Frederick R. Leighton

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Frederick R. Leighton, 48, of 457 S. Second St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at his home.

Born March 4, 1950, in Three Springs, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Helena A. Watkin Leighton.

He was a graduate of Southern Huntingdon High School, Pogue, Pa.

He retired in 1997 from D.L.A. at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. He worked as a civilian government employee in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 600, Chambersburg, where he was the esteemed loyal knight and secretary of the board of directors at the time of his death. He also had served as chaplain.

He was a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.

He is survived by six sisters, Lois F. Younkins of Poplar Branch, N.C., H. Maxine Nearhood of Three Springs, Beulah D. Harries of New Cumberland, Pa., Phyllis L. Campbell of Saltillo, Pa., Eleanor E. Cutshall of Rockhill Furnace, Pa., and Vivian A. Carbaugh of Chambersburg; and a brother, Denver D. Leighton of St. Thomas, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Zella M. Madden; and a brother, Joseph M. Leighton.

Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Elmer T. Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, with military services by members of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Members of BPO Elks 600 will conduct a service Sunday at 8 p.m.

Flora B. Sheets

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Flora B. "Sally" Sheets, 87, of Caledonia Manor, and formerly of Lancaster, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Caledonia Manor.

Born Nov. 6, 1911, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Iva Marie Shane Sheets.

She worked at Armstrong Cork and Closure Plant in Lancaster and retired from Federal-Mogul in Lancaster in 1973.

She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 767 of Lancaster and a member of Graduate Regent.

She is survived by two brothers, John C. Crider Jr. of Fayetteville and Frank N. Crider of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg, Pa.; a sister, Pearl V. Fry of Carlisle, Pa.; 10 nephews; three nieces; great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Linda B. Harter will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caledonia Manor, 3301 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA 17222.

June D. Kauffman

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - June D. Kauffman, 64, of 12245 Loop Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died of heart failure Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at her home.

Born June 14, 1934, in South Mountain, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Bessie Wagaman Wagaman.

She attended Quincy High School.

She worked at the former Samuel Dixon State Hospital, now South Mountain Restoration Center, in the Dietary Department, and later in the Laundry Department. She retired in the late 1980s.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Junior Edward Kauffman; two sons, Wayne E. Kauffman and John E. Kauffman, both of South Mountain; two sisters, Helen Hess of Chambersburg, Pa., and Shirley Mohn of Glen Furney, Pa.; two brothers, Edward Wagaman and Wayne Wagaman, both of South Mountain; three grandsons; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Wendy N. Kauffman, in 1994.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Mervil R. Stambaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.

The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

At Mrs. Kauffman's request, there will be no public viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to New Baltimore Church of God, 4947 Spruce Road, Fayetteville, PA 17222.

Naomi H. Shank

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Naomi H. Shank, 92, a resident of Menno-Haven in Chambersburg, and formerly of Marion, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 25, 1906, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hettie Horst Martin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie E. Shank, in 1969.

She had worked as a nurse's aide at Mennonite Old People's Home in Maugansville.

She was a member of Marion Mennonite Church in Marion, where she served for 26 years as a deacon's wife and was active in the church's sewing circle.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Ruth E. Diller of Greencastle, Pa.; three stepsons, Glenn H. Shank of Chambersburg, Marlin W. Shank of Marion and Raymond W. Shank of Harrisonburg, Va.; 28 stepgrandchildren; 63 stepgreat-grandchildren; and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three stepsons, Paul Shank, John Shank and Charles Shank; and nine sisters and brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg. Bishop Merle Cordell, Bishop Mahlon Eshleman and Chaplain Vernon Isner will officiate. Burial will be in the church Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Menno-Haven, Chambersburg. Chaplain Samuel Troyer will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle; and Saturday one hour before the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Menno-Haven Benevolent Fund, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

E. Bernice Gamble

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - E. Bernice Gamble, 98, of Menno Haven, and formerly of 642 Lincoln Way East, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Menno Haven.

Born Oct. 8, 1900, in Dry Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Sharpe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Gamble Sr., in 1981.

She had worked for Western Union as a telegrapher for more than 30 years.

She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg.

She was a past matron of Martha Custis Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Chambersburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Madeline of Hubbard, Ohio; a son, Paul M. Gamble Jr. of Audubon, Pa.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Private burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
