McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Florence Elizabeth Buterbaugh, 86, of the extended care unit of the Fulton County Medical Center, and formerly of McConnellsburg, where she lived with her daughter, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Fulton County Medical Center.
Born Nov. 21, 1912, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie Carbaugh Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Buterbaugh, in 1989.
She had been a cleaning lady.
She was a member of Cito United Methodist Church.
She was a member of VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Wible of McConnellsburg; four sons, Robert I. Buterbaugh of St. Thomas, Pa., Ronald B. Buterbaugh and Paul S. Buterbaugh, both of McConnellsburg, and Roger L. Buterbaugh of Fort Louden, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Buterbaugh; and a brother, James Mills.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. The Rev. Christian Elliot will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 2 p.m.
Marvin R. Kirby
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Marvin Ray Kirby, 57, of 11860 Ivanhoe Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Oct. 31, 1941, in Goldsboro, N.C., he was the son of the late John L. and Rebecca Jane Goff Kirby.
He was a 1962 graduate of Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Philadelphia.
He had been employed as a surface grinder at Teledyne Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro for 20 years. He was employed at AMP Inc. in the shipping department.
He was a member of Greater Harrisburg Association of the Deaf (GHAD). He bowled in national tournaments.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Baylor Kirby, whom he married
Aug. 1, 1970; a daughter, Martha K. Blattenberger of Waynesboro; three sisters, Darlene Harrison of San Marcos, Texas, Janie Foskey of Dagsboro, Del., and Patricia Murray of Millsboro, Del.; a brother, Lloyd J. Kirby of Georgetown, Del.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ernestine Vickers.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilbur F. Besecker will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, 100 W. Schoolhouse Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19144.
James W. Houpt Sr.
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - James W. Houpt Sr., 83, of 332 Nova Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born April 7, 1915, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles David and Cora E. Straley Houpt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Provard Houpt, on March 22, 1997. They were married
April 10, 1935.
He attended Mercersburg High School.
He had been employed in the maintenance department of West Penn Power Co.; as a clerk at Letterkenny Army Depot; and was custodian at Greencastle Post Office. Upon retirement, he worked at Minnich Miller Funeral Home. He owned and operated The Flower Nook Greenhouse on Linden Avenue, Greencastle.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Upper West Conococheague of Mercersburg; and attended Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle.
He was a member of Harry D. Zeigler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6319, Greencastle; was manager and president of Greencastle Little League; was president of Greencastle Baseball Team, and bowled in leagues in Franklin County. He was a member of Enterprise Fire Department, Hagerstown; and Mercersburg Fire Department.
He attended meetings at Total Life Center of Waynesboro Hospital.
He is survived by five daughters, Amy M. Rice, Gaye A. Buchanan, Pam S. Clay and Nancy L. Van Deuren, all of Greencastle, and Betty L. Anderson of Smyrna Beach, Fla.; five sons, James W. Houpt Jr. of Port Orange, Fla., C. David Houpt of Seeheim, Germany, Robert R. Houpt of Falling Waters, W.Va., Jerry E. Houpt and Tom L. Houpt, both of Greencastle; a brother, Harry W. Houpt of Shippensburg, Pa.; a special friend, Grace Cunningham of Chambersburg, Pa.; 39 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Houpt, Edmonston Houpt and Lloyd Houpt; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Presbyterian Church of Upper West Conococheague, 34 W. Seminary St., Mercersburg. The Revs. Michael K. Miller and Glen A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle; and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Marie C. Ackerson
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Marie C. Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Palmerton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Warren and Lillian Silfies Creitz.
She had been employed as a broker's assistant with Merrill Lynch Fenner and Bean, Winston Salem, N.C. She was a teacher's assistant in Wilmington, Del., and then was employed as an assistant finance officer for the Dupont Special School District. She later was employed by the Colonial School District as a building secretary at McCollough Elementary School. She retired in 1991.
She had been affiliated with St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wilmington; and maintained membership at First United Church of Christ in Palmerton.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas C. Ackerson, whom she married
Jan. 6, 1952; a daughter, Dea Marie Pittman of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Deloris Nemecek of Boxford, Mass., and Barbara Ritz of Bath, Pa.; a brother, Colin Creitz of Allentown, Pa.; three granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Creitz and Neil Creitz.
A private service will be held Tuesday in Palmerton. The Revs. Floyd Ritz and Jody Neifert will officiate. Burial will be in Tomensing Cemetery, Palmerton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201; or American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. Charles W. Zimmerman in 1964; and by her second husband, the Rev. Clifford F. Peterson in 1977.
She was a graduate of Erasmus Hall in New York City; and Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing.
She and her sister, Mary G. Hall Ebersole, owned and operated The Pines Convalescent Hospital in Stoufferstown, Pa.
She was a charter member of Chambersburg Bible Church.
She was a former member of Business and Professional Women's Association, Chambersburg; a former member of Soroptimist Club, Chambersburg and Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce.
She was a direct descendent of Abraham Stouffer who founded Stoufferstown.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Z. Babcock of Laurel Fork, Va., and Patricia Z. Stumbaugh of Chambersburg; two stepsons, Clifford Peterson of Pine, Ariz., and Dwight Peterson of Wheaton, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a stepson.
Services will be Friday, March 26, at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John R. Springer will officiate. Burial will be in Stoufferstown Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Friday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
