MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Virginia B. "Jane" Forbes, 89, of 24 Oregon St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Oct. 1, 1909, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Mabel Secrest Bosserman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel O. Forbes Sr., in 1967.
She was a 1928 graduate of Mercersburg High School. She graduated in 1931 from Union Memorial Hospital Training School of Baltimore.
She worked as a private duty nurse in homes in the Mercersburg area; and was employed at local hospitals.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg.
She is survived by a son, Daniel O. Forbes Jr. of Mercersburg; two nieces, Mary Katherine Kauffman of Chambersburg and Priscilla Forbes of Los Angeles; and a nephew, William Forbes of Tafton, Pa.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Michael K. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg, 34 W. Seminary St., Mercersburg, PA 17236; or Fendrick Library, 20 N. Main St., Mercersburg, PA 17236.

Sarah P. Sellers
STATE LINE, Pa. - Sarah P. Sellers, 89, of 204 Walnut St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the home of her grandson and his wife, Mike and Georgia Barkdoll, at 165 Prospect Ave., State Line.
Born Jan. 6, 1910, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Edward and Vera Frances Hege Shaffer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Sellers Jr., in 1957.
She was a homemaker; and was a cook for Greencastle-Antrim School District at South Antrim Elementary School.
She was the oldest living member of Paramount Brethren in Christ Church of Hagerstown.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara E. Barkdoll of State Line; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, George W. Sellers III in 1989; a sister, Mary Jane Shindle; and a brother, William Edward Shaffer Jr.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Paramount Brethren in Christ Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. James R. Stauffer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
There will be no public viewing; but, the family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the services at the church.

Dorothy M. Cowdrick
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dorothy McCuean Cowdrick, 89, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Chambersburg.
She was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Newburg, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cowdrick, in 1994. They were married
in 1934.
She was a 1930 graduate of Florida Sanitarium and Hospital in Orlando, Fla., as a registered nurse.
She was an anesthetist and instructor in general nursing.
Before her marriage, she traveled as a missionary nurse in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia and Tennessee.
She and her husband owned and operated Twinbrook Orchards in Smithsburg. She later was a home care special duty nurse; and an emergency room and operating room nurse at Waynesboro Hospital. She retired in 1962.
She was a charter member of Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist Church, and served in service and administrative positions.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Noll of Midland, Mich.; a son, James Robert Cowdrick of Waynesboro, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Waynesboro Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg; and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.
Harry R. Short
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harry R. Short, 45, of 927 Cider Press Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg.
Born Jan. 30, 1954, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Harry M. and Margaret A. Kane Short of Fayetteville, Pa.
He was a 1972 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.
He was head mechanic for the Transportation Department of Chambersburg Area School District.
He attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842; a social member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Marine Corps League, Sons of AMVETS, Hume, McNeal, Byers Post 224; and a member of ABATE and AIM.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tina C. Starr Short, whom he married
July 5, 1986; four daughters, Kelly S. Short of Shippensburg, Pa., Breann L. Short, Halesha R. Short and Ashlyn T. Short, all at home; one son, Trevor L. Short of Chambersburg; two sisters, Susan Lensbower of Chambersburg, and Lucinda Lowman of Waynesboro, Pa.; and two brothers, Kenneth R. Short of Chambersburg, and Robert A. Short of Fayetteville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vickie Short.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Neal O. Hively will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
Margaret J. Heefner

She was a 1945 graduate of Mercersburg High School.
She was employed by United Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator at the Mercersburg exchange. She also was employed by Jack McLaughlin's Drug Store in Mercersburg; and was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mercersburg.
She was an auxiliary member of VFW Post 6241 and American Legion Post 517 of Mercersburg.
She is survived by her husband, Keat P. Heefner Sr.; two daughters, Jill P. Gerhart of Mercersburg and Jan P. Heefner of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Keat P. "Kip" Heefner Jr. of Hagerstown; one brother, Paul Mackey of National City, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 8 Linden Ave., Mercersburg, PA 17236.
