William L. Shatzer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William L. "Bill" Shatzer, 68, of 3791 Warm Spring Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at his home.

Born Aug. 15, 1930, in Edenville, Pa., he was the son of the late Grover C. and Ruth E. Byers Shatzer.

He was a 1948 graduate of St. Thomas High School, St. Thomas, Pa.

He was a driver for United Parcel Service in Chambersburg for 17 years, retiring in 1986. He previously was employed as a carpenter for James R. Kegerreis Contractor in Greencastle, Pa.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Edenville United Methodist Church, Edenville.

He played baseball in Edenville; and later played with the local 50 and Over Softball League.

He was a member of Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club; and American Legion Post 517, Mercersburg, Pa.

He is survived by a daughter, Tami J. Shatzer of St. Thomas, Pa.; a son, Jody A. Shatzer of Chambersburg; a sister, Bernice Kauffman of Chambersburg; a brother, Robert Shatzer of Edenville; his companion of 28 years, Bessie M. Clutter; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Elmer T. Kipe and the Rev. John F. Rauhut will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nevin L. Murray

SHADY GROVE, Pa. - Nevin L. Murray, 79, of 2027 Buchanan Trial East, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at his home.

Born Jan. 28, 1920, in Antrim Township, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Nellie Haugh Murray.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, after 30 years.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Asian, Pacific and Aleutian Islands Campaigns.

He was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, was an usher and taught a preschool Sunday school class.

He was a member of Mercersburg Sportsman Association.

He is survived by his wife, Louella M. Carey Murray, whom he married Nov. 7, 1948; six daughters, Nancy Bumbaugh of Mont Alto, Pa., Lana Jones and Pam Stockslager, both of Greencastle, Debra Everts of Hagerstown, Pat Mendez of Fort Loudon, Pa., and Nina Horst of Chambersburg; a son, Dale Murray of St. Thomas, Pa.; five sisters, D. Jean Musselman and Shirley Frain, both of Greencastle, Betty Long and Doris Lesher, both of Chambersburg, and Nellie Bingaman of State Line, Pa.; two brothers, Omar Murray of Chadwick, Ill., and Wayne Murray of Chambersburg; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. Pastor Prudence Yelinek will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jeffrey W. Stahley

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jeffrey Wayne Stahley, 30, of 157 Maple Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 22, 1968, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of A. Maxine Snowberger Stahley of Waynesboro and Wayne Theodore Stahley of Hagerstown.

He was a 1987 graduate of Waynesboro Area High School. He graduated from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., in 1991 with a bachelor of science degree in Park Administration. In 1992, he graduated from the Police Academy at Harrisburg (Pa.) Area Community College.

He was employed as a police officer with Municipal Borough of Greencastle since August 1992.

He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.

He was a social member of Harry D. Ziegler VFW Post 6319; and a member of Rescue Hose Fire Company, both of Greencastle; Franklin County Drug Task Force; and Fraternal Order of Police.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Julie M. McBride Stahley, whom he married Oct. 8, 1994; a daughter, Morgan Elizabeth Stahley at home; a sister, Suzi J. Delarnoux of Waynesboro; a brother, Matthew James Stahley of Waynesboro; aunts; uncles and cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, 801 Park St., Waynesboro. Pastor Michael V. Newman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Florence E. Barnes

WILLIAMSON, Pa. - Florence E. "Evelyn" Barnes, 91, of Manor Care Health Services, and formerly of 5493 Franklin Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 13, 1907, in Tyrone, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and May Chestnut Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Parker A.W. Barnes, in 1989.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Williamson.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy I. Cullison of Clay Hill, Pa.; three sons, Robert L. Barnes of Williamson, Richard E. Barnes of Chambersburg and Barry E. Barnes of Greencastle, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Alan Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sophia Orth

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Sophia Zakrzewski Orth, 84, of Warfordsburg, and formerly of Baltimore, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Orth, whom she married July 23, 1939.

She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Ann Zakrzewski.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Hancock, and formerly of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Baltimore.

She is survived by two daughters, Eileen Orth and Susan Miller, both of Warfordsburg; one son, J. Louis Orth of Baltimore; two sisters, Constance Martin of Hampstead, N.C., and Rita Davis of Glen Burnie, Md.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Marion Zeller, Stanley Zakrzewski, Laura Majeski, Julia Balcerak, Frances Janocha, Gene Kalb, Helen Jachimski, and Frank Zakrzewski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Baltimore. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Baltimore.

Friends will be received at John C. Miller Funeral Home, 6415 Belair Road, Baltimore, today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
