NEEDMORE, Pa. - Margaret Ann Eader, 102, of Needmore, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Feb. 2, 1896, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel Theodore and Rose Anna Souders Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Elwood Eader, in 1966.
She attended Hancock Elementary School.
She worked as a midwife and caregiver to the elderly. She sold fresh eggs and homemade dairy products at her home from 1912 until her retirement in 1989.
She was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church, Fulton County, Pa.
She is survived by two daughters, Clara E. Fogal of Waterfall, Pa., and Gladys D. Baer of Chambersburg, Pa.; a son, John H. Eader Sr. of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; 33 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great-grandchildren; six great-great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Mary A. Stevens, Thelma I. Mellott and Susan A. Hinkle; a son, Jacob R. Eader; seven sisters, Nettie Mills, Flora Clark, Mary Apple, Bessie Divelbliss, Cora Mills, Edna Divel and Lucy Mann; three brothers, Benjamin Mills, Harry Mills and Willard Mills; and two infant siblings.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Rodney Truax and the Rev. Russell Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fulton County.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 9 a.m.
Grace B. Hale
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Grace B. Born Nov. 11, 1913, in Starke, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Silco L. and Hariette Lowery Alvarez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Hale Sr.
She was a school bus driver for the Broward County School System in Florida.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fort Lauderdale.
She is survived by a son, Joseph E. Hale of Fayetteville, Pa.; two brothers, Leon Alvarez of Starke, Fla., and Silco Alvarez of Inverness, Fla.; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Tillman Alvarez.
Services and burial will be in Fort Lauderdale.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, SW 31st Avenue at SW 11th Court, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312.
Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
Seth F. Secrest
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Seth F. Born Feb. 22, 1910, in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Marvin and Virginia Angle Secrest.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula B. Cook Secrest, in 1988.
He was a carpenter.
He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Chambersburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Martha Graham of Fayetteville and Nancy Deardorff of Orrtanna, Pa.; two sons, Robert Secrest and Richard Secrest, both of Chambersburg; two sisters, Leona Halderman of Greencastle, Pa., and Esther Auchenbaugh of Plant City, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Kenneth L. Gibble will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Reno J. Amerine
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Elder Reno "Fred" J. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
Born May 11, 1925, in Cheyenne, Wyo., he was the son of the late Frederick D. and Paralee L. Wright Amerine.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores L. Nalley Amerine, in 1987.
He was a 1930 graduate of Austin High School, Knoxville, Tenn. He received a bachelor of arts degree in engineering from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Va.; and an associate degree in chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; he was captured in the Philippines and was a prisoner of war for seven months.
He received a theological degree from Charles Harrison Mason Bible College, Washington, D.C. in 1965.
He helped to organize the first Fairfax Community Action Program in Falls Church, Va., gaining equal housing rights in Fairfax County.
He and his first wife, Delores, gained ground for and built a building for a new church in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was the first minority male to broadcast on the radio in Chambersburg, hosting "Freddie Reno's Spiritual Hour" on WCBG radio for 16 years.
He was the first male minority to drive a truck for T. M. Zimmerman Trucking Co., and the first male minority to complete training at Letterkenny Army Depot, both of Chambersburg. He was the first male minority to work as a prison guard at Franklin County Prison, which he had helped to build.
He later became an associate chaplain and organized Chambersburg Area Black Ministerium in 1974. While associate pastor of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, he was ordained a pastor and full elder of Amos Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, Mummasburg, Pa., in 1975. He served nine years before resigning to continue his work as an evangelist. He became a full-time evangelist in 1987.
He was active with the United Churches of Chambersburg; Chambersburg Area Ministerium; NAACP; Disabled American Veterans; AARP; and the staff of Ministries at Chambersburg Hospital.
He affiliated his membership with the Millennium Church of God in Christ of Steelton, Pa. He was chosen as the Adoptive Father in the Gospel by the Rev. Lowell A. Williams, pastor of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Amerine; and a sister, Margaret Crowder.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Jackson Amerine, whom he married
April 19, 1988; four daughters, Marjorie Moore, Wanda Amerine and Marlene Amerine, all of Detroit, and Delores Amerine of Dallas, Texas; five sons, Frederick Amerine and Craige Amerine, both of Detroit, Reno Hall of Knoxville, Tenn., Bernard Amerine and Anthony Amerine, both of Dallas; four stepsons, Vincin Millliner of Harrisburg, William G. Milliner of Chambersburg, Keith Jackson of Clarksville, Tenn. and Robin K. Jackson of Covington, Va.; two stepdaughters, Darlene Milliner of Baltimore and Lisa Jackson of Fort Cambell, Kent.; a sister, Barbara J. Clark of Detroit; a cousin, Richard Wright of Philadelphia; an uncle; an aunt; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, 155 W. Catherine St., Chambersburg. Elder Truman Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring, Chambersburg; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bradley R. Turner
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Bradley R. Born March 7, 1972, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Homer R. Turner III and Sharon F. Swope Turner of Chambersburg.
He was a 1991 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, and lettered on the rifle team.
He worked night shift in the maintenance department of Knouse Foods in Chambersburg.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Patriot operator system mechanic in the Persian Gulf area.
He formerly attended St. James United Brethren Church in Chambersburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his companion, Kristi Shaffer of Chambersburg; an infant daughter, Kirra M. Turner of Chambersburg; one sister, Nicole M. Turner of Chambersburg; paternal grandparents, Homer Jr. and Jennine Tolbert Turner of Fayetteville, Pa.; maternal grandparents, William and Pauline Seilhamer Swope of Shippensburg, Pa.; and maternal great-grandmother, Helen Dice of Menno Haven.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. David W. Kraft will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing; however visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Kirra Turner Memorial Trust, c/o Financial Trust, P.O. Box C, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
