CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Laura S. Miller Bender, 92, of 6850 Grindstone Hill Road, and formerly of 6709 Grindstone Hill Road, Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at her home.
Born Nov. 19, 1905, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Mary Jane Creager Miller.
Her husband, William E. Bender, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1987. They were married
March 24, 1923.
She was employed as a seamstress by Stanley Co. in Chambersburg from 1934 to 1944, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Grindstone Hill in Chambersburg.
She also was a member of National AARP, Falling Spring Chapter of AARP in Chambersburg, and Ladies Auxiliary to AMVETS Post 224 in Chambersburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Esther L. Schultz and Anna L. French, both of Chambersburg; three sons, Russell A. Bender, Robert W. Bender and Owen E. Bender, all of Chambersburg; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lelia Stoner and Ruth Miller; and three brothers, Roy Miller, Joe Miller and Harry Miller.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. Michael E. Allwein will officiate. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Grindstone Hill Building Fund, 4856 Wayne Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Joseph A. Sallurday Sr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Joseph A. Sallurday Sr., 74, of 1850 Edgar Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at his home.
Born July 20, 1924, in Hawk Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Alphonse and Sarah Vallelli Sallurday.
His wife, Winifred Lockley Sallurday, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1973. They were married
June 6, 1945.
He was a 1942 graduate of Central High School in Scranton, Pa.
In 1970, he moved from Scranton to Chambersburg, where he was employed by Logistics Support Systems Analyst at Letterkenny Army Depot, and where he retired in 1979. He also was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna, Pa. After retiring from the U.S. government, and prior to his illness, he worked in quality assurance with Computer Science Corp. in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Rhinelands, Ardennes and Central Europe with Company C 315th Engineering Battalion 90th Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars and Victory Medal.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg.
He was a fourth-degree knight, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1426, Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Tarquino-Washington Catholic War Veterans Post 1930, Hume-McNeil-Byers AMVETS Post 224, all in Chambersburg; American Ukranian Veterans Association of Lackawana County, Pa., Seventy-Eighth Division Veterans Association, and Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by one daughter, Sharon A. Sallurday of Chambersburg; one son, Joseph Sallurday Jr. of Fayetteville, Pa.; one brother, Edwin Sallurday of Scranton; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; an aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by twin brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, with the Rev. Ramon Rivera and the Rev. Daniel F. Lawler as celebrants. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
A viewing will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to Knights of Columbus Council 1426, 336 E. Garfield St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Lena Cosenza
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lena Cosenza, 69, of 3558 Turnberry Drive, and formerly of Weirton, W.Va., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 22, 1928, in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Gallo.
She was a 1946 graduate of Weir High School in Weirton.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony G. Cosenza Sr., whom she married
March 2, 1957; two sons, Anthony G. Cosenza Jr. of Chambersburg, and Rick Cosenza of Columbia, Md.; four sisters, Mary Tarowsky, Ann Carey, Rose Henry and Josephine Yarosz, all of Weirton; two brothers, John Gallo of Wintersville, Ohio, and Tony Gallo of Weirton; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Rocky Gallo.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematory, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa.
John E. Starken

He was employed as a mover for 33 years.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Kirby Starken, whom he married
Nov. 24, 1981; three daughters, Sharon Pilgrim and Kathy Hayes, both of New Jersey, and Barbara Blair of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin Starken.
A Christian wake service will be held today at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Daniel F. Lawler will officiate. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
John W. McCauley Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dr. John W. He was a self-employed dentist in Chambersburg from 1950 until retiring in 1989.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Chambersburg.
He was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW in Chambersburg and American Legion in Huntingdon; and a member of Chambersburg Country Club in Chambersburg.
He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy J. McCauley of Chambersburg; one son, Andrew S. McCauley of Mercersburg; one granddaughter, Megan M. McCauley of Chambersburg; and one grandson, Joshuaah C. McKelvey of Mercersburg.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stephen W. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m.
