CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Joseph A. Allen, 63, of 48 W. Catherine St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, N.Y.
Born Oct. 25, 1934, in Grenada, West Indies, he was the son of the late Manny and Venitta Barry Allen.
He was employed in maintenance at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, retiring Aug. 25 after 17 years.
He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Chambersburg, and was a deacon.
He was assistant chairman and treasurer for Deacon Alliance of Pennsylvania, Rural Opportunities Inc. board of directors executive committee for 15 years, chairman of Pennsylvania Rural Opportunities Housing Counsel for 10 years, chairman of the Pennsylvania Statewide Advisory Counsel, and was on the Franklin County Program Advisory Counsel. He was inducted into the Rural Opportunities Inc. National Hall of Fame in Rochester in 1996.
He was president of the Franklin County Multi-Culture Alliance, and was a member and on the board of Lebanon Cemetery Association. He was active in the Black Employment Program at Letterkenny Army Depot.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha M. Tomlin Allen, whom he married
Feb. 17, 1964; one daughter, Cecilia N. Allen of Chambersburg; one son, Greg Allen of Chambersburg; two brothers, his twin, Ashley Allen, of England, and Wattie Allen of Trinidad, West Indies; a granddaughter, three aunts, two uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eslyn Allen.
Services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. G. Nathan Bell will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Ethel M. Moore
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ethel M. Moore, 82, of 25 N. Potomac St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Manorcare Health Services in Chambersburg.
Born April 21, 1916, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Ralph W. Sr. and Minnie M. King Moore.
She was a 1935 graduate of Waynesboro High School, and attended Waynesboro Business College.
She worked at Sherman's Ladies Clothing Store and Frick Co., both in Waynesboro, and Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown.
She worked for an accounting firm as a statistical typist, with the U.S. Defense Department in the Pentagon as a budget analyst with the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Waynesboro.
Private graveside services were held Monday at Green Hill Cemetery. Pastor James T. Williams officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
Arrangements were by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
Lester L. Shafer
WATERFALL, Pa. - Lester Lemont Shafer, 82, of Waterfall, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at the Extended Care Unit of Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born Nov. 17, 1915, in Robertsdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles G. and Bernice Bolinger Shafer.
He was a 1933 graduate of Hustontown High School.
He was a member of New Grenada Church of God.
He operated Shafer's Garage in Waterfall, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the board of directors of Community State Bank in Orbisonia, Pa., from 1976 to 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Newman Shafer, whom he married
April 16, 1943; three sons, Randy Shafer of Biglerville, Pa., Greg Shafer of Waterfall, and Kevin Shafer of Needmore, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Isabelle Shafer; and an infant grandson.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home in Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. Kenneth Cornelius will officiate. Private burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in New Grenada, Pa.
There will be no public viewing; however visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Extended Care Unit (second floor), Fulton County Medical Center, 216 S. First St., McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
Russell L. Boyer
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Russell L. Boyer, 90, of 607 W. Third St., and formerly of Mont Alto, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 25, 1908, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Saylor and Grace Rowe Boyer.
He attended Waynesboro area schools.
He worked for Landis Machine Co., then Glen L. Martin Co. of Baltimore, and later Landis Tool Co., retiring in 1972 after 34 years.
He was affiliated with Grace Brethren Church.
He was a member of Eagles Club Inc. of Waynesboro; National AARP; and Local South Chapter AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Boyer; a daughter, Joyce E. Holtzshulte of Methen, Mass.; two sons, Bud Boyer of Concord, Ohio, and Russell L. Boyer Jr. of Westlake, Ohio; a brother, Dan Boyer of Hinton, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Graveside services will be Thursday, at Prices Church Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Roger Myers will officiate.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; or Summit Care Health Hospice, 176 S. Coldbrook Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Chelsea Golden
WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Chelsea Golden, infant daughter of Charles R. and Michelle R. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Alexis Knisely, at home; maternal grandparents, Bernard and Lilli Smith of Fisherstown, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Barbara Golden of Warfordsburg; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Frick of Bedford, Pa.; paternal great-grandparents, Quentin and Ada Golden of Warfordsburg; and paternal great-grandmother, Mary Munson of Hancock.
A graveside service will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery. The Rev. Edward James will officiate.

Helen F. Wolfinger

Born Dec. 20, 1910, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lewis E. and Anna Z. Freet Danfelt.
She was a 1928 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She graduated in 1932 from Shippensburg State Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree in English and History.
She taught English and history as a substitute teacher for the Washington County School District for 20 years. She retired in the early 1960's.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association; Waynesboro Lioness Club; and National AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Walter Lee Wolfinger; two daughters, Susan A. Diller of San Pedro, Calif., and Nancy J. Miller of Fort Loudon, Pa.; a brother, Dr. Lewis S. Danfelt of Kirksville, Mo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. E. Douglas Danfelt.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro. Pastor James T. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public viewing.
The omission of flowers is requested.
