WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Services for Mary S. Shockey Wingert, of The Brethren Home in New Oxford, Pa., and formerly of West North Street, who Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. There will be no viewing.
Julian A. Caldwell
INWOOD, W.Va. - Julian A. Caldwell, 86, of Inwood, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was the son of the late Clifford N. and Florence A. Barnhart Caldwell.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He retired after 29 years of service at Interwoven Mill.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, with two Bronze service stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He received an honorable discharge.
He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose 120, Martinsburg. He was a champion horseshoe pitcher and belonged to the National Horseshoe Pitching Association; and he also was a member of the National Bowling Association.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda M. Kesecker Caldwell; four daughters, Helen M. Barney of Hedgesville, W.Va., JoAnn Cole and Cynthia L. Wilson of Martinsburg and Tamara Burke of Inwood; two sons, Julian A. Caldwell II of Martinsburg and David S. Caldwell of Falling Waters, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; two nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jesse Reiter; and two brothers, Gilbert Caldwell and Nelson Caldwell.
He donated his body to Gift of Life, Morgantown, W.Va.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Martinsburg Baptist Temple. Pastor John Frattarola will officiate.
Memorial donations may be made to Martinsburg Baptist Temple, 601 N. High St., Martinsburg, WV 25401; or to a charity of choice.
Ruth M. Finley
OCALA, Fla. - Ruth M. Finley, 83, of Palm Gardens Nursing Home, and formerly of Burnt Cabins, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born June 15, 1915, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Mae Davis Heckman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Finley, in 1972.
She was employed in food preparation by Howard Johnson Restaurants.
She was a member of Burnt Cabins Independent Bible Church.
She was a member of American Legion in Whippany, N.J.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Whitehouse of Ocala and Charlotte Costa of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Robert Finley of Ireland; two sisters, Dorothy Evans of Hunlocks Creek, Pa., and Marjorie Shaffler of New Jersey; one brother, Harry Heckman of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Ann Monn; one sister, Florence Grabowski; and two brothers, Robert Heckman and Charles Heckman.
The family will receive friends at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Inc., 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, Pa., Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A short funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Bob Benson officiating.
Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.
The funeral home will be open Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.
Albert A. Deshong
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Albert A. "Oats" Deshong, 78, of 12222 Buchanan Trail West, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born June 26, 1920, in Shimpstown, Pa., he was the son of the late W. Emory and Nellie Garland Deshong.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Spidle Hawbaker Deshong, in 1989.
He was employed as a truck driver by the former E.S. Wolfkill Block Co. of Shady Grove, Pa.; the former Fry Coal and Stone Co. of Mercersburg; and Hammaker East Limited Paving of Chambersburg.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army. He served with Headquarters Co., 3rd Battalion, 164th Infantry in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He earned four Bronze service stars and made long hauls carrying ammunition, personnel and supplies on the Red Ball Express from the Normandy beachheads to the front lines.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mercersburg.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Wanda J. Wood of Fort Loudon, Pa., and Karen L. Mellott of Chambersburg; three stepsons, Jack H. Hawbaker, Joe E. Hawbaker and Karl E. Hawbaker, all of Mercersburg; one sister, Helen Jones of Chambersburg; one brother, Norman Guy Deshong of Orlando, Fla.; two half-sisters, Ann Hays of Fort Loudon and Donna Spidle of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Gloria Showaker of Shippensburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, one stepson and one grandchild.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael R. Brendle will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Visitation will be at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8 Linden Ave., Mercersburg, PA 17236.
Laura M. Tarner Horn

She was employed as a seamstress for the former U-Wanna-Wash Frock Co. of Fort Loudon, Pa., for many years.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Lana T. Dade of Chambersburg; one brother, Clair E. Brant of Greencastle, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son.
A private graveside service will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce M. Warren of Chambersburg; two sons, James K. Mull Jr. of Glenville, Pa., and Wayne H. Mull of Millersburg, Pa.; one sister, Doris Henschel of Chambersburg; one brother, Ronald Ramsdell of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Kenneth L. Gibble will officiate. Burial will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
