C. Edgar Secrist

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - C. Edgar "Ed" Secrist, 79, of 194 Cameo Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 16, 1919, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late C. Walter and Della V. Myers Secrist. He lived his early life in the Mercersburg, Pa., area.

He was a 1938 graduate of Mercersburg High School.

He owned and operated the family farm in Mercersburg from 1938 until 1959. Prior to retiring in 1987, he was a construction foreman for Hartzell's Construction Co., Fayetteville. He also had a masters plumber's license.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fayetteville, where he sang in the church choir. He also taught the Men's Bible Class, served on church council, served as church treasurer for one year, Sunday School superintendent for a number of years and served on various committees.

He was a member of Chambersburg Chapter 2287 AARP; National AARP; Golden Age Club, Chambersburg; and Pennsylvania Farmers Association.

He is survived by his wife, A. Mae Mellott Secrist, whom he married on May 2, 1942; one daughter Ginger S. Myers of Manchester, Md.; two sons, Richard H. Secrist of Chambersburg and C. Robert Secrist of Winchester, Ky.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, E. Glendora Secrist.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville. The Rev. David L. Hefner will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the church parlor Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Franklin B. Izer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin B. Izer, 85, of 2075 Scotland Ave., and formerly of Gehr Road, Waynesboro, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Menno-Haven.

Born Oct. 23, 1913, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Bertha Bumgardner Izer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence L. Swope Izer, in 1996.

He was owner and operator of Izer Excavating for 25 years in Waynesboro. He also was employed in maintenance by the Waynesboro Armory.

He is survived by six daughters, Shirley Caufman of Fayetteville, Pa., Nancy Krietz of Pen Mar, Pat McCardell and Linda Ulrich, both of Mont Alto, Pa., Darlene Honeycutt of Walstonburg, N.C., and Sandra Brown of Fairfield, Pa.; four sons, Robert L. Izer, Larry E. Izer and Howard L. Izer, all of Waynesboro, and Donald M. Izer of Mont Alto; one sister, Maybelle McClannan of Waynesboro; four brothers, Harry Izer of Waynesboro, Richard Izer of Zullinger, Pa., Clifford Izer of Hagerstown and Kenny Izer of Selinsgrove, Pa.; 27 grandchildren, including Lori L. Izer, whom he raised; one stepgrandson; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Glenn W. Schildt

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Glenn W. Schildt, 71, of 27 W. Seminary Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 21, 1927, near Rouzerville, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary E. Long Schildt.

He attended school in Zullinger, Pa.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the mid-1960s for PennDOT. He later worked for various construction companies in the area. Prior to retirement in 1993, he worked for Richard Kline Construction in Rockville, Md.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.

He was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.

He is survived by his former wife, Dorothy P. Wolford Schildt of Greencastle, Pa.; one daughter, Rhoda E. Utz of Maugansville; three sons, Terry L. Schildt and Jay A. Schildt, both of Mercersburg, and John D. Schildt of Greencastle; four sisters, Josephine Smith and Thelma Shaw, both of Port Orange, Fla., Dolly Barkdoll of Rouzerville and Mae Wade of Cascade; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Hahn; and five brothers, Aaron Schildt, John Schildt, Charles Schildt, Earl Schildt and Paul Schildt.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Roy E. Brake Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

James A. Hess

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - James A. Hess, 76, of 8260 Shank Hess Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at his home.

Born Oct. 19, 1922, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Willis A. and Elizabeth K. Miller Hess.

He was a 1939 graduate of Washington Township High School.

He owned and operated Hess Farm on Shank Hess Road from 1946 to 1984. He then assisted his sons in the operation of the farm and maintained an egg route to restaurants, stores and hospitals.

He was a member of Antietam Congregation Old German Baptist Church at Price's, Washington Township, Pa.. and served as minister and elder.

He is survived by his wife, Lois V. Benshoff Hess, whom he married on Jan. 19, 1945; three daughters, Kathleen M. Metzger and Dorothy J. Layman, both of Waynesboro, and Elizabeth A. Lesher of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sons, William B. Hess and Kenneth B. Hess, both of Waynesboro; one sister, Esther Boyd of Anderson, Ind.; three brothers, David R. Hess of Shady Grove, Pa., Abram J. Hess and Charles F. Hess, both of Waynesboro; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn R. Benedict; and one brother, Daniel M. Hess.

Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. in the family home and at 10 a.m. at Antietam Congregation Old German Baptist Church at Price's near Waynesboro. Ministers Willis Hess, Donald Hess, Ray Garber, George Mason, Jerre Longenecker and Alfred Brubaker will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the family home, 8260 Shank Hess Road, Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Calvin P. Duvall

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Calvin P. Duvall, 53, of 3101 Fort Loudon Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1945, in Robertsdale, Pa., he was the son of Velma Barber Duvall of Robertsdale and the late Alfred Duvall.

He was employed by Corning Glass Works of Greencastle, Pa., for 30 years. He retired in 1996 due to ill health.

He was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Marleen Neuder Duvall, whom he married on April 16, 1946; one daughter, Gloria Stitely of St. Thomas, Pa.; one sister, Helen Shehan of New Castle, Del.; three brothers, Kenneth Duvall of New Castle, Merrill Duvall and Ronald Duvall, both of Robertsdale; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg. The Rev. Kelly Shope will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon.

Visitation will be at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clayton Memorial Church of God, 6701 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg, PA 17236.
