Joseph E. Crouse

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Joseph E. Crouse, 73, of 10778 Lincoln Way West, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born May 16, 1925, in Fort Loudon, he was the son of the late George and Annie Fisher Crouse.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Carbaugh Crouse, in 1965.

He was employed as an automobile mechanic by the former VT Angle & Sons of Chambersburg; former Clyde Fox Motors of Mercersburg, Pa.; Fox Buick of Greencastle, Pa.; and Hicks Chevrolet-Buick-Volvo. He retired in 1990 from Geo of Greencastle.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and Philippine Liberation.

He attended Mount Olivet United Brethren in Christ Church of Chambersburg.

He was a member of AARP.

He is survived by his second wife, Maxine Detrich Malone Crouse, whom he married on April 4, 1970; two sons, Joseph G. Crouse of Greencastle and Jack L. Crouse of Lovettsville, Va.; one stepdaughter, Bonnie St. Clair of Mercersburg; one stepson, Wayne "Sam" Malone of Fort Loudon; two sisters, Jane Gehr of Fort Loudon and Edna Washinger of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two half-sisters.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Ronald K. Strader and the Rev. Stan McCammon will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Military graveside services will be by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Friday.

George A. Keller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. George A. Keller, 74, of 32 Kensington Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore.

Born Sept. 25, 1924, in Collingsworth County, Texas, he was the son of the late George A. Keller Sr. and Felix Gardner Keller.

He was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. He was stationed at various locations, including Fort Bliss, Texas; Korea from 1950-1951; Germany; Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.; and Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. He received 24 awards and decorations, including the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal with V device, Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart with cluster and Joint Services Commendation Medal.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, was a lay worship leader and Sunday school teacher. He attended the U.S. Army Chapel at Letterkenny.

He was a member of George Washington Lodge 143 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He was past president of Letterkenny Chapel Retired Officers Association. He also was a member of Military Order of the Purple Heart, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; BPO Elks 600; and National Defense Executives Reserves.

He was a telephone volunteer with CONTACT Chambersburg and was executive director from 1989-1991.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Keller; one daughter, Diane Brickley of Macungie, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. Charles Kind and Pastor Mark Hege will officiate. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to C.V. Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Parsonage Fund, Salem United Methodist Church, 2115 Salem Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

John S. Miller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John S. "Johnny" Miller, 78, of Shook Home, and formerly of 467 E. Queen St., Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Norman C. and Kathryn Shetter Miller.

He was preceded by his wife, Evelyn L. Miller, in 1994.

He was former owner and operator of the laundromat on West King Street in Chambersburg. He also worked at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro and T.B. Woods in Chambersburg.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He received five battle stars.

He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

He was a life member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion; Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; AMVETS Post 224; and Marine Corps League, all of Chambersburg; member of George Washington Masonic Lodge 143, Chambersburg; and Zempo Temple, Harrisburg Consistory.

He is survived by several cousins.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Jeffrey L. Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles Nitterhouse 1599 VFW.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

M. Elizabeth Schultz

YORK SPRINGS, Pa. - M. Elizabeth Schultz, 83, of 400 Main St., and formerly of Lansdowne, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at The Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa.

Born Sept. 28, 1915, in Fitchburg, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Spahr Keefer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack K. Schultz, in 1980.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lansdowne.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna L. Benham of Orlando, Fla., and Andrea E. Smith of Biglerville, Pa.; one son, Jack G. Schultz of Secane, Pa.; one brother, Paul Keefer of Bedford, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Biglerville. The Rev. Joel Zeiders will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Private burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

Arrangements are by Monahan Funeral Home Inc., Gettysburg.

Betty E. Mauro

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Betty E. Mauro, 88, a resident of Menno Haven, and formerly of 421 W. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mauro.

She was a homemaker.

She was associated with Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Teresa Davis of Harrisburg, Pa., and Rosalee of Chicago; step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Savior Cemetery, York. The Rev. Anthony Miller will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities, c/o Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
