Born April 22, 1931, in Old Fields, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George W. and Vernie Mongold Whittington.

She was employed at Reidbord in Buckhannon, and retired from J. Schoeneman in Chambersburg in 1993.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Copeland of Greencastle; one son, Wayne Saville of Bridgeport, W.Va.; three sisters, Velma Heavner of Moorefield, W.Va., Mable Haywood of Manassas, Va., and Buelah Henry of Wardensville, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Her sister, Rosanna Whittington, preceded her in death.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home in Moorefield. The Rev. Calvin McCutcheon will officiate. Burial will be in Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, East King Street, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Rodney E. Freeman

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Rodney Eugene Freeman, 62, of 7122 Slabtown Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born June 5, 1936, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Gilbert A. and Alice Sanders Freeman Sr.

He was employed by Quincy Township, Pa., in the maintenance department. He retired Dec. 31, 1996, on disability.

He attended Quincy schools.

He was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro; and Waynesboro Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by a sister, Barbara Joan Freeman of Waynesboro; a brother, Richard M. Freeman of Waynesboro; a nephew, Michael Freeman; and a cousin, Barbara Freeman Bingaman.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert A. Freeman Jr.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Ronald Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Second Chance Program of Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Lloyd H. Martin

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lloyd H. Martin, 74, of 238 Cornertown Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 26, 1924, in Maugansville, he was the son of the late Abram and Susie Horst Martin.

He was president of Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe Inc. in Chambersburg. He owned and operated Martin's Restaurant on Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg, for 25 years, until 1987. Earlier, he delivered milk door to door in Hagerstown and worked at the former Wenger's Bakery in Chambersburg.

He and his wife founded Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe, Inc. in 1955. They sold their goods at Farmer's Market in the Harrisburg and Carlisle, Pa., areas.

He was a member of Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church, and was active in Brethren in Christ Outreach at the South Mountain Chapel.

He had played in a harmonica band. He and his wife recorded with Gospel Tide Hour in Chambersburg for 30 years. Known as the Gospel Tones, they also sang at area church services.

He was a member of Chambersburg Mall Walkers Club.

He served on the Development Advisory Board at Menno Haven Inc., Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Wenger Martin, whom he married Sept. 9, 1945; two daughters, Anita R. Riblet of Fredericksburg, Va., and Keren M. Martin of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, James A. Martin of Chambersburg; a sister, Edna Kuhns of Greencastle; and a brother, John H. Martin of Wilmington, Del.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Dolores Martin and Kathleen Martin; a sister, and five brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church, 465 Center St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Kevin Witter, the Rev. David Erisman and the Rev. Maurice Bender will officiate. Burial will be in Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

A viewing will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Gospel Tide Hour, 501 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Brethren in Christ Mission, c/o Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church, 465 Center St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Mabel C. Jones

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mabel C. "Sweetie" Jones, 98, a resident of Shook Home, and formerly of 2294 Letterkenny Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Shook Home.

Born Aug. 25, 1900, she was the daughter of the late Enos and Annie Greenawalt Wenger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl D. Jones, in 1961.

She retired from Thompson's Dress Shop, formerly of Chambersburg. She previously had been employed at the H.J. Heinz Co., formerly of Chambersburg.

She was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church, Scotland, Pa., and the missionary society.

She is survived by two daughters, Erma Smith of Chambersburg and Beatrice Rine of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth E. Jones in 1991; a great-great-granddaughter, Jennifer Culbertson; two sisters; and five brothers.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Charles L. Kind and the Rev. J. Faust Hissong will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The viewing will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ulysses S. Mellott

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Ulysses S. Mellott, 88, of 635 E. Born Aug. 13, 1910, in Licking Creek Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Scott and Sadie Truax Mellott.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Swisher Mellott, in 1987.

He was a truck driver and equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, prior to his retirement.

He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren.

He was a life member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.; a fire policeman; and forest fire warden.

He is survived by a son, Carl E. Mellott Sr. of McConnellsburg; a sister, Ruth Barnhart of Extended Care Unit of the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg; two brothers, William J. Mellott of Knobsville, Pa., and Harold Mellott of Woodland Retirement Home in Orbisonia, Pa.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, which will be open from 2 p.m.

Albert J. Bath

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Albert J. Bath, 99, of Shook Home, and formerly of 580 S. 7th St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at the home.

Born April 22, 1899, in Newport, Ky., he was the son of the late Nicholas and Bertha Glaser Bath.

He started the bookkeeping system for the Ford Motor Co. in Norfolk, Va., and Chester, Pa.; he was employed by Ford for 35 years as a plant controller, assistant manager and manager. He later operated a Ford dealership in Wayne, Pa.; and was a controller for Ray Lewis Ford in Chambersburg. After retirement, he was employed by the Chambersburg Trust Co. as a teller at its 3rd Street branch, until 1980.

A member of Falling Spring Chapter AARP, he was a former member of the Chambersburg Rotary Club.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1926.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Elsa Sulzer Bath; a daughter, Marjorie Dillon of West Chester, Pa.; a son, James Bath of Bowie, Md.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Monsignor Thomas J. Brenner will be celebrant. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday prior to the Mass at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Corpus Christi Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Shook Home, 55 S. 2nd St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
