GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Franklin E. Dawson, 86, of 265 N. Castle St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 27, 1911, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Amos Charles and Daisy Virginia Watts.

He was a graduate of Brunswick High School.

His early employment was with Fairchild Aircraft. He last worked at Doubleday Publishing Co., Smithsburg. He also was a bartender at the former Dodson South Mountain House near Boonsboro.

He was a member of Greencastle Senior Citizen Center. He enjoyed walking.

He is survived by a special friend, Arlene G. Hutto of Greencastle.

He was the last of his immediate family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick, Md.

There will be no viewing.

The omission of flowers is requested. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Charles I. Gunder Jr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Charles I. "Charlie" Gunder Jr., 75, of 8234 Mentzer Gap Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at Piney Mountain Nursing Home, Fayetteville, Pa.

Born July 19, 1923, in Quincy Township, Pa., near his place of residence, he was the son of the late Charles I. Gunder Sr. and Margaret Jane Bender Gunder.

He was a 1941 graduate of Quincy High School.

He was employed by Landis Machine Co. for several years. He then worked at the Waynesboro Post Office as a mail carrier from 1951 to 1984. He retired in 1984. He also was a real estate associate with ERA Penn 1st from 1978 to 1998, and an associate broker and certified appraiser.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, Tomstown, Pa. He served as chairman of the administration board, chairman of the personnel relations commission, served as deacon and was chairman of the nominating committee.

He was a member of Franklin County Board of Realtors; National Board of Realtors; South Chapter AARP 2977, Waynesboro; and National AARP.

He bowled in the Senior Citizen's Bowling League. In his early life, he was coach of the Quincy Little League Baseball Team for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Margie O. Carr Gunder, whom he married on Aug. 15, 1942; two daughters, Beverly Shockey and Carolyn Papoutsis, both of Waynesboro; two sons, Daryl Gunder and Randall Gunder, both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Gladys Reed and Evelyn Minnich, both of Waynesboro; three brothers, Paul Gunder, R. Edwin Gunder and Robert Gunder, all of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, R. Eugene Gunder.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jaye M. Bartle and the Rev. Donald L. Bender will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Blue Rock United Brethren In Christ Church, 7885 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268; or Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

Janet P. Miller

STATE LINE, Pa. - Janet P. Miller, 73, a resident of Morning Glory Retirement Home, and formerly of 145 Addison Ave., Greencastle, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Feb. 15, 1925, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Albert R. and Lillian Carson Pryor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. "Duck" Miller, in 1991.

She was a 1942 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

She was a homemaker. She had worked for First National Bank of Waynesboro and Waynesboro Hospital.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle and Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

She was a member and past president of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 Ladies Auxiliary; Waynesboro AARP Chapter 739; and Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters.

She is survived by one brother, E. Richard Pryor of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Harner; and three brothers, Roland Pryor, Kenneth Pryor and Charles Pryor.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. William DeHass will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Building Fund, Trinity Lutheran Church, 145 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA 17225.

Merle R. Stouffer

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Merle R. Stouffer, 61, of 1301 Preston Lane, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born March 15, 1937, in Guilford Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late John E. and Mabel E. Beeler Stouffer.

He was a 1955 graduate of Greencastle High School. He received his bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1963 from Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pa.

After graduating from high school, he worked a short time for Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, Pa.

He was a school teacher and taught fifth grade at Hooverville Elementary School, Waynesboro, from 1963 to 1983. He then taught sixth grade at Fairview Elementary School in Waynesboro from 1985 to 1991, when he retired. After retiring from teaching, he worked as a security officer at Whitetail Ski Resort near Mercersburg, Pa., and at Mason-Dixon Auto Auction near Greencastle. He last worked as produce manager for Kline's Grocery Store in Shady Grove, Pa., from 1994 until recently.

He also worked part time at the former Chris Miller Orchards of Waynesboro and Knouse Orchards. He served as deputy fish warden with Pennsylvania Fish Commission from 1972 to 1992.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served four years with two years in Japan.

He was a member of Waynesboro Bible Church, where he was serving as secretary of the church board.

He was a member of NRA and Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, E. Faye Kell Stouffer; one daughter, Sheri J. Michalsky of Waynesboro; one son, Mark R. Stouffer of Newville, Pa.; two sisters, June M. Barvinchack of Greencastle and Darlene J. Stouffer of Michaux Manor, Fayetteville, Pa.; two brothers, J. Eugene Stouffer of Waynesboro and Clarence D. Stouffer of Dallas Center, Iowa; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Road, Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert L. Fitz will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.

The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Daniel C. Schooley

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Daniel C. Schooley, 52, of 50 Clayton Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at his home.

Born April 6, 1946, in Harrisonville, Pa., he was the son of Kenneth Schooley Sr. and Ellen Bergsted Schooley of Harrisonville. He lived his early life in Harrisonville.

He was employed as a machinist by Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, Pa., in shop 101 for more than 25 years.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Fulton Overseas Veterans Association Post 655, McConnellsburg, Pa.; American Legion Post 561, McConnellsburg; and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191, Waynesboro.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Camille Katherine Lunny Schooley, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1963; one daughter, Roberta A. Lemar of Carlisle, Pa.; one son, John C. Schooley of Halifax, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Shanna M. Wilkerson of Waynesboro; one stepson, John D. Wilkerson III; five sisters, Darlene Silkowski of Greencastle, Pa., Diane Kelso of Rantoul, Ill., Marjorie Schooley of Harrisonville, Linea Watkins of Chambersburg, Pa., and Frances Johnson of Crystal Springs, Pa.; four brothers, Kenneth Schooley Jr. of Upperstrasburg, Pa., Eugene Schooley of Town Hill, Pa., Eddie Schooley of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Gary Schooley of St. Thomas, Pa.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Schooley Jr.; one sister, Beverly Rhines; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church, Pa. 655, three miles off U.S. 30 near Harrisonville. Pastor Jaye M. Bartle will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
