RAYNER - Donald W. Sr., 85, formerly of Johnstown, passed way Aug. 8, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 11, 1921, in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, son of the late Percival Wilferd and Louisa (Makey) Rayner. Survived by wife, Goldie (Alberter); son, Donald W. Rayner Jr., born in Norwich, England, married
to Darlene (Guizio), Johnstown; daughter, Dianne Garczynski, married
to Albert, Windber; grandchildren, Heather (Rayner) Ditch; Erin (Rayner), married
to John Dubnansky; and Sean Garczynski; and great-grandsons, Collin and Jaxon Ditch and Ethan Dubnansky. He was employed by the Postal Service (UK) as a telegraph messenger boy from 1935 to 1938. Enlisted in the British Royal Navy as a telegraphist (wireless operator) in 1938. Served until 1946 including World War II from 1939 to 1945. Retired as CPO wireless operator. Saw service in the North Atlantic, Sicily Invasion, North Africa and South Atlantic. He was awarded the British "Hurt Certificate" (Purple Heart) for wounds he received on the beach in Sicily on D-Day in 1943. On the same day, he was transported to a British hospital ship 10 miles offshore. Enemy planes sunk the hospital ship after dark. He was picked out of the water by a British destroyer and transferred to another hospital ship and ended up in a Naval hospital in Libya. Don met Goldie (Alberter) after arriving in Baltimore to be part of the crew of LST407, built in the Bethlehem ship yards. Goldie was working for the Social Security Administration there as a keypunch operator. They met on New Year's Eve, 1942, and were married
at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Baltimore, on Jan. 20, 1943. At war's end, Goldie traveled to England as a British war bride and Don was demobbed from the Navy. He was employed by Decca Navigator Corp. in England from 1946 to 1948. They returned the USA in 1948, and settled in Johnstown, Pa. Don went to work for the Bethlehem Steel, Gautier Division, as a janitor in the 36th Universal Plate Mill. He retired in 1977 as general foreman for that mill. As a member of the Bethlehem Management Club, he served on the board at the time of his retirement. He spent the next 5 1/2 years as director of plant services at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1983. He was very active in amateur radio, first in England as G3BSY and later was W3CTR until his death, serving as president of the Conemaugh Valley Armature Radio Club. In 1967, he became active in Toastmasters International. He maintained membership in the Johnstown club and served as Area 9 governor and District 13. SHEEHAN - Edward J. He was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Johnstown, son of the late Louis A. and Ethel (Schaefer) Sheehan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Louis, George and Thomas, and sisters, Mary Louise and Ethel. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 48 years, Florence Ann (Hartnett) Sheehan; and five children: Edward Jr., and his wife, Julie (Wanamaker) of Westmont; James, and his wife, Beth (Bates) of Richmond, Va.; John, and his wife, Laurie (Haller) of Round Hill, Va.; William, and his wife, Karen (Flynn) of Round Hill, Va.; and Mary Sheehan Hartnett, wife of Scot Hartnett of Westmont; and 20 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, John "Jack," and twin brother, James; and sister, Joanne Smith. He was a 1953 graduate of Johnstown High School, attended prep school at Wyoming Seminary in Wilkes-Barre. He graduated in 1958 from St. Francis University with a degree in physics. He earned his master's of science degree from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., in 1972. He was hired as a project engineer by the Department of the Army, Fort Belvoir, to assist in the development of night vision technology in 1959. He became the youngest director of the Army's Night Vision and Electro-Optics Laboratory in 1976. He was the recipient of the Army's Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the highest award bestowed on an Army civil servant, and many other commendations and awards. Subsequent to his government career, he founded Sheehan Associates Inc., a high technology consulting firm. He was also the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Stardyne Inc., a high technology laser metal-working company in Johnstown. He returned to government service at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as special assistant to the director. He was a biographee in Who's Who in America from 1980 to the present. He was the first recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus of Science Award from St. Francis University in 1989. In 1993, he was named Man of the Year by the Johnstown Inter-Service Club Council. Member of Our Mother of Sorrows Church, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, the Very Rev. Paul E. Turnbull, VF. There will be no viewing at the request of Mr. Sheehan. Hope was a member of St. Rochus Catholic Church. She graduated from Duquesne University. She worked as a teacher at St. Florian's Catholic School in United, Pa., as a caseworker for the Department of Public Welfare, and retired as an ES interviewer from the Bureau of Employment Security in Johnstown. She was well-known for her civic activities in Johnstown with many groups, including the NAACP, Birthright, the Red Cross, Pa. Human Relations Commission, and as a volunteer clown with local hospitals and children. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Moskal Funeral Home, West End, where vigil for the deceased will be held Monday afternoon. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rochus Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Amershek, celebrant. Committal, St. John's Cemetery.

Ruth was a graduate of Taylor University, Upland, Ind. Mrs. Klinger is survived by four sons: David of Orangeville, Pa.; Wesley of Nazareth, Pa.; Philip of Easton, Pa.; and Luther of Central City, Pa.; two daughters, RuthEllen Bowen of Kailua, Hawaii, and Susanne LaCourte of Milford, N.J.; two sisters, Edith Clark of Lake Ann, Mich., and Florence Baker of Flint, Mich.; three brothers: Wayne Schoeppach of Swartz Creek, Mich.; Lloyd Schoeppach of Bay City, Mich.; and Louis Schoeppach of Burton, Mich.; and 15 grandchildren.
