Mary was retired from the cafeteria department of WAHS. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic church, Windber, where she was past president of the Secular Franciscans and a Eucharistic minister, and where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, TOR Franciscans. Committal, church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Meek -- Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Burkett, both of Somerset; Frank S. Burkett Jr., and wife, Barbara, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Ms. Leora Peters of Virginia Beach, Va. She was a 1956 graduate of Somerset High School. Member of Somerset Alliance Church, where she was part of the Keenagers. She was also a part of the knitting club and she had worked as co-owner/operator of Bishop's Mobile Homes, retiring in 2004, with 40 years of service. Shirley was very active and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. CHERNICKY - Sedonia "Seda" L., age 83, Portage, entered into a new life on April 30, 2006. Born in Portage on May 23, 1922, she was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Tomajko-Smrek) Chernisky, who immigrated from Imrichfalu, Slovakia, to the Portage area in the early 1900s. Seda was proceeded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Demko and Mollie Bentkoski; brothers, Albert, John, Joe, Edward and August "Gus." Survivors include the following: sisters-in-law, Marge Chernitsky of Portage, who was her best friend and caregiver, and Helen Chernisky of Reno, Nev. Her nieces and nephews include John Chernitsky, Velma Chippo-Phillips and Delores Scarton of Portage; George Chernisky of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; Cheryl Chernisky of Reno, Nev.; Joylynn McCory of Natchltoches, La.; Wendy Bentkoski of Valencia, Calif.; Donna Bentkoski of Milwaukie, Ore.; and Richard Demko of Erie, Pa.; and many great- and great-great-nephews and nieces. on March 29, 1942, to Blaine W. Koontz of Rockwood, who passed on April 9, 2006. Surviving are two sons, Donald R. Durst of Windber, and daughter-in-law, Barbara (Anderson), and Blaine E. Koontz of Philipsburg, and daughter-in-law, Deborah (Miller); five grandchildren: James, J.W. and Jason Durst; Jeri (Durst) Galluchi; and Elaine Koontz; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her spouse and parents, six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Robert Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev.
