Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Agnes (Lang) and John Ock. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Portzer was a member of the Westwood Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are three daughters, Joan A., wife of Jim Prindle, Gilbertsville; A. Susan Jarvis, Mississippi; and Lynn N., wife of Scott Kime, Ohio; three sons, William M. Portzer Jr., husband of Sandra (Randolph), Audubon; R. Michael Portzer, New York; and Craig R. Portzer, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, Harold D. Ock. Services were private and at the convenience of the family. Morrell Funeral Home in Boyertown was in charge of arrangements.

SNYDER – Robert L.

Born March 8, 1925, in Johnstown, son of the late Charles L. and Hattie E. (Blount) Snyder. Preceded in death by sisters, Lois Vincent and Marjorie Snyder; brother, Billy Snyder; and grandson, Phillip Seigh. Survived by wife, the former Margaret E. Lang, and these children: Linda Grimaldi and Charles Snyder, both of Johnstown; Wayne Snyder, Portsmouth, Va.; Susan Seigh, Watauga, Texas; and Karen Seigh, Camden, N.C. Also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and these sisters; Iva Jean Hockensmith, Doris Bopp, Ann Valentine and Nancy Jo Plummer, all of Florida. Robert was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. and C&BL; Railroad, after 33 years of service. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and member of the Upper Room Sunday School and the Riverside Volunteer Fire Company. Friends received from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Arnold McFarland officiating. Inurnment, Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Robert’s memory. Arrangements in care of the Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage, where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bartholomew Church, Monsignor Timothy P. Stein, son of the deceased, celebrant. Committal, St. Bartholomew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. Bartholomew Church or to the Portage Ambulance Association in Mr. Stein’s memory.

THOMAS – Joanne Hayes (Price)
THOMAS – Joanne Hayes (Price), 79, of Lake Worth, Fla., and formerly of Ebensburg, passed away quietly on July 8, 2007, in Lake Worth. Born June 17, 1928, in Latrobe, daughter of the late John B. and Anne (Hayes) Price. Preceded in death by beloved husband of 46 years, Ferd P. Thomas. Devoted mother of: Anne Kenny, married to John, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Jane DeCoursey, married to Albert, Lake Worth, Fla.; Barbara Thomas, married to Tom Peters, Collingswood, N.J.; Patrick Thomas, and wife, Deborah Waters, New York, N.Y.; Kate Thomas, and fiance, Paul DiBiase, Lynnfield, Mass.; and Sue Cosgrove, married to Daniel, Collingswood, N.J.; and grandchildren: Dorian Boland; Isabel Thomas-Peters; Devon Waters; Chanelle, Ugo and Diandra DiBiase; and John Patrick Cosgrove. Also survived by her sisters: Margaret (Walter) Corran of Ebensburg and Mary Gregg of Somerset, and many nieces and nephews. A longtime Ebensburg resident, “Jo” was active in the Ebensburg Women’s Club and Mount Aloysius Junior College Alumni Association. She was very interested in children’s literature and was instrumental in the conception of and the fundraising for the original Holy Name School Library. In addition, she volunteered much of her time as the school librarian, director of many student reading clubs and as a Brownie troop leader. Jo loved to play bridge and was an active participant in the same bridge club for many years. A lover of the performing arts, she attended numerous classical presentations, even lending her lovely singing voice to the Johnstown Symphony Chorale. After devoting herself to her home and family, she went on to a career in administration at the Ebensburg Center. Upon Ferd’s retirement and their move to Florida, she worked as a licensed representative for Advantage Capital Corp. After Ferd’s passing, Jo spent the rest of her retirement in Florida, her last several years residing with her daughter Jane in Lake Worth. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal at Holy Name Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jo’s memory may be made to the Holy Name School Angel Fund, 500 N. Julian St., Ebensburg, Pa. 15931.

BAUGHMAN - Charles J.

Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman. A 1957 graduate of Gallitzin High School. He worked for Stanley Electric and J.C. Penney Co., Altoona. At Ron's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. Also survived by brothers, Roy Leventry, married to Lois, and Jack Leventry, and friend, Patsy; and sisters, Mary Ellen, married to the late George Mortimer, and Ida, married to the late James Firm. She was a graduate of Ferndale Area High School and a member of the Moxham Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker. She especially enjoyed sewing, baking and spending time with family. Friends received Saturday from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. at Moskal -- Kennedy Colonial Funeral Home, Ohio Street and Highland Avenue, the Rev. Robert Wagner officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions to Moxham Lutheran Church.
