Loving brother of Laura Richard (Doug) of Mashpee, Mass.; Theresa Collins (Allen) of Odessa, Fla.; Stephen Plummer of Sarasota, Fla.; and Rachel Stintzcum (David) of Brick, N.J. Marty is the son-in-law of Barbara Slade, and her beloved friend, Ralph Scobbo. He was the brother-in-law of Christopher Slade of New Jersey and Douglas and Adam Slade, both of Pittsburgh. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Martin was CEO and business owner of Plummer Slade Inc., a computer networking firm located in downtown Pittsburgh, since 1988. He attended St. Michael Grade School in Loretto and was a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg. He was a graduate of Slippery Rock University and received an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at T.B. Active member of the Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown, where he was a former council member and past president, lay assistant, Sunday school teacher, member of church bowling league and served on various committees, including being an active participant in the merger of the three churches that formed Laurel Trinity. Also longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America, having received numerous awards, including Lamb, Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, Order of Merit, Wood Badge, Silver Beaver and Somerset County Distinguished Citizen (1992). Recently received recognition for 67 years in the BSA as an adult volunteer scouter. Other scouting activities included serving on the council executive board as a council camp chairman, the district committee, as a neighborhood commissioner and scout master and participating in the Pinewood and Klondike derbies. Began a Lone Scout Patrol, district Explorer Post and district Cub day camp. Volunteer for RSVP and MOW for approximately 16 years. Volunteer forester for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry with over 35 years of service. Loved nature and bird watching. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laurel Trinity Church, the Rev. Jacquelyn S. Ahern officiating. Interment, Mount Zion Cemetery, Jenner Township, where Mel served many years on the Cemetery board. Member of the Servicemen's Club and Battle of the Bulge veterans association. Elected to Windber Area Hall of Fame 1986. Starting fullback for the 1933 Pennsylvania state champion Windber Area High School football team. Graduated from West Virginia University, Class of 1941, where he was a three-year football letterman and was a captain in 3478th Ordnance M.A.M. Company during World War II. John was predeceased by wife, Carolyn (Bradway) Carliss; brothers, William, Sylvester and Ernest, and sisters, Eva Carliss and Amelia Best. Survived by sisters-in-law, Sherley Lezenby, Pennsville, N.J., and Evelyn L. Carliss, Johnstown; brother-in-law, Arthur Bradway, Carneys Point; nieces, E. Lynne Wright, Vero Beach, Fla.; Jean Best, Woodbury, N.J.; and Lynne A. Carliss, Fairfax, Va.; and nephews, William J. Carliss, Frederick, Md., and Jeff Richard, Polk City, Iowa. Life member of Sons of Italy Lodge 1614, where he was financial secretary for over 30 years; Knights of Columbus, St. Anthony's Council 9136; Holy Name Society; longtime treasurer of the Goodfellowship Steelworkers Bowling League; and St. Anthony Festival chairman for 25 years. Inducted into the Johnstown Metro Bowling League Hall of Fame. Life member of Menoher Post 155 VFW. Member of St. Clare of Assisi Church, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
