Born May 28, 1943, in Pleasantville, daughter of Ray D. Lehman and Ethel (Malzi) Field. Preceded in death by parents and stepfather, Robert Field. Survived by husband of 45 years, Kenneth R. Hoffman; daughters, Sheila Hoffman, loved one to Ronald Shaffer, Johnstown; Wanda, married to Rickey Rager Jr., Hollsopple; and Tressa Hoffman, loved one to Jim Szala, Davidsville; grandsons, Maxwell and Mason Rager; special niece, Laura, married to Rick Boncoski, Jerome, whom Opal loved like a daughter; loving sisters, Ruby Scislowicz, Hooversville, and Diane Lyter, Central City; loving brothers, Don Lehman, St. Paul, Minn., and Charles Field, Central City; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, whom she loved dearly. Also survived by special friends, Linda Blank and Kathy Kimmel. Opal was an active member of the Davidsville Community Church and was employed for many years by the Value City department store. She loved quilting and taking care of her special boys, her grandsons. Anyone who had a chance to know her was truly blessed. Thank you to Windber Hospice nursing staff, especially her nurse, Chuck Rutter. KNAUER - Carl R. Sr., 76, of Johnstown, passed away on Oct. 24, 2005, at his residence. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Paul M. Robine. Committal will be at held at the convenience of the family.
MANSFIELD - Walter "Cal"
MANSFIELD - Walter "Cal," 76, Hallowell, Maine, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, following a courageous battle with cancer. Walter was Born at Magee- Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Nov. 25, 1928. He grew up in the Johnstown area and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, in 1950. He joined the General Electric Co. in 1950 and tested jet engines during the Korean War. In 1954, Walter was drafted into the Army, served two years in the Army Chemical Corps and was honorably discharged. Afterward, he moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., with his wife, Ann, and returned to work at General Electric. During his 38 years of service at General Electric, Walter became a registered professional engineer in Indiana, was issued multiple patents and was a dedicated member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In 2000, Walter and his wife moved to Maine to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He was a great husband, father and grandfather and a brilliant engineer, who continued in his last years working on engineering design and repair projects for loved ones. Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Ann Mansfield; his sister, Lois E. Mansfield of Pittsburgh; three children: Lois A. Mansfield, Plano, Texas; Dr. Carol Mansfield, Manchester, Maine; and Dr. John Mansfield, Berlin, Maine; and grandchildren, Isabel and Toby Smith and Thomas, Kathryn and Leesa Mansfield. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, where a celebration of Cal's life will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Raymond Anderson officiating. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown, in the spring of 2006. In lieu of flowers, cards to family members and memorial contributions to the MaineGeneral Health Cancer Center (mailed to the Office of Philanthropy, MaineGeneral Health, P.O. Born May 14, 1908, in Hastings, the daughter of the late Guy and Emily (Davis) Commons. Preceded in death by husband, Julius; brothers, Bobby and James; and sisters, Margaret Watters and Elizabeth Jackson. Survived by devoted sister-in-law, Dorothy Commons, and a good friend, Helene Hoffman. Member of Hastings United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She also taught public school in Richland, Glen Campbell and Hastings. Employed until retirement at the Commons Department Store, Hastings. She was a member of Hastings Senior Citizens, bridge clubs, Indiana Chapter 299 Eastern Star and BPW of Barnesboro. No visitation. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hastings United Methodist Church, the Rev. John Weaver. MUHA - Carl R. Survived by wife, the former Helen Podolka; children, Mary Frances, married to David Long, Texas; Barbara, married to W. Fred Wilson, Jennerstown; Carl R. Jr., married to Antoinette (Mindyas), Colorado; James, married to Justine (Litvin), Boiling Springs, Pa.; and Susan, married to Frank Lapinsky, Johnstown; and grandchildren, Robert and Michael Long and Becky Ray; Christopher and Matthew Muha; David, Daniel and Kelly Wilson and Jennifer Wigle; Jacob, Jessica, Joanna and Johnathan Muha; and Taylor and Troy Lapinsky. Expecting his first great-grandchild in December. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Celebrated 61 years of marriage on Aug. 8, 2005. Fourth Degree member of All Saints Assembly 0954 and Knights of Columbus Council 467. He was active in the K of C Color Corps. World War II Army veteran, serving three years, with two years service in the European Theatre. Also a charter member of the Catholic War Veterans from St. Joseph Church. Retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., after 35 years of service as a machinist. Member of Retired Men's Club, founding member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Over the years, he was active in all areas of the parish and recently retired as an usher after 50 years of service. He was a natural-Born artist and he painted two murals in St. Andrew's Church. He restored many statues for numerous other churches. He was an avid gardener who always had a beautiful flower garden. He volunteered as one of the first football coaches at St. Andrew's School, naming the team the Eagles. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Moskal -- Kennedy Colonial Funeral Home, Ohio Street and Highland Avenue, where vigil service will be held at 2 p.m. and K of C will recite rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. Sean Code, celebrant. Committal, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. Andrew's School.

ADAMIK - Francis T. "Frank," 89, Windber, passed away Aug. 6, 2007. Born Aug. 21, 1917, in Windber, son of the late Thomas and Anna (Lach) Adamik. Survived by wife of 60 years, Angeline (Sadel) Adamik; brother, Walter Adamik, Connecticut; sister, Mary Stupi, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Mary Adamik, Johnstown, and Anna Manchak, Johnstown; and several nieces and nephews. Retired coal miner from Berwind White Coal Co. Member of UMWA. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing or visitation. However, family and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (formerly St. John Cantius) Catholic Church, Windber, the Very Rev. Leonard E. BERTINO - Dr. Lawrence L.
BERTINO - Dr. Lawrence L., 73, Rockwood, passed on Aug. 7, 2007, at Somerset Hospital. Born May 21, 1934, in Rockwood, he is the son of the late Antonio and Domenica Bertino. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Bertino. He is survived by his son, Lawrence A. Bertino, and beloved former wife and devoted friend, Lotti Bertino, both of Johnstown. He was a graduate of Rockwood Area High School, the University of Pittsburgh and the Philadelphia College of Optometry. Dr. Larry was a longtime optometrist in Rockwood, opening his practice in 1958 and retiring in 2003. Early in his career, he would see patients during the day and then work at the family grocery store in the evenings to give his mother and sister a break. He was a member of the Rockwood Rotary Club since 1958 and was a former president and treasurer of the club. He was a former member of the Rockwood Area School Board. He was an active member of the Talus Rock Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and belonged to the Rockwood Historical and Genealogical Society, which honored him as their 2007 Man of the Year. He was a member of the South Central Blind Association Board of Directors and was a board member and former treasurer of the Somerset County Hospital Authority Board of Directors. He was a member of Lodge 358 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Somerset and the Meyersdale Elks. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Rockwood, where he was a past president of the church council and was active in the Bible study group. He loved to play golf both locally and around the country. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Church, Pastors Ardelle and George Mason officiating. Interment at Rockwood IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Luke's Church at 711 Broadway, Rockwood, Pa. 15557.
