Born May 10, 1926, daughter of Gregory and Mary (Turella) Lensie. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Michael; and son, Francis. Survived by daughters, Judy, Alabama, and Michele, wife of Barry Adomnik, Lancaster; grandchildren, Brandee, Barry and Kelly; and great-grandchildren, Michaela, Cheyenne, Seirra, Jessica, Brandon, Kylie and Seth. Friends will be received Saturday prior to a 10 a.m. service at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, the Very Rev. John Govrusik officiating. Committal, SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Greek Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make donations to Regional Hospice at Windber in Stella's memory.
BRANDAU- The Rev. Dr. Walter L. "Wally," 76, St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Berlin and Johnstown, passed from this life due to complications of pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease Dec. 7, 2006, at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park, Fla. Born March 19, 1930, in Hazleton, the son of the late Martin E. and Dorothy (Richards) Brandau. His wife of 55 years, Shirley Welker, formerly of Sunbury, Pa., is living in St. Petersburg. Wally graduated from Sunbury High School with the Class of 1947, Susquehanna University in 1951, Gettysburg Theological Seminary in 1954 and Chicago Seminary in 1966. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Susquehanna University in 1981. He ministered within the parishes of St. John's Lutheran, Espy and joint parish of Hidlay Lutheran, Bloomsburg, 1955-1959; Holy Trinity, Berlin, 1959-1967; Trinity Lutheran, Milton, 1967-1977; Mount Calvary, Johnstown, 1977-1985; and Saint Mark's, Williamsport, 1985-1995; where he retired. Shortly after retirement, Wally was called upon by the Synodical Bishop to serve as an interim minister over the next several years at the following Lutheran Churches in Elysburg, Jersey Shore, and Quiggleville, and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deerfield Beach, Fla. Wally was a member of various synodical committees and served on Tressler Lutheran Social Services' Board. He was a member of the Rotary International and was their group study leader to India. He was a Boy Scout leader in the various communities. He organized recovery efforts after several hurricanes and floods. Notably hurricanes Agnes, Hugo and Andrew, and the Johnstown Flood of 1977. He loved to spend time with his family, travel, camp and hike, paint, quilt and enjoyed wild flower photography. Wally also, along with Clyde Peeling, owner of Reptileland, Williamsport, traveled to Equador to study reptile habitats in the Amazon rain forest. He was a pianist and organist. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Rebekah and Robert K. Miller Jr., Florida; four sons and daughters-in-law: Lee Brandau, Milton; Mark and Pat (Mauger) Brandau, Hagerstown, Md.; Tim and Karen (Mowery) Brandau, Paxinos; and Edward and Amy (Kocis) Brandau, Johnstown; 12 grandchildren: Robert K. III and Michelle (Driscoll) Miller, Hamburg; Benjamin and Susan (Romanowsky) Miller, Swoyersville; Rachael Brandau, Johnstown; Johnathan Brandau, Milton; Jennifer Brandau, Memphis, Tenn.; Hannah and Jeremy Brandau, Hagerstown; Melissa and Matthew Brandau, Paxinos; and Emylee, Jacob and Kaitlyne Brandau, Johnstown; six great-grandchildren; Robert K. IV and Patrick Miller, Hamburg; and Austin, Noah, Collin and Elliot Miller, Swoyersville; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Edith (Carter) Brandau, Charlotte, N.C.; and sister, Shirley Tyler, St. Petersburg; along with several nieces and nephews and their families. Preparations for cremation have been arranged through Anderson-McQueen. Celebration of Life Services. Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, St. Petersburg, where he was a member, and St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Williamsport, at a later time. Surviving are husband, James Cassatt, Rev-loc; mother Nancy, Homer City; sister, Dawn Jarvie, and husband, Ike, Clymer; nephews, Joshua and Jacob Jarvie, William Jr. and Kevin Cassatt; niece, Misty Cassatt; grandfather, Dave Hollenbaugh, Homer City; and many aunts and uncles. Also, mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Member of Barkley United Methodist Church, Homer City. Employed by Home Instead, Ebensburg. CROWDER - Robert Sr. "Bobby," Detroit, formerly of Johnstown, passed away Nov. 21, 2006, at home. Born April 5, 1947, in Johnstown, son of Aubrey and Piccola (Toney) Crowder. Preceded in death by his father and brother, James Leonard. He leaves to mourn his wife, Margaret (Givens), Detroit; six children, Robin, Robert Jr. (Angela), Rhonda and RaShonda Lee (Ellison), all of Cleveland; Frankie and Tammy, Detroit; mother, Piccola, Johnstown; three brothers, Lauren Burney (Hattie), Aubrey Jr. (Juanita) and Carl, all of Cleveland; five sisters, Marilyn Tunson, Shirley Hunter (Joe), Ruthie and Barbara, Cleveland; and Janet Watts, Johnstown; six grandchildren, Kenneth, DeShon, Siraj, Brandon, Keayana and Brittany; aunt, Joyce Harris, Johnstown; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Robert attended barber college and was licensed in Ohio. He worked in Cleveland and later in Detroit until becoming ill. Cutting hair was a service he performed with dignity and passion. Born Dec. 22, 1924, in Johnstown, son of the late Stanton D. and Mary (Johnson) Custer. Preceded in death by brother, Warren. Survived by sister, Caryl L. Lamb, Maryland; sister-in-law, Skip Custer, Johnstown; five nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and -nephews. Also survived by friend Elsie and family. Member of the First United Methodist Church, the Trinity Lutheran Tuesday Fellowship, Seventh Ward Civic Club and Crime Watch. Mr. Custer was associated in Custer's Garage and retired from the maintenance department of Laurel Crest Manor. At Ben's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is being served by the Geisel Funeral Home, Dale. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Tuesday Fellowship.

Born Dec. 1, 1961, in Bethesda, Md., daughter of Robert Edmund and Shirley Mae (Richardson) Freidline of Bowie, Md. Preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mary and William Richardson. Survived by parents; and these brothers and sister, Christopher R., Bowie, Md.; Deidra, wife of Bruce Torbert, Hyattsville, Md.; and Kevin, married to Linda (Leizear), Bowie, Md. Aunt of Samantha Torbert, and Joshua, Nicholas and Jacob Freidline. Stephanie was a graphic designer at I Design Graphics. There will be no viewing. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in the Geisel-Devlin Memorial Chapel of the Geisel Funeral Home, Dale. HAWKSWORTH - Mary (Domenick)
HAWKSWORTH - Mary (Domenick), 81, of Ebensburg, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2006, surrounded in the love of her family. Born March 17, 1925, in Colver, daughter of the late Frank and Caroline (Conigy) Domenick. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Scott Hawksworth Sr.; they had been married for 51 years (1948-1999). She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn M. (Hawksworth) Gall, and husband, Robert Gall, Irwin; son, John Scott Hawksworth Jr., and wife, Deborah, Ebensburg; grandchildren, Jennifer Gall Annichine, and husband, Michael; Melissa Gall Helman, and husband, Shawn; David Gall; Michael Hawksworth, and fiancee, Kirstin Ritchey; and Lisa Hawksworth; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Anthony Annichine. She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Falchini and Frances Romani, both of Ebensburg. Mary had been a lifelong resident of Ebensburg where she was well known for her cake decorating and baking. She had worked as a baker and decorator in her father's bakery, the former Home Baking Company in Ebensburg. She taught baking and decorating at Admiral Peary Vo-Tech and worked as a dietary assistant. She retired from Ebensburg Center as dietary supervisor. A member of Holy Name Catholic Church, where she enjoyed volunteering for many of the church's activities. She was involved in the Grief Committee, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, VFW Auxiliary and was a former Boy and Girl Scout leader with her children. She especially enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where a vigil prayer service will be held Sunday evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Monsignor Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal at Holy Name Cemetery. A CD of A rosary will be held 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening. Contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the Dauntless Fire Company or the John Paul II Manor in Cresson. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Mary's many friends who shared their love and support with them and to the loving sisters and staff at the John Paul II Manor for all the love, care and support that was given to the family.

Also survived by special friend, Ruth Ann Gray. Ann was the first cook at St. Andrew School, also baked at Sunnehanna Country Club and was a self-employed baker. Life member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and Somerset County Fireman's Auxiliary. She sold her baked goodies at the farmers' market in Johnstown. She helped her daughter with Pleasure Pools. Ann enjoyed telling stories of her life; she was an avid quilter and made afghans for friends and family. She played pinocle and poker. The family would like to thank Windber Hospice for the care they provided. Friends received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Moskal -- Kennedy Colonial Funeral Home, Ohio Street and Highland Avenue. Survived by mother, Portage; and children, Barry, married to the former Veronica Gaudlip, Portage; Cindy, wife of Joe Milanak, Leechburg; Sherry, wife of Scott Weaver, Ligonier; Tammy, wife of Brian Sendzik, and Troy, married to the former Carol Teno, both of Portage. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Jeremy Matuscin; Amber Tepper; Ryan, Brooke and Eric Layo; Brock Weaver; Trenton, Alexa and Savannah Layo; and Benjamin and Kaitlin Sendzik. Sister of John Trusik Jr., married to the former Marjorie Gruss, Benscreek; Beatrice Husband and Karen, wife of Gary Stager, both of Portage. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Former aide at the Cresson and Ebensburg centers and seamstress for Puritan Foundation in Portage. Edie especially loved family vacations at the beach and fishing with her husband. She also loved to attend all the sporting events for her grandchildren. She was a very caring person who would take others to their doctors appointments before she would go to her own. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Mark A. Serenko Funeral Home, Portage, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Hammers Street, Portage, the Rev. Ronald V. Osinski, celebrant. Entombment in Sacred Heart Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Portage Ambulance, the Leukemia or Lymphoma Society, the American Red Cross or Portage Public Library.
