Pia Baiocchi
Mass will be celebrated Friday in Berwick
Pia Baiocchi, 98, of 835 LaSalle St., Berwick, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at the Berwick Hospital Center.
Born May 20, 1900, in Italy, she was a daughter of the late Luigi and Teresa Ferrari D'Esculopio.
Her husband, Louis C. Baiocchi, died previously. Other family members also died earlier: a grandson; two sons, Dominick and Joseph Biacchi; a brother, Luigi D'Esculopio; and a sister: Erma DeCesaris.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Berwick, where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
Surviving are two sons: Eugene "Geno" and Larry Biacchi, both of Berwick; a daughter, Mrs. Nicholas (Antoinette) Montecalvo, Berwick; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Montecalvo home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 721 Monroe St., Berwick, with the Rev. Dominick A. Mammarella officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick.

Lena Z. Long
Centenarian had worked at father's business
Lena Zell Long, 106, Market Street, Benton, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at the Bonham Nursing Center, Stillwater R.R.1, where she had lived since July 1987.
Born Aug. 21, 1892, in New Columbus, she was a daughter of the late Otis M. and Lucy A. Wenner Long.
She lived in Benton since 1908 and was the oldest resident of Benton and Columbia County at the time of her death. Early in her life, she had been a secretary at the former Long Wagon Works, Benton, which was owned by her father.
She was a member of the Benton United Methodist Church.
A brother, Sheldon C. Long, died Sept. 3, 1967; and a sister, Ruth E. Drew, about 1978.
She is survived by a nephew.
Graveside services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Benton Cemetery with the Rev. Arthur Lee Hayman, pastor of Faith Bible Church, Orangeville R.R.2, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home, Benton.

Gloria D. Thomas
Memorial services will be held in Berwick
Memorial services for Gloria D. Naus Thomas will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Kelchner-McMichael Funeral Home, 19-121 E. Third St., Berwick. Father Bruce Bumbarger from St. Mary's Church of Berwick will be officiating. Private burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
Thomas, 66, of 326 E. Front St., Berwick, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 22, 1999, at the Berwick Retirement Village I, where she had lived for six months.

Kenneth O. Paisley Sr.
Retired N.J. state director of health planning and research
Kenneth O. Paisley Sr., 61, of 1419 Market St., Berwick, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Grand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C., while on vacation.
Born July 17, 1937, in Hobbie, Hollenbach Township, he was the son of late Wilbur and Agatha Comcheck Paisley.
He graduated from Newport Township High School class of 1954.
He earned a bachelor of science degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in biology and attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Physical Therapy, where he was awarded a licensed certificate. Paisley earned his master's degree from University of Scranton in rehabilitation counseling and a master's degree from University of North Carolina in public health administration.
He served with the Army, stationed at Fort Devons, Mass. from 1959 to 1962.
Paisley served at the new Berwick Hospital in the physical therapy department in 1962. He then worked with the Greater Delaware Valley Region Medical Center, Haverford, and taught physical therapy at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. For 25 years, he was employed by the state of New Jersey as director of health planning and research in Trenton, retiring in 1992.
Following retirement, he was employed by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit for three years as a traveling physical therapist in Columbia County. He was then employed by Holy Family Home Health and Hospice Care of Schuylkill County.
He was a member of the Berwick Lions Club and was secretary for several years. He was 1996 Lion of the Year. He was a member of Board of Directors of the Northeast Eye Bank.
He was a member of the Berwick Elks Lodge 1138, Cole's Creek Sportsman Club, Benton, where he served as secretary; and the Sour Apple's Hunting Club, Benton.
He was a former member of the Fitchburg, Mass., Masonic Lodge, and was an Eagle Scout as a young man.
He enjoyed reading and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary L. Donlin, with whom he celebrated a 39th wedding anniversary on Sept. 19, 1998; a son, Kenneth O. Paisley, Jr., Lockport, N.Y.; daughter, Mrs. Brian (Kathy Jo) Minnick, Sayre; a sister, Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Ambosi, Slocum; three brothers: Norman Paisley, Titusville, Fla., Donald Paisley, Berwick, and Myles Paisley, Troy, Mich.
A brother, Capt. Orval W. Paisley, died in 1972.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. Robert Ludrowsky, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Berwick, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.

Glen G. Bredbenner
Glen G. Bredbenner, 85, of 542 Broad St., Nescopeck, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2003, at Berwick Hospital Center.
A lifelong resident of Nescopeck, he was born Nov. 12, 1917, a son of the late Peter and Blanche Miller Bredbenner. He was a 1936 graduate of the former Nescopeck High School.
Mr. Bredbenner served in the Army Air Force in World War II and also in the Korean War.
For several years, he worked for the former Berwick Enterprise newspaper, and after his military service, worked at Bredbenner's Service Station until his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Bredbenner was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Nescopeck.
He was a life member of the Nescopeck Fire Co., the Knapp Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Berwick, and the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg.
He enjoyed being with his family, as well as gardening and working in the yard.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marion L. Aurand, and three brothers: John, Robert and Gene Bredbenner.
Surviving is his wife, the former Ruth Paden, to whom he was marriage 46 years. Also surviving are a son, Jon P. Bredbenner, Abbottstown; a granddaughter; and a sister, Helen E. Klinetob, Foundryville.
A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Nescopeck. His pastor, the Rev. Fred Hickok, will officiate. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick.

Anna E. Fennessey
Anna E. Fennessey, 82, of 3806 Elby Court, Silver Springs, Md., died Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Montgomery Hospice Casey House, Rockville, Md.
Born in Berwick, Nov. 4, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Anna Yonko Hemlock.
Mrs. Fennessey went to work at the United States Postal Service in 1944 in the Washington headquarters, and later transferred to the Postal Inspection Service Training Academy in Bethesda, Md., where she retired as an administrative assistant in 1980.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, and the Holy Annunciation Russian Orthodox Church in Berwick.
Mrs. Fennessey was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Martz, and a brother, Michael Hemlock.
Surviving are a son, David G. Fennessey, Burke, Va.; a grandson, and a sister, Helen French, Frederick, Md.
Funeral services will be held at St. Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, Monday at 10:30 a.m.
Locally, Panikhida services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Weremedic officiating. Burial will be in Holy Annunciation Parish Cemetery, Briar Creek Township.

Clara V. (Hines) Franklin
Clara V. (Hines) Franklin, 90, of 317 W. Front St., Berwick, died at her home Friday, June 6, 2003.
Born in Hunlock Creek, Luzerne County, Nov. 30, 1919, she was a daughter of the late William Henry Harrison Hines and Rhoda Cardine DeRemer Hines. She was the last surviving member of the Huntington Mills High School Class of 1931.
For 15 years, Mrs. Franklin worked as a cook at the former Blue Bird Restaurant in Berwick. Later she worked in the mail room at the former Bloomsburg State College. She was also employed for 10 years by the former McGregor Company in Lime Ridge. She worked at area nursing homes and had done domestic work in the Berwick area until she retired in 1975.
She was active with the Berwick Senior Citizens Club, where she helped in the kitchen and participated in the club band. A former member of the Summer Hill Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Mrs. Franklin belonged to the Evan Owens Social Club and enjoyed traveling and baking.
She was a very active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Berwick, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Naomi Circle. A former Sunday school teacher, she also helped with church bazaars and suppers, and sang with other church members for residents at area nursing homes.
She was preceded in death by two husbands: Mason Jefferson Meeker in July 1952 and Alvin Franklin in June 1972.
Surviving are her two children: Lynn M. Adams of Jerseytown and Larry Wade Meeker of Stillwater; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kelchner-McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick. The Rev. Fred J. Fields, her pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Harveyville.

Joseph B. Stevens Sr.
Orangeville man was last of his immediate family Joseph B. Stevens Sr., 84, of 217-A Savage Hill Road, Orangeville, died at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for one week.

Terry L. Benshoff
Services have been held for Evans Disposal driver Terry L. Benshoff, 52, of 244 Queen City Road, Catawissa, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his home. He had been in failing health for a year. Born in Berwick, Feb. 17, 1949, he was the son of the late Do...[cut off]

Carl L. Neyhard
WW II veteran was self-employed carpenter
Carl L. Neyhard, 75, of 361 W. Fifth St., Bloomsburg, died Saturday morning, Oct. 6, 2001, at his home. He had been in ill health for several months. A resident of his Fifth Street home for 20 years, he had formerly lived at 537 Market St.
Born in Bloomsburg, June 13, 1926, he was a son of the late John R. and Louise Gibbs Neyhard. After graduating from Bloomsburg High School, he immediately enlisted in the Navy, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II.
A carpenter his entire working life, Neyhard was self-employed for 20 years. He retired in 1991.
Neyhard was a 52-year member of St. Columba Catholic Church.
A Third Degree Knight of Columbus, he was also a life member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge No. 436.
In addition to his parents, Neyhard was also preceded in death by two brothers: Ralph Neyhard and Robert Neyhard.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, the former Dolores Romowicz. Also surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) Zeisloft, Jerseytown; Mary Neyhard, Royersford; and Mrs. Robert (Barbara A.) Tyson, Ashburn, Va; two sons: Carl J. Neyhard, Danville; and John R. Neyhard, Bloomsburg; nine grandchildren; three brothers: Samuel Neyhard, Bloomsburg; Skyles Neyhard, Arizona; and Donald Neyhard, Bloomsburg; and two sisters: Mary Baker and Edith Barton, both of Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Columba Catholic Church, 329 Iron St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Patrick A. Devine, as celebrant. Burial will be in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, Market and Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.

Pauline L. Tyson

Pauline Lillian Tyson, 89, formerly of Cleaver Street, Shamokin, died 11:07 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center. She had been ill for a number of months.
Born in Catawissa, Dec. 27, 1911, she was a daughter of the late David and Daisy Reigle Breech. She attended Catawissa schools. A resident of Shamokin from 1937 to 2000, she later moved to Catawissa.
Additional siblings who preceded her in death are a sister, Margaret Fowler, and two brothers, Ambrose Breech and Ralph Breech.
