Obituaries by LocationFred F. Frey Sr.
Fred F. Frey Sr., 63, of Wapwallopen R.R.2, Hobbie, Hollenback Township, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Formerly of 438 E. Sixth St., Berwick, he had been ill for several years.
Born Aug. 8, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Earl Frey and Ruth Williams Frey.
A graduate of Georgetown High School, Wilkes-Barre, and the National Radio Institute, he was employed as a mechanic at Consolidated Cigar Corp., Berwick, for 24 years, retiring in 1984 due to illness.
A musician who loved country music, Frey played steel guitar and electric guitar, playing with several area bands, including the Sunshine Ramblers and the Al Hess Family Band.
A hunter and fisherman in his younger years, Frey was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed target shooting and reloading ammunition. Other hobbies included computers and electronics.
A wife, Sharon N. Horsefield Frey, died Oct. 9, 1998, and a brother, Earl "Sonny" Frey, also died previously.
He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley M. Michael, to whom he was marriage March 31; four children: Mrs. Paul (Dixie L.) Huray, Berwick; Fred F. Frey Jr., Nescopeck; and Mrs. Joseph (Deborah K.) Cope and Timothy S. Frey, both of Berwick; six stepchildren: Mrs. George (Patti A.) Sheriff, Williamsport; Mrs. Bradley (Cindy L.) Traver, Catawissa; Tammy O'Rourke, Drums; Kelly O'Rourke, Dorrance; Eric O'Rourke, Gowanda, N.Y.; and Mrs. Craig (Dawn) Brown, Asbury; 15 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Kelchner-McMichael funeral Home Inc., 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick, with the Rev. Glenn C. Limbaugh Jr., pastor of First United Methodist Church of Berwick, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
George Hudreck
Funeral services for George "Conshohocken George" Hudreck, of Elk Grove, Benton, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the McMichael Funeral Home, 4394 Red Rock Road (Route 487), Benton, with the Rev. Alfred P. Sceski, pastor of Christ The King Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Hudreck, 76, died at home early Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2001, following an illness of several years. He had lived at his Elk Grove address since the 1970s.
Born Aug. 19, 1925, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Anthony Hudreck and Anna Corney Hudreck.
A graduate of a Philadelphia high school, Hudreck was a World War II Navy veteran, and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
Hudreck was an auto mechanic for a Volvo dealership in Berwyn, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed hunting and woodworking in his younger years.
A brother, William Hudreck, died previously.
He is survived by his wife, the former Dolores Bodnar, with whom he celebrated a 51st wedding anniversary on Sept. 16; four children: George Hudreck, Conshohocken; Robert Hudreck, Sonestown; Anthony Hudreck, Villas, N.J.; and Mrs. Frank (Julieann) Ciesielski, Somerdale, N.J.; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Henry Hudreck, Florida; and a sister, Katherine Baron, Conshohocken.
Helen M. MacVie Lauchner
Helen M. MacVie Lauchner, of Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, Lime Ridge, is also survived by a companion, Albert Kupsky, with whom she lived.
Lauchner, 84, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1, 2001, at the Berwick Hospital Center, where she had been a patient for two days.
Jean Lauretta Boyer
Jean Lauretta Boyer, 71, of 1003 Avenue H, Riverside, for three months, died at home at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, following a one-year illness. She previously lived on Mill Street, Danville, since 1998. Earlier still, Boyer resided on Reber Road, Mifflinburg R.R.4, for 15 years.
Born July 5, 1930, in Hartley Township, Union County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Carey and Sarah Ellen Hironimus Libby.
Boyer was a graduate of the Burnham High School in 1949. Following graduation, she was a secretary at the state Capitol, Harrisburg, until her marriage.
On May 27, 1951, in Harrisburg, she was marriage to George Lewis Boyer, who died July 31, 1998.
A homemaker, Boyer was a member of the Hironimus Union Church, Weikert.
In addition to her husband, a brother, Paul W. "Bill" Libby, died previously, as did two sisters: Marjorie M. Shively and Marian S. Priar.
She is survived by a daughter, Libby L. Kaplan, Riverside; a son, Steven F. Boyer, Haverhill, Mass.; two granddaughters; and eight siblings: Ethel R. Caldwell, Levittown; Ralph T. Libby, Mechanicsburg; K. Virginia Martin, Millmont R.R.1; Nancy I. Ney, Steelton; Lyman L. Libby, Harrisburg; Josephine E. Mayes, Hershey; Jack S. Libby, Lewistown; and D. Roger Libby, Mifflinburg R.R.4.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, with the Rev. Earl P. Robb, Millheim, assistant pastor of Hironimus Union Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Hironimus Church Cemetery, Hartley Township.
Maude Minerva McMichael
Maude Minerva McMichael, 72, of Newark, Del., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001.
Born Aug. 17, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Harry R. and Nellie M. Heimbach Broadt.
McMichael was employed as a waitress for most of her life in the Bloomsburg area.
She attended the Community of Christ Church of Delaware.
McMichael enjoyed crocheting.
A brother, Robert Broadt, died previously, as did a sister, Mary A. Fausey.
She is survived by six children: Rose Culver, Conowingo, Md.; Harry Robert Andy, Escondido, Calif.; William P. McMichael, Bear, Del.; Diane Carter, Ormond Beach, Fla.; John Isadorski, El Cajan, Calif.; and Maude M. Zerbe, Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Marlene Drumm, Danville.
Services were held Monday at the Hicks Home for Funerals, Elkton, Md., with burial in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, Md.
Paul E. Young
Paul E. Young, 87, of Bloomsburg, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at the Bonham Nursing Center, Huntington Township.
Born Aug. 25, 1914, in Mount Pleasant, he was a son of the late Edward and Margaret Carl Young.
Before retiring, Young was employed as a truck driver for Ferguson Trucking Co. and the Bloomsburg Ice Plant, both of Bloomsburg; and Wise Potato Chip Trucking and LaBar Trucking, both of Berwick.
His wife, the former Kathryn Steinruck, died previously, as did the following family members: a son, Paul E. Jr.; a daughter, Joyce Collins; three brothers: George Young, Clinton Young and Raymond Gordner; and two sisters: Mary VanHorn and Martha Engel.
He is survived by his companion, Elizabeth LaBar, Bloomsburg; a son, Randall R. Young, Winfield; a daughter, Cindy Whalen, Catawissa; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Harold Hildebrand officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek.
Robert G. Taylor
Robert G. Taylor, 88, of 2412 John Penn Circle, Bloomsburg, died 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the emergency room of Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He had been in failing health for two months.
Born Oct. 3, 1913, in Bloomsburg, he was a son of the late Harry C. and Lilla May Cadow Taylor.
He had previously resided in Endicott, N.Y., and Rockville, Md., where he was employed by IBM Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 1972, at which time he returned to Bloomsburg.
Taylor was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg.
His wife, the former Frances Clark, died Jan. 6, 2000. The following family members also died previously: three sisters: Elizabeth Taylor, as an infant in 1916; Martha M. Taylor, on July 13, 1950; and Erma T. Taylor, on Jan. 5, 1983; and three brothers: Franklin, in infancy; Alton P. Taylor, on Dec. 31, 1961; and J. Carl Taylor, on Oct. 17, 1999. Taylor was the last member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Calvin L. Miller, officiating. Burial will be in Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg.
William H. Riffel
William H. Riffel, of Hernando, Fla., formerly of Bloomsburg, was the son of the late Orville Riffel and Elnora "Nellie" Hoffman, who died July 27, 2001.
He was a 1940 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Riffel, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Fla.
Services were held in Clearfield.
Roger E. Menges
Roger E. Menges, 47, of Watsontown R.R.2, died at his home Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, following a brief illness. Born March 31, 1954, at Muncy Valley Hospital, he was a son of Grace Plotts Menges, Watsontown R.R.2, and the late Clare L. Menges, who died July 1, 2000...[cut off].
Ruth R. Kravabloski
Ruth R. Kravabloski, 71, of Main Road, Shickshinny, died at home Monday, Dec. 3, 2001. Born Sept. 12, 1930, in Tunkhannock, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lottie Phillips Carter. Kravabloski was employed for many years as a nurses aide at St. S...[cut off].
Lawrence R. Hartman Sr.
Lawrence R. Hartman Sr., 41, of Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital emergency room.
Born in Nanticoke, March 27, 1961, he was a son of Mrs. Shirley Evans Hartman, Wapwallopen, and the late Jonah Hartman. He attended Nanticoke schools.
Mr. Hartman had been employed at the Nanticoke Shoe Factory and Heinz Pet Products until his disability.
He was a member of the Wheels of Freedom Motorcycle Club, Swoyersville.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Wayne.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, is his wife, the former Virginia Kessler. Also surviving are his nine children: Connie Bacon, Wilkes-Barre; Clara, Bobby Jo, Lawrence Jr., Richard; Virginia, Garth, Lucile and Wesley Hartman, all of Wilkes-Barre; a grandson; five brothers: Jonah Jr. and Gerald Sr., both of Wilkes-Barre; Robin Sr., Hunlock Creek; and Gary and Billy, both of Wapwallopen; and four sisters: Linda O'Brien, Wilkes-Barre; Patricia Eddy, Bloomsburg; April Mazillo, Ashley; and Shirley Hunlock, Wilkes-Barre.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Williams Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth. Interment will be in Reyburn Cemetery.
Mary Stern Beishline
Mary Stern Beishline, of Mountain Road, Sugarloaf, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Berwick Hospital Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home East, 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums.
