Obituaries by LocationRaymond A. Emerson
Raymond A. Emerson, 91, formerly of South Street, Union City, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Rolling Fields Nursing Center in Conneautville, Crawford County.
He was born Dec. 17, 1906, in Union City, son of the late George and Donna Parker Emerson.
Mr. Emerson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Pennsylvania Fish Commission at the Union City Fish Hatchery before his retirement.
He attended the United Presbyterian Church of Union City.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Gale Emerson; a daughter, Alice Harrison and her husband, Paul, of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Howard Emerson of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Glenn Funeral Home, 62 South Main St., Union City, Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service there at 4 p.m. The Rev. Robert Willert, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Union City, will officiate.
Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Adelaide Causgrove Pietron
Adelaide "Addie" M. Causgrove Mosher Pietron, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at St. Mary's Home.
She was born in Erie on May 16, 1912, daughter of the late Charles J. and Stella Spiringer Causgrove.
She was a 1930 graduate of Academy High School and was a longtime resident of Lawrence Park. She had her own catering business serving mostly Lawrence Park. She was a member and past president of the Rosary Society at St. Mark Church.
She served as an auditor in Lawrence Park and was a District 2 committeewoman and vice-chairperson of the Erie County Democratic Party. She also served as an executive of the Federation of Democratic Women, and co-chaired the ECWDC convention in 1985. She was honored as "Women of the Year" by Erie County Women Democrats in 1979.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred M. Mosher Sr., in 1956; her second husband, Chester J. Pietron, in 1983; a brother, Charles P. Causgrove; and a sister, Stella Causgrove.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Olesnik of Sag Harbor, N.Y.; three sons, Russell N. Mosher of Chantilly, Va., Richard Mosher of Colton, Calif. and Alfred Mosher of New York City; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, W. 25th and Sassafras streets, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at St. Mark Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
The Rev. John Hilbert with the Rosary Society will recite the Rosary on Sunday at 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul V. Brown
Paul V. Brown, 71, 4934 N. Main St., McKean, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 27, 1926, son of the late Chester and Olivia Paul Brown.
Mr. Brown had served with the U.S. Navy. He had been employed with General Electric Co. in Louisville for 27 years before moving to the Erie area.
He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church and the Golden Agers Group, both in McKean; and had been a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Louisville.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Brown and Melvin Brown; and a sister, Margaret Crenshaw.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Richardson Brown; two daughters, Debra Henderson of McKean and her husband, Michael, and Colleen Gaskill of Cox's Creek, Ky. and her husband, James; a son, Paul K. Brown of Fern Creek, Ky., and his wife, Karen; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours and services will be in Louisville.
Burial will be at Highland Memorial Gardens in Louisville.
The Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., handled local arrangements.

Mary E. Thayer Wise
OIL CITY - Mary E. Thayer Wise, 90, formerly of Grandview Road and Towne Towers, died on Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the Oil City Presbyterian Home.
She was born on July 10, 1907, the daughter of the late Smiley George and Musetta N. Montgomery Cramer.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Hope Circle of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Wise worked at the Blind Association and was a secretary at Grace United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death on Oct. 14, 1968, by her first husband, Easton B. Thayer; and on June 24, 1991, by her second husband, Byron E. Wise, whom she marriage on June 19, 1970.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, William Easton Thayer and Richard L. Thayer; a daughter, Marjorie Kreamer; and two brothers, Harold C. Cramer and Kenneth L. Cramer.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth S. Thayer of Altona, N.Y.; two stepsons, Will Wise of Seneca RD 2 and Charles Wise of Erie; a sister, Marjorie Kirk of Rocky Grove; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon until the time of a service there at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Byron K. Myers, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Rocky Glenn Cemetery, Adamsville.

Alois B. Anysz
Alois B. Anysz, 76, of Erie, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Erie on Jan. 1, 1922, son of the late Walter and Stella Wrzeszcz Anysz.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Before his retirement, he was a pattern maker for several years at Lake Shore Markers, then most recently Packiun Pattern. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Kyhn Anysz; and two sisters, Charlotte Anysz and Mary Kaczmarek.
Survivors include four sons, Bernard Anysz and Charles Anysz, both of Erie, and Gerald Anysz and Willian Anysz, both of Waterford; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home, E. 21st and Ash streets, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be there Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Michael B. Toth
Michael B. Toth, 64, 618 E. Ninth St., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Metro Health Center.
He was born in Coaldale, Pa., July 4, 1933, son of the late Michael and Anna Novak Toth.
Mr. Toth served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He had formerly been employed at Bethlehem Steel.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Theresa Wyhoushy and Lillian Kellet; and two brothers, Bernard Toth and Edward Toth.
Mr. Toth is survived by his wife, Yvonne Gratto Toth; four sons, Caleb Michael Toth of Erie, Stephen Toth of York, Pa., and his wife, Lori, Michael Toth of New Ringold, Pa., and his wife, Linda, and Mark Toth of Tanaqua, Pa., and his wife, Amy; three sisters, Anna Mae Betz, Frances Toth and Mary Jane Hartranft, all of Tamaqua, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2101 Ash St., Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Saturday at 1 p.m., conducted by Monsignor William Biebel.
Private burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

Lola Boozer Wolfe
Lola R. Boozer Wolfe, 82, of Pennsylvania Memorial Home in Brookville, Pa., and formerly of R.D. 2, Brookville, (KnoxDale, Pa.) died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at her residence.
She was born on April 9, 1915, in Distant, Pa., daughter of the late Jessie and Essie Willison Boozer.
Mrs. Wolfe had been a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Wempler, in 1966; her second husband, Lincoln Wolfe, in 1992; three brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Wolfe is survived by four stepchildren, Mrs. James (Margie) Hartman of Arcade, N.Y., Paul C. Wolfe of Erie and his wife, Sandra, Louella Janusleski of Erie and Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Minnus of Erie; a brother, Ben Boozer of Albion; a sister, Mary Xethakis of Erie; and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Galbraith-McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of services there at 1 p.m., with the Rev. William Chamberlin officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in KnoxDale, Pa.
Memorials may be to the charity of one's choice.

Frank P. Zappia
RIDGWAY - Frank P. Zappia, 71, 1532 Hill, Ridgway, died on Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Elk County Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1926, in Ridgway, a son of the late Dominick and Angeline DePalma Zappia.
Mr. Zappia, a graduate of St. Leo High School, had been a lifelong Ridgway resident and worked for West Penn Power for 42 years before retiring. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and its Ushers Club, the St. John of God Society, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, the Ridgway Elks, VFW and the Ridgway Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Santina Zappia; a brother, Joseph, in infancy; and a sister, Mary, in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine M. DePanfilis Zappia, whom he marriage July 5, 1948; a daughter, Deborah Cotorceano of Williamsburg, Va.; a son, Joseph E. Zappia of Ridgway; four grandchildren, Justin P. and Nicole Zappia and Leah and Adam Cotorceano; two sisters, Jennie O'Connell of Ridgway and Grace Zappia of Erie; two brothers, Joseph Zappia of Olean, N.Y., and Rocco Zappia of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home, Ridgway, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Chruch Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Burial with military honors will be at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
A wake service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Leo Catholic Church or St. Leo School.
