Nancy Smith Olson, 67, of Fairview, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Latrobe Area Hospital in Westmoreland County.
She was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Jeannette, Westmoreland County, daughter of the late Edward S. and Irene V. Eisaman Smith.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa M. Olson; a son, Carl R. Olson; and a sister, Thelma H. Carlson.
She is survived by her husband, Richard D. Olson; a daughter, Lucinda A. "Cindy" Deren of RD 2 Saltsburg, Westmoreland County, and her husband, Stanley; a son, Todd W. Olson of Erie; a brother, Robert H. Smith of LaPine, Ore.; a sister, Vivian "Winnie" Magaw of White Oak, Allegheny County, and her husband, Harry; three grandsons, Jason Keenan and Charles and Daniel Deren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were private.

Carmen L. DeFabio
WARREN - Carmen L. DeFabio, 66, of 205 Buchanan St., Warren, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 21, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center after a year-long illness.
He was born Nov. 6, 1931, in Kinzua, Warren County, son of the late Angelo and Rose DePetro DeFabio.
Mr. DeFabio lived in Kane and Bradford in McKean County before moving to Warren 41 years ago. He was a former police officer in Kane and most recently worked at the Warren Mall at a maintenance man until his retirement.
He also worked for the Warren city streets department, worked in the Pennsylvania oil fields and was a traveling representative for Procter & Gamble Co.
Mr. DeFabio served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Tech 5 sergeant.
He was a former member of the Moose lodge in Warren and Eagles Club in Kane.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Anthony DeFabio, and a sister, Sue E. Vavala.
He is survived by a brother, Gerald DeFabio of Warren; three sisters, Josephine Walter of North East, Lucille Battista of Warren and Millie Grassi of Scotsville, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Warren on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jack Bauer, pastor of St. Anthony Catholic Church, will be the celebrant.
Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Bradford.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

Carme Mazzotta Cassano
Carme F. Cassano, 76, of 1420 W. 41st St., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
She was born March 16, 1921, in Kittanning, Armstrong County, daughter of the late Salvatore S. and Clementina Palermo Mazzotta.
Mrs. Cassano had been a parishioner of St. George Catholic Church since 1948. She was involved in the church's feather party and bingo committees.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore S. Cassano, in 1991; two sons, John Cassano in 1993 and Sam Cassano in 1958; a sister, Raffaela Abate; and two brothers, Dominick and Frank Mazzotta.
She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Arters and her husband, Fred, of Virginia Beach, Va., Frances Reinsel and her husband, Sam, Nancy Cassano and Veronica "Ronnie" Weber and her husband, Kenneth, all of Erie; two stepchildren, Therese M. Black and her husband, James, and Charles R. Cassano and his wife, Marie, all of Erie; a sister, Nina Josephine Conway of Arnold, Westmoreland County; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Brugger Home for Funerals, W. 38th and Greengarden Blvd., Thursday and Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Saturday at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Catholic Church, 5145 Peach St., at noon.
Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 E. 11th St., Erie, PA 16503.

Kathryn Crowley Pfadt
Kathryn Crowley Pfadt, 79, of 1679 W. 45th St., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Erie Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born July 19, 1918, in Erie, daughter of the late William and Sarah Payne Crowley.
Mrs. Pfadt, who lived in Erie all her life, worked for First National Bank as a teller, retiring in 1968.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Pfadt, in 1990; a sister, Marie Crowley; and three brothers, William, John and Joseph Crowley.
She is survived by a son, James J. Pfadt of Edinboro and his wife, Linda; a brother, Robert Crowley of Erie; and two grandsons, Garrett and Jeremy Pfadt.
There will be no visitation. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
John J. Quinn Funeral Home, W. 9th and Liberty streets, is in charge of arrangements.

Jean Rae Shunk Swackhamer
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS - Jean Rae Shunk Swackhamer, 67, of 18632 Birch Drive, Saegertown, Crawford County, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Meadville Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born April 27, 1930, daughter of the late Jessie T. Shunk and Florence Boulton Shunk Bortz.
Mrs. Swackhamer was a homemaker. She worked for Lord Corp. for seven years starting in 1975.
She was a member of American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary in Cambridge Springs and VFW Post 169 Auxiliary in Venango, Crawford County. She enjoyed fishing and camping.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Black, and a brother, Harold Shunk.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald E. Swackhamer, whom she marriage March 31, 1966; two sons, Edward Black of Saegertown and Wayne Black of Venango; a stepson, Frederick John Shunk of Belmont, Ariz.; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Dan (Jo Ellen) Bergeron of Morgan City, La., Mrs. Paul (Terri Anne) Jenkins of Lafayette, La., Mrs. Lori Anne Horning of Gulfport, Miss., and Mrs. Andrew (Denna Sue) Remaro of Baton Rouge, La.; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Marie) Black Jr. of Cambridge Springs; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 335 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until the time of the service there at 8 p.m.
Burial will be at Venango Cemetery.

Gertrude Lutz Reinsel
CLARION - Gertrude Catherine Lutz Reinsel, 91, of Strattanville, Clarion County, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Clarion Hospital.
She was born Sept. 6, 1906, in Lucinda, Clarion County, daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Moore Lutz.
Mrs. Reinsel was a homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Reinsel, on Feb. 26, 1983; they were marriage July 24, 1945.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Charles Reinsel; a daughter, Rita Spangler; a granddaughter, Tina McDevitt; a great-grandson, a great-granddaughter, five brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Sister Carolyn Reinsel of Erie and Mrs. Robert (Grace) McDevitt of Strattanville; a son, Gerald "Hap" Reinsel of Strattanville; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. A service will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion on Friday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Brian Vosler.
Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Virginia Schrock Heynoski
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Virginia Schrock Heynoski, 90, of 3760 Baymar Drive, Youngstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1907, in St. George, W.Va., daughter of the late Harvey and Emma Felton Schrock.
Mrs. Heynoski moved from Erie to Youngstown in 1997 to live with her niece, Mrs. Georgalene Jacobson. While living in Erie she was a social worker at the Rape Crisis Center. She was a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Heynoski, on Nov. 18, 1962; a son, Andrew Lapinski; two brothers, Carl and Paul Schrock; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Kumpula.
In addition to her niece, survivors include a brother, John Schrock of Charleroi, Washington County; and two sisters, Mrs. Pauline McGough of Youngstown and Nell Schrock of Cleveland, Ohio.
A private memorial service will be held later.
McCauley Funeral Home, 230 Broadway, Youngstown, handled arrangements.

V. Mabelle Reno Lawrence
ELLWOOD CITY - V. Mabelle Reno Lawrence, 91, of 10250 Bedford Road, Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Erie, died at her home Tuesday evening, Jan. 20, 1998, after a short illness.
She was born June 27, 1906, in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Ellis C. and Margaret Thompson Reno.
While living in Erie, Mrs. Lawrence was a self-employed beautician. She was a member of Spring Hill Bible Church in Florida.
She is survived by her husband, Howard C. Lawrence, whom she marriage Feb. 3, 1943; a son, Donald P. Truby of California and his wife, Donna; and three grandchildren, Donald P. Truby Jr., Penny Diaz and Patricia Smith.
Friends may call at Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City, Lawrence County, on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the procession to Harmony Baptist Church in New Castle. The service will be held at the church at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Wayne King, a retired Presbyterian minister.
Burial will be at Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Spring Hill Bible Church, 1244 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, FLA 34609.
