Obituaries by LocationHelen D. Borzik Albright
Helen D. Borzik Albright, 85, of 160 W. 8th St., died on Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Hamot Medical Center.
She was born on May 8, 1912, in Briar Hill, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and May Streblak Borzik.
An Erie resident since 1980, Mrs. Albright had been a member of the Rebekah Lodge and a volunteer worker for the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eugene H. Albright, on Nov. 28, 1994; a son, Thomas E. Albright; three sisters, Mary Ceccarelli, Mildred Lynch and Margaret Miller.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Vaughn and her husband, James, and Candy Kennedy and her husband, Michael, all of Erie; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend a memorial Mass at St. Peter Cathedral on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Burial wiil be at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by the John Mark Gannon Funeral Home, 2505 Powell Ave.

Agnes P. Peterman
Agnes P. "Bunny" Peterman, 76, died on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.
She was born in Braddock, Pa., on May 9, 1921.
Mrs. Peterman was the former manager of the Dixie Hat Shop and was a past senior regent for Chapter 269 Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Frank Ganzer, Frank Grucza and August Peterman.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Thomas M. Boyd III of Erie and his wife, Becky; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Longstreet of Erie and her husband, Marc; one brother, Joseph Banister of Akron, Ohio, and his wife, Patricia; her former husband, Thomas Boyd II; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Chester S. Schaal Funeral Home, 550 W. 9th St., on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of a service there at noon. The Rev. Kevin Taylor of First Assembly of God Church will officiate.
Burial will be private.

Raymond T. Sires
FRANKLIN - Raymond T. "Ted" Sires, 48, of Utica, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center's Franklin Campus.
He was born in Franklin on Oct. 11, 1949, a son of George E. and Helen Runninger Sires of Franklin.
Mr. Sires was a truck driver and had worked at W.L. Dunn of Cochranton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Ehlers Sires; and two brothers, Steven Sires and George E. "Mike" Sires Jr.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Jacqueline; a son, Raymond T. Sires Jr. of Utica; a daughter, Heather Reed of Utica; a stepson, Scott Reed of Utica; a stepdaughter, Kristie Reed of Franklin; a grandson, Austin Clark; three brothers, Richard and Thomas Sires, both of Utica, and Ronald Sires of Franklin; and two sisters, Mrs. Gene (Helen) Goldenberg of Franklin and Mrs. Ed (Cathy) Mattocks of Utica.
Friends may call at the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park, Franklin, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert L. Goodnough, pastor of Lupher Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Lupher Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Utica Volunteer Fire Department.

Jerome Patrick Higgins Sr.
CONNEAUT, Ohio - Jerome Patrick Higgins Sr., 76, Portland, Ore., died in Portland on Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, of complications following heart surgery.
He was born in Conneaut, Ohio, July 1, 1921.
He was active in sports at Conneaut High School and later at John Carroll University in Cleveland, where he played football and was the university's lightweight boxing champion.
Mr. Higgins interrupted his studies to serve in the Army Air Force in the Philippines during World War II.
He graduated from John Carroll in 1947 with a degree in business administration.
He marriage Margaret Ann Collins in 1948. They lived in Cleveland and later in North Canton, Ohio, where he owned his own medical management consulting firm. Margaret Collins Higgins died in 1976, after which Mr. Higgins moved to Oregon.
Mr. Higgins was of the Roman Catholic faith.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Loewell.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Jean Wyman, whom he marriage in 1983; a daughter, Catherine (Katie) Pelosi of Portland; seven sons, Jerry, Dan, Bart and Billy Higgins, all of Portland, Kevin of Chicago, Ill., Barney of Bellingham, Wash., and Tom of Geneva, Ohio; a sister, Leona Fannin of Bristol, Pa.; three brothers, Bernie, Jack and Romain Higgins, all of Conneaut; and 18 grandchildren.
Burial was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in Conneaut Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Smith Funeral Home, Conneaut.

Benjamin Michael VanderWeele
Benjamin Michael VanderWeele, infant son of Capt. Dr. Richard A. and Kelly J. Mitchell VanderWeele, stationed at Lajes Field Air Base, Terceira, Azores Islands, Portugal, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998.
He was born in Portugal on Jan. 11, 1998.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, David and Nancy Mitchell of Corry; his paternal grandparents, Dr. Alan and Lois VanderWeele of Corry; his paternal great-grandfather, Gilbert Batten of North East; his maternal great-grandparents, Gust and Effie Litke of Morrisdale, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held for the family, with the Rev. Russell D. Hines, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry.
The Bracken Funeral Home, Corry, is handling arrangements.

Mary Lou Nelson Bailey
Mary Lou Nelson Bailey, 63, 570 Liberty St., Corry, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her residence.
She was born in Corry on March 13, 1934, daughter of the late Harry D. and Gertrude M. Lee Nelson.
Mrs. Bailey was raised and educated in the Corry area, graduating from Corry High School in 1952. She had worked as a secretary at Aero Supply in Corry for several years, and at several other companies in the Corry and Union City areas. She recently worked at Erie County Plastics for 16 years and retired in 1989.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Corry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 264, and enjoyed bowling, bingo and watching football.
She was preceded in death on March 4, 1996, by her husband, Michael M. Bailey, whom she marriage on Dec. 17, 1955, in Clymer, N.Y. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Upperman in 1993 and Alberta VanWinkle in 1995; and a brother, Robert Nelson in 1951.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Paul (Mischelle) Patterson of Corry, Mrs. Stephen (Melinda) Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ms. Kayla Shearer of Brownstown, Mich., Mrs. Timothy (Marsha) Bobseine of Cuba, N.Y., and Ms. Mari Lee Bailey of Corry; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Connie) Goodwill of Waterford and Gertrude Williams of Corry; four brothers, Edward Nelson and his wife, Ruby, and Donald Nelson and his wife, Lucy, all of Columbus, Pa., Harry Nelson and his wife, Phyllis, and James Nelson, all of Corry; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Saturday at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ralph Jones, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Corry.
Burial will be in the Lutheran section of Pine Grove Cemetery in Corry.
Memorials may be made to the Erie County Diabetes Association, 3850 Walker Blvd., Erie, Pa. 16509; or the American Heart Association, Western Pennsylvania District, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, Pa. 16505.

Gertrude Haggerty Coe
Gertrude Haggerty Coe, 95, formerly of the Regency at Washington Place, died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at St. Mary's Home.
She was born in Erie on March 8, 1902, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary Lennertz Haggerty.
She was a graduate of Saint Vincent School of Nursing and was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association through Saint Vincent Hospital.
She was a long-time resident of Ft. Pierce, Fla., before returning to Erie.
She was an active member of her church in Florida. In Erie, she was a member of St. Julia Church and a volunteer for St. Joseph's Orphanage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Coe; and three brothers, Mark, Edward and Clayton Haggerty.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, including John Haggerty of Cookville, Tenn., William and Michael Haggerty and Carol Semrau, all of Erie, Phillip Haggerty of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Edie Offhaus of Buffalo, N.Y.
Friends may attend a funeral Mass on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Julia Church, 638 Roslyn Ave., and then call at the Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3816 West Lake Road, from noon until 2 p.m.
Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Russell R. Shreve
Russell R. Shreve, 74, of Route 6, Union City, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Metro Health Center.
He was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Union City, son of the late Hobart and Dorothy Warner Shreve.
Mr. Shreve worked in the family business, W.H. Shreve and Son Dairy, and later became a heavy equipment contractor, retiring due to ill health. He specialized in soil conservation projects and construction of ponds and golf courses. He was a member of the Land Improvement Contractors of America.
Mr. Shreve owned several teams of Belgian horses and enjoyed taking horse-and-buggy rides. He hitched his Amish horses to a restored doctor's buggy or a two-seater. He traveled widely to horse-pulling shows.
He was affiliated with New Ireland United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by an infant twin daughter, Beryl Annette Shreve, in 1948; and a brother, Robert N. Shreve, in 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois Warner Shreve, whom he marriage June 15, 1945; three daughters, Sheryl Rejzer and Jeanette Reynolds and her husband, Blane, all of Union City; a daughter, Carrie Welch and her husband, Joe, of Waterford; a son, Burt Shreve and his wife, Ginny, of Union City; a sister, Erma Jean Gerdon of Venango, Crawford County; and nine grandchildren, Bryan Rejzer, Megan and Brent Reynolds, Jeremy, Kyle, Julie and Katie Shreve and Travis and Taylor Welch.
Friends may call at Glenn Funeral Home, 62 South Main St., Union CIty, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Saturday at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. William Sturdevant and the Rev. Betty Roach of New Ireland United Methodist Church.
Burial will be at West Union Cemetery.
