Louis C. Szabo
Louis C. Szabo, 61, of E. 7th Street, died at his home Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, 1998.
He was born July 12, 1936, in Acs, Hungary, son of the late John and Maria Simonics Szabo.
Mr. Szabo owned Colonial Bakery from 1990-97. He also worked for General Electric Co. as an electrician for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
Mr. Szabo was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church. He was a member of the Slovak National Club and was active in Erie's Hungarian community. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen and John Szabo, and a sister, Rose Feher.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Kieklak Szabo; a son, Louis M. Szabo of Erie; a daughter, Julia L. Tomczak of Vineland, N.J.; a brother, Frank Szabo of Budapest, Hungary; a sister, Julia Kocsis of Sokolov, Czech Republic; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Mark G. Razanauskas Funeral Home, 701 East Ave., Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held there Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Casimir Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

Jeanette Musica DeJohn
MEADVILLE - Jeanette Musica DeJohn, 85, RD 10 Liberty Street Extension, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Hamot Medical Center.
Born Jan. 1, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Carmella DeMatteo Musica. She was a crossing guard for 14 years in the Meadville area until her retirement in 1973. She had previously worked at the former Talon, Inc., W.T. Grant Co. and Woolworth's. As a teenager, she had managed her parents' grocery store.
Mrs. DeJohn was a member and past promoter of St. Mary's Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Columbia No. 2, and the Italian Civic Club Auxiliary. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church and the original St. Mary's Choir. She enjoyed music and cooking.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carmella Jean; two brothers, Louis and Dominic Musica; and a sister, Mary Cremonese.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Say and her husband Robert, Carmella Jean Bullock and Andrea Manuel, all of Meadville; a son, Anthony DeJohn of Erie; 10 grandchildren, J. Christopher, Mark, Gina, Matt, Michael, Christianne, Mike, Andy, Melissa Jeanette and Steve; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Byham-Miller-Mizner Funeral Home, Inc., 404 Chestnut, Meadville, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Friday at 10 a.m. Msgr. Casimir Bogniak, pastor of St. Mary's, will officiate.
Burial will be at St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township.
Memorials may be made to the family for their choice of charity.

Isabel Davidson Foley
Isabel Davidson Foley, 78, formerly of Tannery Road, Girard, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Integrated Health Services at Bayside in Erie following a brief illness.
She was born in Cadogan, Pa., on Sept. 8, 1919, daughter of the late Mark Davidson and Edna Snyder Davidson Sheets.
Foley was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Foley, in September 1979.
She is survived by a brother, Mark Davidson of Billerica, Mass.; a sister, Elaine Carlson of Kersey, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Robert A. Jaworowicz Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Friday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Girard Cemetery.

Hazel Otteni Platz
Hazel M. Otteni Platz, 91, of Bear Creek Road, Fairview, died on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.
She was born in Erie on Feb. 28, 1906, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna Bolte Otteni.
She had been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church many years ago.
She enjoyed gardening, farming, knitting, crocheting and playing euchre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer H. Platz; five brothers, Robert, Roy, James, Norman and Frank Otteni; and two sisters, Inez Jackson and Ruth Wurst.
Survivors include one son, Joseph Platz of Cranesville and his wife, "Pinky"; a daughter, JoAnn Sturdivant of Fairview and her husband, Robert; four grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Platz, Rodney Sturdivant and Gail VanCise; two sisters, Thora Wurst and Susan Roesch, both of Erie; and four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 7463 Main St., Fairview on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Charles Cammarata will officiate.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to West County Paramedics, 6852 Meadville Road, Girard, Pa. 16417.

Floyd R. Sitter
Floyd R. Sitter, 77, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center following an extended illness.
He was born in Erie on Aug. 10, 1920, a son of the late John B. and Thresa Vogt Sitter.
Mr. Sitter attended Erie Tech High School and had been a tool maker at Teledyne Penn-Union and head mechanic at Tom McCabe for more than 30 years. He trained vocational students in auto mechanics, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude V. Sitter, whom he marriage Oct. 20, 1940; two daughters, Maryellen Hannold and her husband, Darrell, and Linda Slawson and her husband, John, all of Erie; a son, David Sitter and his wife, Virginia, of Harborcreek; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend a service Thursday at 10 a.m. at Zion's Lutheran Church, 735 Brown Ave., with the Rev. Robert M. White officiating.
Burial will be at Valley Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, 643 W. 17th, Erie, Pa. 16502.
The Burton Funeral Home, 3816 West Lake Road, handled arrangements.

Dorothy Elizabeth Schoenfield
Dorothy Elizabeth Schoenfield, 97, Presbyterian Lodge, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at her home.
She had been a resident of the Lodge for many years, having moved from the family home at 447 Kahkwa Blvd.
Born in Erie on Nov. 12, 1900, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Katherine Bauschard Schoenfield.
She graduated from Erie Central High School in 1918 and City Normal School in 1920, where she was in a class of 12. She studied briefly at the University of Wisconsin and studied voice at the old Erie Conservatory of Music.
Miss Schoenfield taught in Erie public schools for 46 years, primarily at Marshall School and Perry Middle School. She was an art counselor at several summer camps when not teaching. She was active in St. Luke Church and was a member of Community United Church at the time of her death.
She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma and the Woman's Club of Erie.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Philip Schoenfield of Dallas, and a sister, Lenora L. Schoenfield.
Survivors include a niece, Kathryn Carol Schoenfield, and a nephew, William P. Schoenfield Jr.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St., Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and may attend a service there Thursday at 2 p.m.
Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be made to the organ fund at Community United Church, 1011 W. 38th St., Erie, Pa. 16508.

Sister Josina Boyersmith
Sister Josina Boyersmith, SSJ, 83, of the Villa Maria Community Living Center, 5031 W. Ridge Road, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at the Community Living Center.
She was born in Meadville, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Beierschmitt Boyersmith.
She was in her 63rd year of religious life. Sister Josina entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph from St. Agatha Parish in Meadville in 1934 and made her Diamond Jubilee in 1994.
A graduate of Meadville High School and a student at Villa Maria College, she served as housemother and dining room supervisor at St. Joseph's Home for Children for eight years. She also served as housekeeper and supply clerk at St. Mark's Seminary and St. Mary's Home for more than 54 years, retiring in 1994 to the Community Living Center, where she continued to do ministry.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Lawrence Boyersmith.
Survivors include a brother, Paul Boyersmith of Meadville; many nieces and nephews; and her religious family.
Friends may call at the Villa Maria Community Living Center Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of a prayer service at 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of a Mass of Christian burial in the center's chapel at 4:30 p.m.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Sisters of Saint Joseph Community Support Fund, 5031 W. Ridge Road, Erie, Pa. 16506.
The Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, West 25th and Sassafras streets, is in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas L. Turner Jr.
GREENSBURG, Pa. - Thomas L. Turner Jr., 72, of Erie, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born in New Salem, Pa., on Dec. 26, 1925, son of the late Kathleen Harvey Turner and Thomas L. Turner Sr.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
A former Greensburg resident, he had been the owner of Turner Office Equipment in Latrobe.
Mr. Turner was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and the B.P.O.E. No. 511, both of Greensburg.
Survivors include his wife, Helen A. Turner; a daughter, Kathleen Costanzo and her husband, Michael, of Jersey City, N.J.; a son, Thomas H. Turner, M.D., and his wife, Debbie, of Fairview; a granddaughter, Rebecca Turner; and a sister, Jean Christopher and her husband, Walter, of Prosperity, Pa.
Friends may call at the Bacha Funeral Home, 516 Stanton St., Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Entombment will be at the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania, 2703 Ash St., Erie, Pa. 16504.
