Richard A. Eagan, 69, 3911 McClelland Ave., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Oil City on Nov. 25, 1928, son of the late Patrick and Susan Monighan Eagan.
He attended St. Joseph Grade School and St. Joseph High School in Oil City.
Mr. Eagan was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Pennzoil and in his family's grocery store in Oil City. After moving to Erie he worked in the receiving department at American Hollow Boring, from which he retired in 1993.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, and for 45 years he belonged to the Oil City Knights of Columbus Council 385.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Robert, Thomas and Eugene Eagan.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Froncek Eagan; a daughter, Karen Eirich and her husband, Allen, of Erie; a son, Kevin Eagan and his wife, Christine, of Lake City; two sisters, Mary Hovis and her husband, James, of York, and Virginia Hickey of Erie; a brother, James Eagan of Huntington, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Melinda and Harley Eirich, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Libery streets, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A prayer service will be held there at 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1553 E. Grandview Blvd., at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of Western Pennsylvania, 2 Gateway Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.

Julia Frankovits
Julia Frankovits, 101, of Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, 2214 Sassafras St., died at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998.
She was born in New York City on July 10, 1896, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Frankovits.
She was a former resident of Bayonne, N.J. She was employed as an executive secretary at the Victor Blata Textile Co. in New York.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Griffin and Elizabeth McKay, and by a brother-in-law, Michael J. Griffin, former city commissioner and assistant to the mayor of Bayonne, N.J.
Survivors include a nephew, Michael Griffin of Erie; and four great-nieces, Mrs. Vernon (Kathleen) Griffin-Peterson, Marguerite Griffin and Mrs. Richard (Grace) Perhacs, all of Erie, and Elizabeth Daley of Colorado Springs.
Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.
The Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, West 25th and Sassafras streets, is handling arrangements.

Lloyd H. Whitman
Lloyd H. Whitman, 88, 439 Shady Ave., Corry, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at his residence.
He was born in Centerville, Pa., on Aug. 27, 1909, son of the late Arch and Lillie Mae Culver Whitman.
Whitman was raised and educated in Centerville. He also lived in Spring Creek, Pa., and East Branch, Pa., prior to moving to Corry. He had worked in auto body repair for several local businesses, including Turbine Chevy, Crotty Ferrando, Vernon Motors and Marty's Garage, from where he retired in 1975.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 365 in Corry and the Corry Central Labor Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening.
He was preceded in death on April 18, 1984, by his wife, Ethel Sterling Whitman, whom he marriage in Titusville in September 1977. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene McChesney, and a brother, Charles Whitman.
He is survived by a son, Lloyd H. Whitman Jr. of Corry and his wife, Darlene; two sisters, Mae Crisman of Titusville and Edna Sickler of Erie; two grandchildren, Kiel and Kayce Whitman; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home in Corry on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Paul E. Wilson Sr., pastor of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Corry.

Leonard M. Wetzel
Leonard M. "Red" Wetzel, 88, 641 Troupe Road, Harborcreek, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Hamot Medical Center.
Mr. Wetzel was born Nov. 11, 1909, in Buffalo, N.Y., son of the late Leonard and Margaret Hintermier Wetzel. In his youth, he was an avid baseball player.
He owned and operated Wetzel Stump Removal and operated a Texaco service station at 5681 E. Lake Road. He was retired from GE, where he had been a foreman, and was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
Mr. Wetzel belonged to the Moniuszko Singing Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Tallmadge Wetzel, in 1991; and by his brother, Clifford Taylor.
Surviving are a son, Richard C. Wetzel and his wife, Nancy, of Erie; two daughters, Joanne Snyder and her husband, Robert, of Erie and Judith Noble and her husband, Charles, of Findley Lake, N.Y.; a brother, Niles Taylor and his wife, Harriet, of Jensen Beach, Fla.; a sister, Marcia Loper of Pinnelas Park, Fla.; a sister-in-law, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Chester S. Schaal Funeral Home, 550 W. 9th St., Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and attend a service there Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Gerald T. Ritchie, pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, will officiate.
Burial will be at Valley Cemetery in McKean.

Helen Taft Waid
Helen I. Taft Waid, 82, of Pleasant Ridge Manor, Girard, formerly of Huntley Road, West Springfield, died on Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998.
Mrs. Waid was born in Pennline, Pa., on Oct. 26, 1916, the daughter of the late Wood B. and Eva Fails Taft.
She had worked for several years as a nurse's aide at Pleasant Ridge Manor when it was knwon as the Erie County Home. She previously worked for the Girard Model Works.
She was a member of the Federated Church and was the founder of the Rebekkah Lodge 96 in East Springfield. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She was preceded in death on Feb. 23, 1986, by her husband of 52 years, Ivan M. Waid; by four brothers, Bill, Don, John and Gaylord Taft; and a sister, Esther English.
She is survived by a son, Frederick Lloyd Waid of East Springfield; a daughter, Lois Robison of West Springfield; three sisters, Marguerite Fails, Nora Fails and Bertha Sheldon, all of Conneaut, Ohio; and by eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main St., East Springfield, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend services there on Thursday at 1 p.m., with Pastor Ed Huntley of the Federated Church of East Springfield officiating.
Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield.

Rose Frontino Sweeney
Rose M. Frontino Sweeny, 81, of 1228 E. 30th, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
She was born in North East on Oct. 22, 1916, the daughter of the late Louis and Jennie Vilardo Frontino. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the parish Happy People Club.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Frontino.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Arthur N. Sweeney; two daughters, Mrs. John (Cecelia) Begandi of Lake City and Mrs. Rose Catlin of Erie; one son, William Sweeney and his wife, Christine, of Erie; five sisters, Lorraine Bruschi, Connie Bufflari, Jeanette Walker, Marian Soeder and Amy Federicci, all of Erie; two brothers, James Frontino of North East and Seiro Frontino of Erie; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the A. Brugger & Sons Funeral Home, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th, Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church.
Burial will be at St. Gregory Cemetery in North East.

Paul R. Hobeck
Paul R. Hobeck, 58, a resident of El Paso, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at El Paso, Texas Medical Center.
He was born in Erie, June 28, 1939, a son of Frances Izbicki Hobeck Rogers of Erie and the late Joseph P. Hobeck.
Mr. Hobeck graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Erie, Cathedral Prep High School and Gannon University. He served in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a photographic technologist for the director of information at White Sands in New Mexico for over 30 years.
In addition to his mother survivors include two daughters, Laura Hobeck Alva and Alma Hobeck, both of El Paso; two grandchildren, Kikmberly Hobeck and Jacob Alva, both of El Paso; a sister, Frances M. Salorino of Erie; a brother, Joseph C. Hobeck of San Francisco, Calif.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home, El Paso. Burial with full military honors will be at Veterans Cemetery in El Paso.
The Carl A. Slomski and Son Funeral Home, E. 21st and Ash streets, provided information.

George Ludzik
George Ludzik, 80, formerly of South Hill Road, McKean, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.
Born in McKees Rocks, Pa., on April 6, 1917, he was the son of the late Michael and Julianna Spontak Ludzik.
He was a dairy farmer in McKean until he retired. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Neszpaul and Elizabeth Ferrick.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Keast of Campbell, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
No calling hours will be observed.
Friends are invited to the Requiem of Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Church, 1115 East Ave., Wednesday at 1 p.m., with the Very Rev. Msgr. Ronald A. Hazuda officiating.
Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery.
The Brugger Home for Funerals, West 38th Street and Greengarden Boulevard, is in charge of arrangements.
