Obituaries by LocationStella B. Neil
Stella B. Neil, 91, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 526 South Second Street, died Thursday, Nov. 30 at her residence.
Born March 21, 1909 in Maple Grove, she was the daughter of the late Grover R. and Cora B. Foltz Umberhocker. She was widowed.
Mrs. Neil was a homemaker. She had at one time been employed by the former H.J. Heinz Co. and the former Interwoven Co., both of Chambersburg. She had also worked at the former Shirt Craft Co. in Shippensburg.
Mrs. Neil was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
She is survived by two sons, Paul E. Hoch and Dennis M. Neil; one daughter, Joyce Hoch Summers; and one sister, Isabelle S. Winters. Also surviving are two granddaughters and one grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles M. Hoch, who died June 12, 1952; and her second husband, Milo L. Neil, who died in 1969.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 4 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray L. Kauffman officiating. Interment was in Upper Strasburg Methodist Cemetery in Upper Strasburg.

Thelma E. Hamilton
Thelma E. Hamilton, 87, of 5300 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 4 at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.
Born Dec. 13, 1912 in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late Clyde E. and Helen M. Geiger Shank. She marriage Thomas Lowson on Sept. 16, 1933. Mr. Lowson died on Jan. 11, 1941. She then marriage Albert E. Hamilton on Jan. 23, 1943. Mr. Hamilton died on Jan. 27, 1990.
Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the National A.A.R.P., the Golden Opportunity Club, the Golden Age Club and the Chambersburg Senior Center. She was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mont Alto.
Surviving are a son, Thomas Lowson Jr. of Mont Alto; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lowson was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, from the Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, with Rev. Robert L. Basom officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, near Chambersburg.
Friends may call Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 339, Mont Alto, Pa. 17237.

David S. Shauf Sr.
David S. Shauf Sr., 70, 1243 Cider Press Road, Chambersburg, died Monday, April 2 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1930 in Everett, Pa., he was the son of the late William A. and Fannie Meck Shauf. He was marriage to Jane Peters Shauf on July 14, 1951.
Mr. Shauf was a mechanic with Knouse Foods in Chambersburg for forty years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Hume-McNeal-Byers Amvets Post No. 224, Chambersburg. He enjoyed gardening and hunting.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, David S. Shauf Jr. and Daniel S. Shauf, both of Orrstown, Dennis L. Shauf of Fayetteville and Donald R. Shauf of Chambersburg; three daughters, Mary Lane and Beverly Beck, both of Fayetteville, and Vickie L. Morrison of Greencastle; three brothers, Charles Shauf of New York; Walter Shauf of Fayetteville and Charles Glen Shauf of Greencastle; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, David C. “Pete” Shauf of Shippensburg, whom Mr. and Mrs. Shauf raised. He was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with Rev. George Strayer officiating. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Doris M. “Honey” McConaghy
Doris M. “Honey” McConaghy, 86, of Germantown, Md. and formerly of Ohio Avenue, Chambersburg, died Friday, March 30 at the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, Md. after a brief illness.
Born May 27, 1914 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Joshua and Mae Stokes Fernald. She was marriage to Edward McConaghy, who died June 20, 1984.
She moved from Chambersburg to Germantown, Md. in 1989. While living in Chambersburg, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a Gray Lady in Chambersburg with the American Red Cross and a member of the Chambersburg Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She had been employed at Worth’s Store, South Main Street, Chambersburg, for 29 years, retiring as manager.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris M. McCleary of Germantown, Md. and Barbara Elaine McConaghy of Herndon, Va.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, with Rev. Dr. Neal O. Hively officiating. Interment will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 225 E. King Street, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
Edgar Clair Wrights
Edgar Clair Wrights, 98, a resident of Caledonia Manor in Fayetteville and formerly of Upper Strasburg, died Thursday, March 29 in Caledonia Manor in Chambersburg.
Born April 24, 1902 in Maple Grove, he was the son of the late John and Mary Hammond Wrights. His wife Alice Ritter Wrights died Sept. 7, 1977.
Mr. Wrights had farmed all of his life. He last farmed in the Orrstown area. He was a member of the Fayetteville Church of God.
He is survived by one brother, James Wrights of Edenville. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 2 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home with the Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. officiating. Interment was in Upper Strasburg Methodist Cemetery in Upper Strasburg.

Grace C. McKnight
Grace C. McKnight, 82, a resident of Shook Home, Chambersburg, formerly of 1015 Elevator Street, Scotland, died Friday, March 30 at the her residence.
Born Feb. 16, 1919 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Andrew F. Sr.and Mabel Irvin Peters. She was marriage to Clyde M. “Mike” McKnight, who died July 18, 2000.
She was employed with the former Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown, Md., for many years. Mrs. McKnight was of the Catholic faith. She was a long-time member of the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and was a gift shop volunteer. A gifted artist, she enjoyed painting. She also had enjoyed golf earlier in her life.
Surviving are three sisters, Linda Zullinger and Jane McClelland, both of Chambersburg, and Louise McLanahan of Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 3 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, with Monsignor Thomas R. Brenner and Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment was in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Jacs M. Dymond
Jacs M. Dymond, 76, 25 Cambridge Lane, Chambersburg, died Friday, March 30 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 15, 1924 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Hart M. and Mildred C. Beck Dymond.
Mr. Dymond was a 1942 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He was employed as a mail carrier with the Chambersburg Post Office, retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW and its 40 et 8 club; Burt J. Asper Post No. 46 American Legion, B.P.O. Elks No. 600, Marine Corps League, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 842 and the Chambersburg Club, all of Chambersburg. He enjoyed flying.
Surviving are a daughter, Cyndie Dymond, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a stepson, Terry Mish, San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Joy Harrington, York; a sister-in-law Kathryn I. Dymond of Fayetteville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother Hart M. Dymond Jr. in 1996.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 3 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment was in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Military graveside service was conducted by the members of the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
James E. Remmel Jr.
James E. Remmel Jr., 70, 2045 Edgewood Road, Chambersburg, died Friday, March 30 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Born Oct. 28, 1930 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late James E. and Etta Snyder Remmel. He was marriage to Martha Minehart Remmel, who died Feb. 3, 1993.
He was a 1948 graduate of the Chambersburg High School, Chambersburg, and had attended the former Shippensburg State Teacher’s College, Shippensburg.
Mr. Remmel was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, until retirement on May 18, 1987. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Antietam. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
He was also a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW, Burt J. Asper Post No. 46 American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees No. 1063, all of Chambersburg; and the National AARP. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his son James M. Remmel of Biglerville; and daughter, Michelle K. Remmel of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 3 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with Rev. Trevor E. Rosenberry officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hall Cemetery, Pleasant Hall. Military graveside service was conducted by members of the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Franklin/Fulton Division, 225 East King Street, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or the American Diabetes Association, Franklin Co. Chapter, c/o Mrs. Doris J. Goetz, 219 West Second St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Thomas H. Pitchford
Thomas H. Pitchford, 92, 264 Bear Valley Road, Ft. Loudon, died Tuesday July 31 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 24, 1907 in Colorado, he was the son of the late William Pitchford. He marriage Thelma Reedy Pitchford who died on Feb. 23, 1973.
Mr. Pitchford had the "Rusty D" ranch in St. Thomas for 10 years. He then owned and operated Rusty's Antiques in Ft. Loudon for 20 years. He also did clock repair.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty L. Gary of Ft. Loudon and Dolores Epstein of Chambersburg; five grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, William H. Pitchford in 1990 and a brother, William.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 3 at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with Rev. Robert E. Taylor officiating. Interment was in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas.
Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
