Doris M. Willman, 76, a resident of Penn Hall, Chambersburg, formerly of 982 South Fifth Street, Chambersburg, died Friday, June 8 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 14, 1925 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Flossie Ecton Metz. She was marriage to Harold F. Willman on Aug. 20, 1950.
Mrs. Willman was a 1942 graduate of the Chambersburg High School, Chambersburg. She was a bookkeeper for Franklin County Vo-Tech School, Chambersburg, from 1969 until she retired in 1980. Prior to working at the school, she had been employed from 1942 until 1957 in the Ammunition Division Office at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg.
She was a member of Zion Reformed Church, Chambersburg, where she had been a member of the Women’s Circle and the church choir. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Franklin County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. She was also a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1063, Charles Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Burt J. Asper Post No. 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, AARP Chapter 2840, member and past president (from 1997-1999) of the Chambersburg Garden Club, all of Chambersburg. Mrs. Willman enjoyed gardening and needlepoint.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a son, Todd F. Willman of Chambersburg; a sister, Virginia Tarner of Chambersburg; a step-granddaughter; and two step-grandsons.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 12 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller and Rev. Robert Dean Morrison officiating. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Elizabeth M. “Bet” McCleary Monn
Elizabeth M. “Bet” McCleary Monn, 80, Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, formerly of 444 Broad Street, Chambersburg, died Monday, June 11 at her residence.
Born Aug. 21, 1920 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Elizabeth Cunningham Kump. She was marriage to Lester E. McCleary, who died in 1969. Her second husband, James D. Monn, died in 1998.
Mrs. Monn graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1940. She was a waitress at Frank’s Pizza. She had also been employed at Maria’s Hoagie Shop, Knouse Food, Sears, Corning, Hollander Auto, J.J. Newberrys and F. W. Woolworth's. She attended New Franklin Assembly of God Church in Chambersburg.
Surviving are a daughter, Connie E. Kaiser of Chambersburg; two sons, Stephen L. McCleary and S. Michael McCleary, both of Chambersburg; two sisters, Gertrude Zeger of St. Thomas and Wilda Senseny of Sebring, Fla.; nine stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; 34 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 49 step-great-grandchildren and eight step-great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Monn was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14 at the New Franklin Assembly of God Church, 2355 New Franklin Road, Chambersburg. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Friends may call Thursday, June 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

F. Rosalie Stevens
F. Rosalie Stevens, 85, 710 Hamilton Street, Carlisle, formerly of Fayetteville, died Friday, June 8 at the Carlisle Hospital in Carlisle.
Born Oct. 26, 1915 in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late James Clark and Margaret Jane Heckman McClure. She was marriage to Merle W. Stevens, who died in March 1959.
Mrs. Stevens was a house mother at Scotland School for Veterans’ Children in Scotland. She retired in 1978.
She was a member of Fayetteville Church of God in Fayetteville. She was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Chambersburg.
Mrs. Stevens is survived by a son, Richard A. Twaddle of Carlisle; six sisters, Mary L. Piper, T. Jean Powell and Lois C. Kramer, all of Fayetteville, Annabelle Smetzer of Waynesboro, Dora E. Deardorff of Cashtown and Margie A. Wile of Scotland; and two brothers, Charles G. McClure and Robert F. McClure, both of Fayetteville.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James C. McClure II in February 2001.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 13 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. officiating. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Fred D. Johnston Sr.
Fred D. Johnston Sr., 86, of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, and formerly of 765 Blanchard Avenue, Chambersburg, died Thursday, June 7 at his residence.
Born April 23, 1915 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Grover and Bertha S. Meyers Johnston. He was marriage to Mary Jane Nitterhouse Johnston on Nov. 14, 1936. Mrs. Johnston died Jan. 21, 1986.
Mr. Johnston was a 1935 graduate of the Waynesboro High School, Waynesboro, where he played as guard on the school basketball team.
Mr. Johnston had been employed as a Boring Mill Operator at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro. He later worked at Nitterhouse Concrete Products, Chambersburg until his retirement in 1977.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Marines, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II.
Mr. Johnston was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. He excelled in all sports during and after his time in high school. He was captain of the former Waynesboro Wahian's football team and played as quarterback and halfback.
In his younger days he enjoyed archery, golf and hunting. He also enjoyed helping other people and can be remembered as a honest man of high integrity and a kind and gentle spirit.
Mr. Johnston was a life member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W. and B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 600, both of Chambersburg. He had been named "Elk of the Year" numerous times.
Surviving is a daughter, Sharan K. Carbaugh of Chambersburg; a son Daniel Johnston of Chambersburg; a sister Wilma Stephey of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Armatha Ludwig and Louella Richardson; and one brother, John Johnston.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 9 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home. The Rev. David L. Keener officiated. Military Graveside Service at Parklawns Memorial Gardens was conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W. Honor Guard.
Members of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 600 conducted a service Friday evening at the funeral home.

George E. Murray
George E. Murray, 69, of 527 S. Fourth Street, Chambersburg, died Wednesday, June 6 at his home.
Born Nov. 29, 1931 in Fort Loudon he was the son of the late Charles W. and Emma Jane Yeager Murray. He was marriage to Carol Ann Lawyer on April 8, 1956.
Mr. Murray served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a woodworker. He worked for the H.J. Heinz Co. prior to going to Letterkenny Army Depot, where he worked until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Murray attended the Chambersburg Open Door Church. He was a life member of the Goodwill Fire Co. in Chambersburg, Amvets Post 224 (life member), Wesley Yeager Post 606 American Legion in Fort Louden, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion in Chambersburg, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W. in Chambersburg, Loyal Order of Moose 842 in Chambersburg and the A.A.R.P.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cindy Diane Piper of Chambersburg; two sons, Michael Shae Murray, and George Matthew Murray both of Chambersburg; two brothers, Garnet Yeager of Norristown, and Fred Murray of St. Thomas; two sisters, Pauline Hammond of Fannettsburg and Patsy Cline of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 9, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Rev. Arthur Brown and Rev. Daniel Kelchner officiated. Interment was in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 Honor Guard conducted graveside services.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg; or to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
Jeremiah H. "Jere" Mentzer
Jeremiah H. "Jere" Mentzer, 72, 1370 Third Avenue, Chambersburg, died Wednesday, June 6, at the Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.
Born April 19, 1929 in Kistler, Pa., he was the son of the late Russell and Olive Gutchall Mentzer. He was marriage to Linda C. McNerlin Mentzer on Aug. 31, 1956.
Mr. Mentzer worked as a Logistician at Letterkenny Army Depot (DESCOM), Chambersburg for 38 years before he retired.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Mentzer was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W., Hume, McNeal, Byers AMVETS Post 224, and the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, all of Chambersburg.
He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and fiddle-player.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy Mentzer of Mechanicsburg and Susan Hull of Chambersburg; a son, Rodney Mentzer of Lawton, Okla.; four sisters, Esther Wagner of Lewistown, Helen Mellott of Mt. Union, Grace Miller of Shirleysburg and Flo Scott of Mt. Union; three brothers, Blaine Mentzer of Mill Creek, Merrill Mentzer of Shippensburg and Dale Mentzer of Wilmington, Del. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, June 11 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Crownover officiating.
A military graveside service was conducted at Parklawns Memorial Gardens by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W. Honor Guard.
Lester E. Martin
Lester E. Martin, 58, 3926 Guilford Springs Road, Chambersburg, died Sunday, June 10 at his residence.
Born April 4, 1943 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Naomi Diller Martin of Hagerstown, Md. and the late Abner R. Martin. He was marriage to Ruth A. Martin Martin on Feb. 23, 1963.
Mr. Martin was a lifelong farmer known in the dairy business for his family’s herd “Pleasant Valley Jerseys.” He had also operated a cattle leasing business.
Mr. Martin was a member of Marion Mennonite Church, Chambersburg, where he taught Sunday School. He had also been an active representative with Brotherly Aid and had hosted international guests. Mr. and Mrs. Martin were also active with the Outreach at Bethel Community Church in Warfordsburg.
He was a board member and past president of Ag-Choice Farm Credit of Pennsylvania, director and past president of the Pa. Jersey Cattle Association, member and past president of the Cumberland Valley Jersey Breeders; member of the Cumberland Valley Cooperative, Franklin County DHIA, Franklin County Farm Bureau, Dairy Farmers of America, American Jersey Cattle Association, Franklin County Graziers and Cumberland Valley Antique Association. Mr. Martin served as director with the Pennsylvania Dairyman’s Association. He was a 4-H Leader and was active with the Gideon’s Society.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Douglas E. Martin of Chambersburg; three daughters, Karla A. Slick, Tina K. Holderman and Denise R. Martin, all of Chambersburg; two brothers, Glenn Martin and Roger Martin, both of Hagerstown, Md.; three sisters, Anita Eby of Hagerstown, Md., Nadine Martin of Chewsville, Md. and Hazel Martin of Waynesboro; four grandsons and four granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14 at the Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, with Rev. Roger Martin, Rev. Gary Quackenbos, Rev. Cleon Nyce and Rev. Lauren Horst officiating.
Visitation was held Wednesday evening.
Interment will be private in Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery prior to the funeral service.

Ruth E. Forrester
Ruth E. Forrester, 82, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, formerly of Clearfield Road, Shippensburg, died Sunday, June 10 at her residence.
Born July 13, 1918 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Mary E. Hinkle McLaughlin and raided by her late grandparents, Samuel and Belle Hinkle. She was marriage to Ray E. Forrester, also a resident at Menno Haven, Chambersburg.
Mrs. Forrester was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg. In her youth, she had been involved with the Youth Program at the Orrstown United Brethren Church and various other activities in the Orrstown community.
She had been employed at the former Shirt Craft and L’Aiglon companies in Shippensburg and helped on the dairy farm with her husband. He loved to sew, crochet and cook.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Cleveland R. Forrester, Chambersburg; two daughters, Lois M. Brechbiel of Berwick, Ill. and Tina James of Everett; one brother, Amos McLaughlin Jr. of Orrstown; four sisters, Alice Taylor of Chambersburg, Elsie Watts of Lykens, Betty Fickes of Carlisle and Kathryn “Dot” Yeager of Shippensburg; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Forrester was preceded in death by one grandson, one great-grandson, seven brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg, with the Rev. Garry L. Culler and the Rev. Ronald L. Cook officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Greene Township.
Friends may call Thursday evening, June 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
