Amy Lynne Maxwell, 29, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in her home in Ross Twp. Born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 21, 1972, she was the daughter of Robert J. Jr. and Barbara Burke Maxwell. She is survived by her brother, William R. Maxwell of Ross; and grandparents, Robert J. Sr. and Norma R. Maxwell. Friends received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway, Ross. Services will be in the chapel of the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Hiland Cemetery. Helen Herler Nebel, age 80, on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in Wexford House, McCandless. She was born in Pittsburgh on May 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Auer) Herler. Beloved cousin of Patricia Bucsek, Charles Bucsek and sons Adam and Mark, all of Shaler, Dennis Bucsek and wife Sue of North Carolina, George Auer Jr. of West Virginia, and Eleanor Viney of Arizona. Helen was employed as an accountant for Shenango, Inc., and was a member of Berkeley Hills Lutheran Church. Family will receive friends Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 388 Center Ave., West View, where services will be Friday at 2 p.m. Vicar Jack Hernstrom will officiate. Interment in Uniondale Cemetery.

Kathryn L. Schneider, age 75, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Brinton Manor, Glen Mills, Pa. She was born in October, 1926, in Blawnox, to the late Charles and Faye Beaver Roach. Kathryn worked for 15 years at American Roller Bearing Co. in RIDC Park, O'Hara, as a secretary, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Hampton Presbyterian Church and a former member of Hoboken Presbyterian Church of Blawnox. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine S. Vogeley of Glen Mills; her son, Jacob C. Schneider of Elkton, Md.; and four grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob L. Schneider. Friends received Saturday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the HERBERT R. Walter T. Valkavitch, age 79, on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. He was born in Harwick, Pa., Nov. 7, 1921, son of the late Stanley and Josephine (Zak) Valkavitch. In addition to his parents, Mr. Valkavitch was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Buckley) Valkavitch, and a brother, Stanley Valkavitch. He is survived by two children, Valerie Valkavitch, and Gary L. Valkavitch and his wife Patricia, all of Ross; three grandchildren, Krista, Gary Jr. and Michelle; and a sister, Helen Babyak of Cheswick. Walter was the original owner of Wally's Pizza in Millvale and Springdale. He was a member of P.N.A. Federation Lodge and a World War II veteran. Family will receive friends Thursday 1 to 9 p.m. in the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 388 Center Ave., West View, where a blessing service will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Robert A. Oakdale
Robin R. Zickefoose, 14, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was born Sept. 5, 1987, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Bernie R. Zickefoose and Dana Connolly. Robin was a seventh-grade student at West Allegheny Middle School. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Pam Zickefoose at home; her grandmother, Marie Jarecki of Kennedy Twp.; her adopted grandmother, Rose Lutz; and a family of nurses at Children's Hospital. Friends received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at THOMAS-LITTLE FUNERAL SERVICE, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. William Schwartz. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Buckhannon, W.Va.
Fox Chapel
Jane Cameron Slaymaker Zimmerman died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, in Longwood at Oakmont Health Care Center, of cancer in her 89th year. She was interred in Lancaster, Pa., at a graveside service. Mrs. Zimmerman was born in White Chimneys, Gap-in-the-Hills, Lancaster, Pa., where her family lived since 1720. She moved to Pittsburgh in 1943 with her husband, John G. Zimmerman, also of Lancaster, who predeceased her in 1981. While Mr. Zimmerman worked as manager of the applied research division of the U.S. Steel Laboratory, Mrs. Zimmerman volunteered extensively at St. Margaret's Memorial Hospital on both the Dispensary and the Women's Auxiliary boards. A capable businesswoman, she ran the Lawrenceville facility's Hospital Gift Shop for many years, building a large and loyal clientele and providing support for the hospital's bed fund and other programs. Mrs. Zimmerman was also very active in the Junior League of Pittsburgh, and worked in and managed the organization's thrift shop for many years. At her time of death, she was the league's oldest sustaining member. Gardens were one of Mrs. Zimmerman's lifelong interests. She had been an active member of the Fox Chapel Garden Club since 1946. Over her lifetime, she built a broad and deep knowledge of flowers and gardening, trees, grounds and landscaping. She continued to learn and share her knowledge enthusiastically throughout her life. Her plants and seedlings were an important part of the Fox Chapel Garden Club's May Market booth. Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a genealogical society devoted to historic preservation and patriotic education. She was a member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church, under the leadership of Howard C. Scarfe, and was instrumental in the founding of the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Hamilton Club of Lancaster and of the Fox Chapel Golf Club. Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by two sons, John G. Jr. of Sewickley and William F. of Amherst, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. D. Grahame Smyth of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A service in celebration of her life will be in Calvary Episcopal Church at Shady Avenue and Walnut Street in Pittsburgh, Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 12:30 p.m. Those whose lives were touched by hers are warmly invited. A light lunch will follow. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lancaster Farmland Trust, 128 E. Marion Street, Lancaster, PA 17603, or to the Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania (the organization that is building the Botanic Garden), PO Box 5126, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Donegal
Garnet N. Anthony, 80, of Donegal, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Donegal Township, a daughter of the late Charles and Jennie Martz Lenhart. She was Lutheran by faith. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the former Union National Bank of Pittsburgh. She was the last surviving member of her family, having been preceded in death by eight sisters: Evelyn Grimm, Clara Newill, Mabel Query, Beulah Darr, Mae Burns, Alberta Mays, Gladys Lenhart and Faye Munson. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the L. BOYD SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC., Church Street, Donegal, Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Normalville
Roy W. Bowser, 93, of Normalville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, while in the Eicher's Family Home, Normalville. He was born March 23, 1908, in Addison, Somerset County, a son of the late John C. and Minnie R. Uphole Bowser. Roy was a longtime resident of Normalville. He worked as a farmer and also worked for PennDOT. He was sexton of Normalville Cemetery for 46 years and was past president of the Normalville Cemetery Association. He was also a sales representative for Connellsville Memorials. Roy was a member of the Normalville United Methodist Church and attended the Star Junction Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mill Run Grange 1109 and held various offices in the grange. He enjoyed senior citizens trips, dinners, raising a garden and canning what he raised. Roy enjoyed cooking and making vegetable and potato soup. His rice dish was a specialty at dinners. Listening to gospel music and watching "The Price is Right" was a daily routine for Roy. He would talk to anyone who would stand still to listen. Roy is survived by two sons, Don Bowser and his wife, Meriel, of Mill Run and Duane Bowser and his wife, Birdie, of Normalville; seven grandchildren, Pam Hughes, Carol Hull, Selena Tressler, Roy E. Bowser, Laverne Hager, Charles Bowser and Denise King; 10 great-grandchildren, Laurie Hoke, Kathy Hull, Leah and Jimmy Hughes, Angela and Stacey Musto, Zachary Tressler, Shania Bowser and Jonathan and Patrick Hager; two sisters, Lena Bietzel and her husband, Earnest, of Accident, Md., and Mary Thornburg of Astor, Fla.; a brother, Charles Bowser of Accident, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Theadoshia Frantz Bowser, on April 18, 1987; his brothers, Joseph and Freeman Bowser; a sister, Betty Williams; and a daughter-in-law, Edith Bowser. Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John Davis officiating. A committal service and interment

Susan A. (Montecupo) Czuway, 85, of Herminie, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Tarrs, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Colaprete) Montecupo. She was a member of St. Edward Church, Herminie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sigmund "Ziggy" Czuway, in 1985; a brother, Tony; and a sister, Margaret Montecupo. Mrs. Czuway, "Susan, " is survived by four brothers, Mr. Joseph and his wife, Elinor Montecupo, of Port Orange, Fla., Mr. Louis and his wife, Josephine Montecupo, of Herminie, Mr. James and his wife, Evelyn "Dolly" Montecupo, of Greensburg and Mr. John and his wife, Mary Montecupo, of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be held in the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. Scottdale
Gilbert A. "Gib" DiMatteo, 78, of Market Street, Scottdale, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 7, 2001, in his residence. He was born June 15, 1923, in Scottdale, a son of the late Agostino and Josephine DiPasquale DiMatteo. Gib was a life member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, and the church's Holy Name and St. Vincent DePaul societies. He was also a 4th Degree member and Past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator of the Catholic Knights of Columbus, Bishop O'Connor Assembly, Connellsville. He was a veteran of the armed forces serving during World War II with the U.S. Army, Company N, 12th Quartermaster Training Regiment and Service Company, 110th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Scottdale. Gib was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1943, and Uniontown Technical School. He was a retired blacksmith and welder in the cold reduction department of U.S. Steel, Irvin Works, with 39 years of service. Gib was a member of the South Greensburg American Legion Post 981 and a member of the Mt. Pleasant and Everson Senior Citizens organizations. He was also a member of the Scottdale Sons of Italy and East Huntingdon Sportsman's Club. He was a licensed amateur radio operator with his call sign "W3RSY" and a member of the Coke Center Radio Club in Connellsville. Gib leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Yolanda H. Celani DiMatteo, whom he married Feb. 3, 1951; and his daughter, Gloria Jean Pohodich and her husband, Kevin, of Elizabeth Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent DiMatteo, who was killed in action in France during World War II, and Gerald "Jerry" DiMatteo, who died April 23, 1976. Gib's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. William P. Donahue as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist R.C. Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. A parish wake service will be held Friday afternoon in the funeral home.
