Sullivan and his wife, Judy, of North Huntingdon; and brother of Robin McWilliams of Ohio and Elaine Campbell of Lawrenceville. Lois (Mullooly) Zyra, 71, of Turtle Creek, on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999. She was a retired employee of USX, E.T. Works. Mother of Trudy Loughrey (wife of Robert G.) of Villanova, Pa., formerly of Mt. Lebanon, and the late Charles L. "Zero" Zyra. Sister of Jane Osman of Turtle Creek. Grandmother of C.J. Starkey, Patrick, Allison, Timothy and Ned Loughrey. St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe
Father Lawrence Henry Hill, O.S.B., a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001. He was 64 years old. One of six children, Father Lawrence was born May 4, 1937, in Tarentum, a son of the late Edward and Helen (Burger) Hill. He received a bachelor of arts from St. Vincent College in 1961 and a master of divinity from St. Vincent Seminary in 1965. He also earned several advanced degrees, including a master of library science from the University of Pittsburgh and a master of education in counseling from Duquesne University. He had worked since 1993 as a therapist at Westmoreland Gateway Rehabilitation Center, and was credentialed as a certified addictions counselor in 1997. Father Lawrence entered St. Vincent Archabbey in 1958, made simple profession of vows on July 2, 1959, and solemn profession of vows on July 11, 1962. He was ordained a priest on May 22, 1965. He held several positions in the St. Vincent Library, including acting director of libraries from 1968 to 1969, and taught on the faculty of St. Vincent College and Seminary. He also served on many college committees and boards. Father Lawrence was a member of the board of directors of the American Theological Library Association and the Westmoreland County Historical Society. He belonged to a number of professional organizations and has been listed in such directories as American Catholic Who's Who. Father Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Womack and Martha Marie; and two brothers, Glenn and John. He is survived by a brother, Raymond, of Brackenridge. Father Lawrence's body will be received Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Elizabeth Roderick Center, St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe. Viewing will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the parlor of the Elizabeth Roderick Center. A vigil service will be held Monday at 7:15 p.m. in St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benedictine Health and Welfare Fund at St. Vincent Archabbey.
Greensburg
William Anthony Lorenz, 90, of Greensburg, died on his 53rd wedding anniversary, Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in his home. He was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Marguerite, the son of the late Antonio and Mary Margo Lorenz. William was a graduate of Greensburg High School and an alumnus of Augusta Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the American and Asia-Pacific theaters of operation, and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1945. His career as a civilian eventually led him to Trogolio Trucking Co. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, William A. Lorenz; four sisters, Mary Louise Donghia, Mildred Lorenz, Bessie Gall and Veda Brunelli; and a niece, Patricia Policastro. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Costabile Lorenz; a son, Anthony Philip Lorenz and wife, Kathy Jones-Lorenz, of Meadow Vista, Calif.; a daughter, Cheryl Elizabeth Ayala and husband, Jose, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Austen Lorenz, Emerson Lorenz and Elianna Noelle Ayala; a sister, Nicolena McDevitt; and a number of nieces and nephews. Most notably, William enjoyed the simple pleasures that came from spending time with his family and friends. Having been retired for 27 years, he traveled extensively with his family in the United States and abroad, and loved to dance to big band music as recently as his 50th wedding anniversary. A memorial service was held at Mt. Soledad, La Jolla, Calif., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, to coincide with William's birthday and that of the U.S. Marine Corps. The service was complete with full military honors, including a 21-gun salute, the playing of Taps, the singing of Amazing Grace and the folding and presentation of the U.S. flag. A permanent plaque was installed on the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial Wall to honor William's life. He will be remembered as a man of integrity and depth whose light will forever burn brightly within the hearts of all those he touched. Jeannette
John S. Madrick, 98, of Jeannette, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Feb. 19, 1903, in Rillton, a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Gombos Madrick. Prior to retirement, he worked in the maintenance department for the Jeannette School District. He was a member of the Ascension Church, Jeannette, the Holy Name Society and the senior citizens group of the church, a life member of B.P.O.E. #486, Jeannette, and a social member of the Polish Brotherhood of the White Eagle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank and Joseph Madrick; sisters, Mary, Ann and Elizabeth Madrick; and a son-in-law, Raymond Brean. He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Catherine L. Hannoville Madrick of Jeannette; three daughters, Dolores "Dolly" Procida and her husband, Sam, of Jeannette, Joyce A. King and her husband, John, of Florida and Kathleen M. "Kathy" Brean of Jeannette; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Madrick, and a sister, Margaret Wilde, both of Nevada; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Ascension Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
Greensburg
Irvin C. Mann, 89, formerly of Greensburg, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Wellsprings Personal Care Home, North Huntingdon. He was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late Carl and Pearl (Bayer) Mann. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a first sergeant of an infantry company during the Pacific campaign. Mr. Mann (Irvin) was a retired draftsman, having worked for Lehigh Design in Delmont for many years. Mr. Mann's memberships included the Youngwood Sportsmen's Association, Pa. Rifle & Pistol Association, National Rifle Association, National Parks and Conservation Association, American Bible Society, Coral Ridge Ministries, Experienced Driver Program, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, Christian Businessmen's Committee, Seniors Coalition, Commanders Club, Pa. Game Commission, and was a Hunter Trainer Education Instructor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Reihart) Mann, in 1988; and two sisters, Florence Lascelles and Elva Taylor. Mr. Mann (Irvin) is survived by two sons, Mr. David Mann of Jeannette and Mr. Robert Mann of Greensburg; two daughters, Patricia and her husband, Ken Plessinger of Florida and Karen and her husband, Larry Baker, of Wyano; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chuck F. Belle Vernon
Kirby P. Manown Sr., 69, of Lynnwood, Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. A son of the late Clinton H. and Ida Lermineaux Manown, he was born May 31, 1932, in Rostraver Township. He was a charter member of Lynnwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the Fayette City F&AM Lodge 252, the Charleroi Italian Unita Club and the Star Junction Fish and Game Club. A lifelong Belle Vernon resident, he had resided in Lynnwood for the past 40 years and retired in 1982 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Kramer Manown; two sons, Kirby P. Manown Jr. of Waynesville, N.C., and Erik Manown at home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly and Bud Little and Dana Manown Shupenko, all of Rostraver Township; two brothers and a sister, William and Frank Manown and Rebecca Jannotta, all of Belle Vernon; and four grandsons, Andrew and Mathew Little, Joseph Shupenko and Kirby Manown III. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Martin, George, Jack and Clinton "Tinse" Manown; and three sisters, Naomi Kuss, Louise Bedner and Adele Cramer. Friends will be received at the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Lynnwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, Washington Road, with the Rev. Jeannette
Lillian Rose Matiska, 83, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001. A native of Jeannette, Lillian was well known as an active volunteer in community affairs. She was committed to the concept of Jeannette having its own hospital and was the first employee of Jeannette Memorial Hospital, having worked to raise the initial funds to build it. Lillian began as director of purchasing and head of personnel at the hospital after it opened. She rose to national stature in the field of materials management, becoming president of the national organization. She was recognized in her field many times, including being a recipient of the George Gassett Award from the American Hospital Association and the Ellis Karp Award from the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania. She spoke in 28 states on the subject and also served as president of the Pittsburgh Materials Management Society. Always an organizer, Lillian organized the Association of Retired Employees of the hospital after her own retirement. She had twice served as president of the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and donated thousands of hours to that organization. She conceived the idea of having the Auxiliary create a scholarship for medical students to enable them to establish a practice in Jeannette following their studies, thus providing the community with qualified doctors for many years. She and her husband, John Matiska, by whom she is survived, were married for more than 60 years. Following their retirements, they spent winters at their home in Dunedin, Fla. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ida Gagliardi; two brothers, Albert and Edward Gagliardi; and her sister, Irene (Mrs. H. Reginald) Belden. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Henry Gagliardi; Irene's children, H. Reginald Belden Jr. of Greensburg and Marcia Lappas; Albert's children, Richard and Robert; and Henry's children, Judy and Kay. Visitation will be at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Ascension Church, 615 Division St., Jeannette. Diann C. Rupert, 51, of Jeannette, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born July 30, 1950, in Greensburg, a daughter of Mildred Gordon Rupert of Jeannette and the late Clarence A. Rupert. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Jeannette. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Donald Rupert and wife, Carol, of Antioch, Calif.; a sister, Doris McWilliams of Jeannette; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, where service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel R. Defassio officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
