Gary J. "Guffey" Soyka, 43, of Sutersville, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born March 7, 1956, in Greensburg, a son of John and Martha Foster Soyka of Sutersville. He was a dog trainer and animal lover, a "Jack of all trades and master of most." He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a 1975 graduate of Yough High School. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Jarett Soyka-Laudadio of Jeannette; three brothers, John "Jerry" and wife, Barb, of Miami Beach, Fla., Jeff of Atlanta, Ga., and Ricky and wife, Vickie, of Monessen; and a sister, Cheryl Soyka Menser and husband, Greg, of Bovard. Also several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, many friends, and a loving and caring dog, Mariah. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Alice Soyka and maternal grandparents, John and Maggie Foster. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Darrel Evans officiating. Interment West Newton Cemetery.
Rose M. Joyce, 87, of Ebensburg, Pa., formerly of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, in Lee General Hospital, Johnstown. She was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J. Joyce; and two brothers. She is survived by a son, Richard P. Joyce and his wife, Carol, of Burton, Ohio; two daughters, Patricia L. Smith of Johnstown and Judith Adams and her husband, Jerry, of Huntsville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Saturday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at noon at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
David C. Havey, 35, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1964, in Jeannette, a son of Franklin and Nancy J. (Forsyth) Havey. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Larimer. He is survived by two brothers, Paul Havey of Wexford and Eric Havey of North Huntingdon. Visitation, service and interment

Joseph J. Simica, 88, of Murrysville, formerly of Wilkinsburg and Sun City Center, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in the Braddock Medical Center, Braddock. He was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Rankin, a son of the late Joseph and Dana Peretic Simica. He was a retired staff supervisor for U.S. Steel, Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Simica. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Queer Simica; a son, Robert D. Simica of Murrysville; a daughter, Susan Snapp of Allentown; a sister, Barb Purvis of Sun City, Calif.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Graveside services will be private in the William Penn Memorial Cemetery, Churchill. If desired, memorials may be made to the Western Pa. School for Blind Children, 201 N. Bellefield Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
Brother Bernard J.F. Lewitzke, O.S.B., a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, after a brief illness. He was 88 years old. Brother Bernard was born Feb. 12, 1911, in Lauenberg, Germany, a son of the late Theophil Lewitzke and Marie (Felstan) Lewitzke, and was baptized John Francis. When he was 18 months old, his family moved to the United States and settled in Chicago, Ill., where he attended St. Paul's Grade School and Jones High School. Brother Bernard entered the St. Vincent Monastic community in 1926. He began his novitiate as a lay brother in 1927 and made profession of vows on July 2, 1928. Brother Bernard served as the miller at the St. Vincent gristmill from 1927 to 1950, and as a baker from 1950 to 1953. He was also Socius of Brothers from 1950 to 1960. From 1961 to 1967, he was Sacristan at St. Mary's Church, North Side, Pittsburgh. He was assigned to the Monastery's Priory and High School in Savannah, Ga., in 1967, working there for several years as a baker and also teaching German privately. In 1982, he returned to the Archabbey, where he did clerical work for the Development Club. Brother Bernard is survived by three sisters, Molly Uchison of Oaklawn, Ill., Hattie Cronk of Cicero, Ill., and Martha Grazulis of Markham, Ill. Two brothers, Leo and Paul, preceded him in death. A viewing for Brother Bernard will be held at Leander Hall parlor, St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, Wednesday from 3-4:30 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 3-4:30 p.m. A vigil service will be held in St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benedictine Health and Welfare Fund at St. Vincent Archabbey.
Farra Tebbi Lewis, 39, of New Jersey, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000. She was born June 4, 1960, in Iran. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Joel Lewis, formerly of Jeannette; three children, Danielle, Alexandria and Zachery; her mother- and father-in-law, Rosemary and Fritz Lewis of Jeannette; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services and interment
were held in New Jersey.
Lawrence R. Clem, 84, of Acme, formerly of Harrison City and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 30, 1915, in Hunker, a son of the late William Andrew and Katherine Adams Clemm. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Trauger and a member of the Shidle Lodge #601 Free and Accepted Masons. Also a member of the Retired Trainmen and Enginemen Social Club. Prior to his retirement in October 1975, he was employed as a train dispatcher for the Penn Central Railroad, and previously worked for the General Tire Co. of Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 ½ years, Martha Aileen LaSitis Clem; and two brothers, Frank E. and William G. Clem. He is survived by his loving daughter, Carol L. Martz and her husband, James, of Acme, with whom he resided; two granddaughters, Shannon Wallbaum and her husband, Neal, of Greensburg and Christie Martz of Acme; a brother, Kenneth L. Clem of Jeannette; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. His funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt F. Kusserow officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery. The Shidle Lodge #601 Free and Accepted Masons will hold a service in the funeral home Monday at 8 p.m.
Ivy M. McDonald, 48, of Jeannette, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born July 1, 1951, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Harry and Betty Miller Baker. She was a member of the Liberty Christian Church, Greensburg. She is survived by her husband, James D. McDonald Sr.; three sons, James D. McDonald Jr. and Harry McDonald, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Richard McDonald of Jeannette; three grandchildren, Ryan Lloyd McDonald, Garnet Ivy McDonald and Christian Bradley McDonald; a sister, Mrs. Carol Foust and her husband, Fabian, of Bolivar; a number of nieces and nephews; and two aunts. Friends will be received at the COSHEY-NICHOLSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 8 p.m., at which time funeral service will be held with the Rev. Almon Birt officiating. Interment will be in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. Alvin P. Oskin Jr., funeral director, in charge of arrangements.
Sister Mary Adrian Bronchain, 79, pastoral minister at St. Columbkille Parish in Imperial, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Caritas Christi, the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity, Greensburg. She was born in the Crafton Heights section of Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Fred A. and Ella Jane (McGregor) Bronchain. She is survived by a niece, Patricia Davin; and a cousin, Sister Louise de Marillac Coyle, S.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Bronchain and Mary Frances Davin; and a brother, Charles. She entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill from St. Philip Parish on Sept. 8, 1941. Sister Mary Adrian earned her Bachelor and Master of Education degrees from Duquesne University in 1955 and 1968. Sister devoted her years of ministry to education and pastoral ministry, and she taught middle and upper elementary students between 1943 and 1977 in western Pennsylvania, Arizona and California. She served as principal in Mt. Pleasant and Blairsville Catholic schools. During many summers, she assisted the Mistress of Novices in working with the newest members of the Congregation. In 1977, Sister Mary Adrian shifted her focus to parish religious education, adult education and home visiting. She served in those capacities at St. Columbkille Parish for the past 15 years. Friends will be received Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 6:50 p.m. at Caritas Christi, Mt. Thor Road, Greensburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Assumption, Caritas Christi. Burial in Sisters' Cemetery, Seton Hill, Greensburg. Walter M. Antoniak, 76, of Jeannette, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000. He was born March 6, 1923, in Jeannette, a son of the late Ignatius and Agnes Zelachowski Antoniak. Prior to his retirement, Walter was employed by the former General Tire Co. of Jeannette, presently Gen Corp. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Jeannette and the church's Holy Name Society; a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy, a member of the American Legion Post #344, the Arlington Club and the Brotherhood of White Eagles, all of Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Georgia Miller Antoniak, in 1997. He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Busija and her husband, David, of Youngwood; two sons, Walter J. Antoniak and his wife, Patti, and John R. Antoniak, all of Jeannette; three brothers, Carl and his wife, Lil, and Daniel and his wife, Ruth, all of Jeannette, and Leonard Antoniak and his wife, Dolores "De, " of Harrison City; two sisters, Dorothy Tanyer and Martha Bair and husband, Harry, all of Jeannette; two grandchildren, Sarah Sprock of Youngwood and Ashley Antoniak of Jeannette; two step-grandchildren, Scott Busija of Texas and Kristy Busija of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Sacred Heart Holy Name Society will hold services Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and the Jeannette Combined Veterans will hold services Wednesday at 8 p.m., both in the funeral home.
