Betty Jean Shepherd, 72, of Forbes Road, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999. She was born May 24, 1927, in Forbes Road, a daughter of Georgina Nesbit Wilson and the late David S. Wilson. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lady MacGregor Lodge #73 of the Daughters of Scotia, and also of the Forbes Road Civic Association. She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Joseph R. Shepherd; and two brothers, Delbert Edward Wilson and David Straus Wilson Jr. Survivors include her mother, Georgina Wilson of Forbes Road; a stepdaughter, Penny Smith of California; two sisters, Martha M. Chomko and Nancy W. and her husband, Donald Bergman, all of Greensburg; a brother, Richard Thomas Wilson of Granby, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Daughters of Scotia services will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral service Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with pastor David Clement officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
Harry Martin Hammond, 88, of Denton, Md., died of complications, Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md. Born Dec. 31, 1910, near Strasburg, Va., the son of the late William Hubert Hammond and Clara Emma Miller Hammond. After graduating in 1930 from Handley High School in Winchester, Va., he was awarded a collegiate scholarship by the DuPont Corp. to the University of Virginia, from which he graduated in 1934 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. While at the university, he was elected to the Tau Beta Pi and Theta Tau fraternities. He was later received into the university's Thomas Jefferson Society of Alumni, in 1984. Mr. Hammond's engineering career spanned 40 years. After college graduation, he worked for Virginia Woolen Co., and later became the district engineer for the Potomac Edison Power Company (PE). In 1943, Mr. Hammond was promoted to technical engineer for the Potomac Edison Power Co. in Hagerstown, Md., after which he became assistant plant engineer for the company's Cumberland power station. He was later appointed plant superintendent for PE's Front Royal Virginia Power Station and then was transferred to PE's R. Paul Smith Power Station in Williamsport, Md., where he also served as superintendent. In 1962, he was promoted to manager of power production for PE. In 1969, he was promoted to director of engineering and power production for the Allegheny Power Systems (APS), Greensburg, and retired as director of power station operation for APS in 1975. He then became a consulting engineer for the Gibbs and Hill Co., and the Sanderson and Porter Co. in New York City and the C.G. Wright Construction Co. in Richmond, Va. Mr. Hammond was a member of the Southern Methodist Church. He held memberships in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Allegheny Power System Veterans' Association. He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Maryland. He was a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America in Winchester, Va., a member of the Civil War Roundtable, the Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown, Md., the Rotary Club of Greensburg and Denton, Md., and the Caroline County Historical Society. Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ethel Cecilia Kemper Hammond; two sons, the Rev. H. Martin Hammond Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and William Kemper Hammond of Severna Park, Md.; two daughters, Helen C. Nussear of Denton, Md., and M. Virginia Conmy of Richmond, Va.; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by five sisters, Bessie M. Hammond, Lois Hammond, Emma V. Hammond, Eunice L. Puckett and Kathryn H. Rhea. A Mass of Resurrection for Mr. Hammond will be celebrated by his son, the Rev. H. Martin Hammond Jr., Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church, 9400 Old Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21236. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established in the name of "Harry M. Hammond Scholarship for Mechanical Engineering" at the University of Virginia. Contributions to the scholarship may be made through the University of Virginia Fund, P.O. Box 3446, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Russell W. Gelosh, 76, of Monroeville, formerly of Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, in AUH-Forbes Regional Medical Center, Monroeville. He was born May 2, 1923, in West Overton, a son of the late George Adam and Ruth Marie Wheeler Gelosh. Mr. Gelosh worked for U.S. Steel Corp. prior to his retirement. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps., Dental Division. He was a member of the Calvin United Presbyterian Church of Scottdale. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret L. Chalender Gelosh; his loving daughter, Deborah Slusser and her husband, Dennis, of Monroeville; and his loving granddaughter, Carolyn Slusser. No public hours of visitation. Private interment
will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. John R. Morrow will officiate private services. The family suggests contributions should be made to: The Memorial Fund at Calvin U.P. Church, 311 Mulberry St., Scottdale, PA 15683. Arrangements by MURPHY-CARUSO MEMORIAL HOME, Scottdale.
Victoria J. (Haynackie) Dudash, 76, a resident of Villa Angela at St. Anne Home, Greensburg, formerly of Hannastown, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 23, 1923, in Bovard, a daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Goretski) Haynackie. Prior to retirement she had been a clerk for the United Dairy Farmers, and later a teacher's aide for the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Crabtree, and the Jednota Lodge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Dudash, on Oct. 1, 1999; two brothers, Edward and Frank; and three sisters, Helen Dlutowski, Stella Pauli and Mary Kundrod. She is survived by a son, Gerald G., and his wife, Margery Dudash, of New Stanton; a daughter, Carol J., and her husband, Paul Visokey, of North Port, N.Y.; five grandsons, Jeffery and Marc Dudash, Erik, Bradley and Kurt Visokey; two brothers, Stanley "Artie" Haynackie of Bovard and Joseph Haynackie of Greensburg; two sisters, Agnes Saglime of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Bertha "Lovie" Yagla of Bovard; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Crabtree, with the Rev. Augustine J. Flood, O.S.B. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
Mary E. Ambrose, 90, formerly of Springdale, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Natrona Heights, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Prekop Balucha. She retired from PPG, Creighton, with 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church of Springdale. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward A. Ambrose Sr.; and three brothers, John, Steve and Carl Balucha. She is survived by her son, Edward A. Ambrose, and his wife, Marge, of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Cynthia E. Stoner of Pendleton, N.Y., E. Jeffrey, Scott M. and Barbara A. Ambrose, all of Greensburg; two great-grandsons, Ryan J. and Justin D. Ambrose; and a sister, Margaret Manconi of Lower Burrell. Friends will be received at the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME, 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Alphonsus R.C. Church, Springdale. Interment will follow in the Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar.
Richard Roland Mellors, 53, of Deale, Md., formerly of Youngwood, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in Prince Georges Hospital, Cheverly, Md., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Nov. 18, 1999. Rick was a son of Joseph R. and Waldreen Zidel Mellors of Youngwood. He was a 1963 graduate of Hempfield Area High School. He had served four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict and graduated from Indiana University of Pa. He received a Master's Degree in English at George Washington University. He taught English in the Prince Georges County Schools and Calvert Community College in Maryland. Rick was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Susan Burns Mellors, on March 6, 1999. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Elaine Ferret Mellors; a son, Gregory P. Mellors of Medford, N.J.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and David Feret of Greensburg, Laura and Jeffrey Baker of Youngwood, and Elaine and Russell Hixson of Erie; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 6, at Oakland United Methodist Church, West River, Md., with the Rev. Adrienne Terry Goode as officiant. The C. Donald Wayne Anderson, 68, of Hazeltine Court, Orlando, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999. Mr. Anderson was an inspector for Orange County. Born in Greensburg, he moved to central Florida in 1977. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Janet Paul Anderson; sons, Douglas and Mark, both of Greensburg; stepsons, Donald, Steve and Richard of Orlando, Mark of Tampa, Fla., and Bruce of Arkansas; a daughter, Denise Henry of Madison; a stepdaughter, Debbie Goslin of Orlando; a brother, Dean Anderson of Maryland; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
John A. Baird, 72, of Harrison Park, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Arona, a son of the late Nathan A. and Cecelia Morrisson Baird. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 43 years in the communication and signal department at Conrail in Pitcairn. He was a member of St. Barbara Church in Harrison City, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Trafford American Legion Post #331. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Charles Baird; and two sisters, Anne Anthony and Hester Brown. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Magdalen Schneider Baird; a son, John A. Baird Jr. of Kentucky; four daughters, Colleen Moore of Jeannette, Mary Ann Norton of York, Pa., Eileen Zatezalo of Penn Township, and Karen Baric of Trafford; a brother, Al Baird of Level Green; two sisters, Virginia McCune and Idella Richard, both of Florida; and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Barbara Church with the Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Barbara Cemetery, Penn Township. Vigil service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Maxwell Stephen Falatovich, infant son of Stephen and Michelle Brown Falatovich of Jeannette, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Magee-Women's Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Nov. 26, 1999, in Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his twin sister, Mallorie Lynne Falatovich; paternal grandmother, Rosalee Falatovich of Jeannette; maternal grandparents, Linda Szymoniak and her husband, Walter, of Penn Hills and Irving Brown and his wife, Mai, of Lower Burrell; maternal great-grandmothers, Louise Brown of Smethport and Alice Roberts of Ellenton, Fla.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. There will be no public viewing or visitation periods. Services and interment

Patricia A. Doughty Blumentritt, 63, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999. She was employed at the Greensboro Hilton. She is survived by two sisters, Noreen Wolfe of Irwin and Margorie Lutz of Jeannette; seven children, David A. of Johnstown, William R. of Grapeville, John R. of Jeannette, Radene Downes of Greensburg, Terri Waszczak of North Huntingdon, Victoria J. and Mitchell P. of Greensboro, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
