John E. Berger, 67, of Irwin died yesterday at home. Employed by Kreiser Aluminum in North Huntingdon Twp., he was a member of St. Edward Church in Herminie and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Born May 27, 1933, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Joseph and Margaret Martin Berger. He is survived by his wife, Carole M. Curci Berger; daughters, Susan Crowe of North Huntingdon Twp. and Sharon Gogets of Greensburg; son, John G. Berger of Irwin; five grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Needham of Monroeville.
Friends will be received in the William Snyder Funeral Home, Irwin, tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Edward Church. Interment will follow in New St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles Twp.

Leslie D. Detar, 69, of Adamsburg died Friday at home. A greenskeeper for Westmoreland Country Club, he was a member of Brush Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hempfield Twp., and the Collier Hunting Camp.
Born Nov. 23, 1930, in Irwin, he was a son of the late Chester Detar and Sara Ritson Detar McClintock Wisser. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Oplinger Detar; sons, James L. Detar of Dover and Richard A. Detar of Lancaster; daughter, Kathleen A. Kunkle of Greensburg; three grandchildren; sister, Donna Lauffer of Elyria, Ohio; half-sisters, Patty Jones, Faye Tiech and Norma Griffin, all in Ohio; half-brother, Norman (Dan) Detar in Oklahoma; nieces and nephews.
Friends are being received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the William Snyder Funeral Home, Irwin. Service will be conducted there tomorrow at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Henry Taliercio. Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Twp.

A former McKeesport resident, Hildegard Heinichen, 75, of North Huntingdon Twp. died Saturday in UPMC McKeesport. She was a member of McKeesport-Grandview Chapter 2171, American Association of Retired Persons.
Born May 5, 1925, in Dresden Germany, she was a daughter of the late Reinhard and Gertrud Braun Rossberg and the wife of the late Bernard Heinichen. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Dunlay and Monika Shawl of North Huntingdon Twp.; sons, Bernard Heinichen of North Huntingdon Twp. and Jeffrey Heinichen of Elizabeth Twp.; eight grandchildren; sisters, Monika Richter of Dresden, Germany, and Lottie Berger of Hoyerswerda, Germany.
Friends will be received in the William H. Craig Funeral Home, Inc., tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the hour of service there at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Floyd Hall officiating. Private interment
will be in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon Twp.

Alfred "Spud" Spadafore, 84, of Monessen, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Waddington Convalescent Home following an illness of 10 months. Born on Nov. 23, 1914, in Monessen, a son of the late Michael and Vincenzina (Dodaro) Spadafore, he was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1932 graduate of Monessen High School. He was retired from the former Monessen plant of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., having worked as a motor inspector at the Blooming Mill. He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society; a life member and treasurer for many years of the Sons of Italy; life member of the Eagles Club; member of M.A.R.S. and the Italian Mutual Aid Society; and a former member of the French Club. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ann (Maranich) Spadafore; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diane Spadafore of Monessen; three daughters and sons -in-law, Nancy Moussioux of Greenville, S.C., Shirley and Ron Novakovich of Elizabeth Township, and Jean and Jim Matson of Greensburg; a brother, Albert "Abe" Spadafore of Monessen; a sister and brother-in-law, Valia and Dominic Mazzocco of Monessen; a niece, Alice Maranich of Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Hugo Spadafore; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Bellone Spadafore. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. A blessing service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass to be celebrated in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. Entombment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery Mausoleum.
Mary K. Urana, 86, of Herminie, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Mrs. Urana was born Dec. 23, 1912, in Germany, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kaus) Klavora. Mrs. Urana received her teaching degree from the University of Indiana and retired as an elementary teacher with over 30 years of service in the Sewickley Township School District. Her memberships included being a life member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie, and its Altar Rosary Society, a member of the Herminie S.N.P.J. Lodge #87 and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Mrs. Urana is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Urana; and also several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Edward Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. A St. Edward Parish Rosary will be recited Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
James C. Ferguson, 62, of Ruffsdale, died early Friday morning, Nov. 5, 1999, at his home, after an extended illness. He was born June 19, 1937, in Washington, Pa., a son of Eleanor Moninger Ferguson Fait of Connellsville and the late Howard C. Ferguson. He was a graduate of Trinity High School in Washington, Pa., with the Class of 1955, and also attended West Virginia University in Morgantown. He had been a resident of Ruffsdale for the last nine years and was self-employed in the communication construction business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and as a young man had achieved the distinction of becoming an Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the Scottdale B.P.O. Elks. He was a member of the Center Bethel Church of God in Alverton. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, J. Cevin Ferguson and his wife, Laurie, of Goldsboro, N.C., and J. Chris Ferguson and his wife, Laura Ann, of Wadsworth, Ohio; two daughters, Cathy Lou and Carrie Michelle Ferguson, both of Monroeville; two grandchildren, Chelcie and Caitlin Ferguson of Goldsboro, N.C.; a brother, Jerry Blair Ferguson and his wife, Judy, of Goldsboro, N.C.; and two sisters, Jane McGann and her husband, Richard, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Jill Reynolds of Connellsville. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of a funeral service, in the Center Bethel Church of God in Alverton with the Rev. John Pennington officiating. A committal service and interment
will follow in the Alverton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Salvation Army, Pittsburgh Chapter, in memory of James C. Ferguson.
Pamela C. Gamble, 47, of Derry, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in UPMC Shadyside. She was born May 2, 1952, in Latrobe, a daughter of Patricia Amend Pyle of Derry and the late Robert W. Pyle. She was a member of the Derry Presbyterian Church, the Derry American Legion and the Derry Ukes. She was employed by Mastorocco's Market, Derry. She is survived by her husband, James "Mitch" Gamble; a son, Robert M. Gamble and Beverly Coffman of Derry; a daughter, Rachael L. Gaffey and her husband, Robert, of New Derry; four sisters, Patsy Pyle of Florida, Paula Orzechowski and her husband, Ed, and Penny Smith and her husband, Kenneth, all of St. Augustine, Fla., and Peggy Suda and her husband, Thomas, of Indiana, Pa.; three grandchildren, Dakotta and Dylan Gaffey and Alexander Powell; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. F. Neal Galley officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.
Marion Beck Spencer, 95, of New Providence, N.J., formerly of Irwin, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999. She was born Aug. 24, 1904, in Wilmerding, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Light Beck. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 400, Irwin. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert V. Spencer; a daughter, Marilyn Lois Spencer; and a sister, Mildred Baker. She is survived by a daughter, M. Louise Magill of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Donald E. Spencer of New Providence, N.J.; three grandchildren, Doug Magill of Chatham, N.J., Scott Magill of Chandler, Ariz., and Debra Rowland of Milford, Iowa; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Geyer of North Versailles; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Frederick B. Zikeli officiating. Interment will follow at Irwin Union Cemetery.
Susie M. Trozzo, 89, of Monessen, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at 10:16 a.m., in the Monongahela Valley Hospital, following a short illness. She was born in Monessen, May 31, 1910, a daughter of the late Carmine and Rose (Trozzo) Orrico. Mrs. Trozzo, a homemaker, was a lifelong resident of Monessen, and a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the former St. Cajetan Rosary Altar Society. She was also a member of the former Italian Mutual Aid Society and Sons of Italy. She is survived by her husband, Joe Trozzo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patsy S. and Betty Trozzo of Murrysville and Carmine A. and Lorraine Trozzo of Monessen; two sisters, Mrs. Mary DeLuca and Mrs. Ida Sala, both of Monessen; seven grandchildren, David, Larry, Ronald, Timothy, Joseph and Richard Trozzo and Patti Roman. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose DeCaria, Millie Cassano and Virginia Check; and a brother, Joe Orrico. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen.
