George Hendricks Jr., 72, of Iron Bridge, Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born July 21, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late George W. Sr. and Grace B. Mardis Hendricks. George was a retiree from RobertShaw Controls in New Stanton. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Seniors and the Connellsville Senior Tigers. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Ella Jean Crosby, Lois June Shallenberger and Sarah Louise Eckman; and two brothers, Charles Wilfred and Robert Allen Hendricks. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen R. Kuhns Hendricks; two daughters, Kathy Clark and her husband, Ron, of Alexandria, Va., and Judy Bowlen and her husband, Carl, of Clifton, Va.; four loving grandchildren, Drew and Bryan Clark, and Jonathan and Amy Bowlen, all of Virginia; two sisters, Geraldine Haney and her husband, Denver, of Connellsville and Gertrude Fait of Parma, Mich. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Shields officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlick Cemetery, Bullskin Township.
Steve "Molly" Hrebik, 90, of New Derry, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Green Meadows, Unity Township. He was born Jan. 5, 1909, in Dorothy, a son of the late John and Mary Mindek Hrebik. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Bradenville. He was retired from the Derry Area School District and from the United Mine Workers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having participated in the Battle of the Bulge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Polinsky Hrebik; two brothers, John and Nick Hrebik; and two sisters, Mary Cybak and Ann Sasala. Survivors include a son, Stephen Hrebik of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Ann Liberoni and her husband, Alterio "Tony", of Monroeville; two brothers, Mike Hrebik of Coral and Joseph Hrebik of Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister, Catherine Malinowski of Buffalo, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Kim Bezanis of New Jersey, Renee Liberoni of New Jersey and Anthony Liberoni of Monroeville; a great-granddaughter, Colette; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Parastas service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Panachida service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment in the church Cemetery. Military services will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home.
Phoebe A. Black Murray, 87, of Scottdale, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 29, 1999, at her residence. Phoebe was born at Bridgeport, East Huntingdon Township, Aug. 22, 1912, a daughter of the late Thomas and Cecilia Furnett Black. Phoebe was a longtime resident of the Scottdale area and was known as a caring neighbor and friend to many. Phoebe is survived by her sister, Iva Wolford of Dunbar; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Murray, on June 29, 1985; an infant son, Daniel; four sisters, Goldie V. Rollinson, Clarissa Semenko, Lillian Cunningham and Ada McBurney; and four brothers, Walter, Charles, Allan and Elmer Black. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rob Allison officiating. Graveside committal services and interment
will follow in Alverton Cemetery, next to her late husband. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 615 S. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601, in memory of Phoebe A. Murray.
James Richard Howells, 70, of Scottdale, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12, 1999, in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Oakland. Jim was born in Scottdale, March 27, 1929, a son of the late George E. Howells, who died Nov. 5, 1967, and Olive Marie Forsythe Howells, who died July 12, 1999. Jim was a life member of the First Baptist Church of Scottdale and of the Scottdale community. He was a retired grinder for the former Modulus Corp. of Mt. Pleasant with 17 years service. He was a veteran of the armed forces serving with the Pennsylvania National Guard, Hq. Co., 28th Division, 110th Infantry Division in Germany during the Korean conflict. Jim was a faithful blood donor in the Scottdale area achieving the 11 gallon goal. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Johnson Howells, with whom he celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on June 3, 1999; his sister, Marlene F. Howells of Scottdale; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack R. (Gayle) Sidehamer Howells of Scottdale; a nephew, Timothy Howells and his wife, Cindy, of Mt. Pleasant; and a great-nephew, Bradley David Howells of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack R. Howells, on June 24, 1998. Jim's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Tuesday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. James P. Cordell, officiating. Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 700, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, in memory of James R. Howells.
Delphia Marie Kachur, 78, of Monessen, passed away Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in Uniontown Hospital. Mrs. Kachur had been residing at Beverly Health Care of Uniontown. She was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Pleasant Unity, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Terhorst. Mrs. Kachur was a housekeeper for many years. A Lutheran by faith, Mrs. Kachur was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Monessen, and had been a Sunday school teacher in the nursery department of the church for 48 years. Mrs. Kachur was also a member of the Faith Lippard Missionary Society, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Association, and had been a leader with the Monessen Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls. Mrs. Kachur was preceded in death by her husband, George Kachur Jr.; and two brothers, George and Jim Terhorst. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Ted Dominick of California, Pa.; two grandchildren, Kelli Dominick of State College and Dale Dominick of California, Pa.; and two sisters, Viola Shriver of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Catherine Fligger of Acme. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Monessen. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monessen.
Robert L. Long, 82, of Bessemer Road, Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Scottdale Manor Rehabilitation Center, following a lingering illness. He was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Harvey and Rose Yezek Long. Robert was a member of the Myersdale Church of Christ and attended the Scottdale Church of Christ. He was a retired professional over-the-road driver with Dickerson Construction of Youngwood from 1958 to 1977. He was a former employee of the B&O Railroad, and was also employed by his daughter, Gayle Lee Floral, Mt. Pleasant. Robert was an avid wood craftsman and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army's 183rd Battalion Army Corps of Engineers, attaining the rank of Tec. 4. He was a recipient of the EME Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Robert leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Laura B. Geyer Long, with whom he celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Nov. 23, 1999; a daughter, Gayle Lee Bates and her husband, Ronald, of Scottdale; a son, Robert L. Long Jr. and his wife, Tamar (Sherwood), of Acme; five grandchildren, Brenda Lee Bates Shaw and her husband, Donald, of Scottdale, Jael, Jarah, Robert, and Jonah Long of Acme; and a great-grandson, Dustin Shaw of Scottdale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Victoria Lee Long; four brothers, Edward, William, Richard and Harvey Long; and three sisters, Evelyn Ashbaugh, Irene Kantorik and Catherine Pence. Robert's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David Shivley officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, with full military honors accorded at the chapel by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446.
Kay J. Orr, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, in the Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Stephen and Carolyn Carr Orehovic. Kay had served as a nurse with the U.S. Coast Guard, and was also a licensed beautician. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Forster; and two sisters, Marian Mater and Carol Rueter. A memorial funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. David P. Huey officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa.
Wilson Errett, 87, of Darragh, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Hempfield Township, a son of the late Albert F. and Olive E. (Eisaman) Errett. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Laborers International Union of North America Local #373, working at the former O.H. Martin Construction Co., Sharpsburg. His memberships included St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie, and the Jeannette American Legion Post 344. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Harry, Eddie and Kahl Errett; and three sisters, Clara Mae Loughner, Edna Williams and Emma Byerly. Mr. Errett is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (King) Errett; a son, Edward and his wife, Marianne Errett, of Madison; three daughters, Virginia and her husband, Ken Stark, of Ballwin, Mo., Bette and her husband, Arthur Alexander, of Mt. Pleasant, and Patricia and her husband, David Dwyer, of Lexington, N.C.; five grandchildren, Joe, Mike, Chris, Michele, and Adrian; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday at a time to be announced with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas officiating. Entombment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
William C. Simms, 71, of Derry, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Lockport, a son of the late Jesse and Mary Gill Simms. A retired employee of Vulcan Mold and Iron Co., Latrobe, he had been a Pennsylvania hunting and trapping instructor and a bus driver for Mark Lines for 22 years. He was a member of St. Vincent Parish, the Kingston Vets and Sportsmen's Association, Possum Hollow Club, Baggaley Fire Hall, Hostetter Club, Derry Ukrainian Society, the Rod and Gun Club, Westmoreland County Federation of Sportsmen's Club, and the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Association. He was also a social member of Derry American Legion Post #324 and VFW Post #444. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannine Hough Simms; his second wife, Elizabeth Matuszky Simms; a son, Patrick A. Simms; and several brothers and sisters. Bill is survived by five sons, Carl and Bonnie Simms of New Derry, Harold and Lorraine Simms of Kingston, Gary and Marcia and Michael and Susan Simms, all of Derry, and Robert Matusky of Baggaley; three daughters, Sharon and Robert Forney of Latrobe, Melanie and John Pearce of New Alexandria, and Susan Matusky of Baggaley; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Paul of Latrobe, Frank of Hillside, Dale of Kingston, Wayne of Mt. Pleasant, Ron of Greensburg, and Dennis of New Alexandria; four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Yvonne "Cook") Kelly of Latrobe, Mrs. Michael (Ila) Wassil and Gloria Simms, all of Whitney, and Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Riffle of Derry. Family will receive friends in the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., 548 N. Chestnut St., Derry, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced.
Florence Agnes (Carasia) Willochell, 69, of New Alexandria RD2 (Greenwald), died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Greenwald, a daughter of the late Felix J. and Rose M. (Yannerella) Carasia. She was a member of the St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church, Crabtree, and previously had been employed by the former G.C. Murphy Co. in Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Leo Carasia. She is survived by her husband of nearly 42 years, Leonard John Willochell; two children, Leonard J. and his wife, LuAnne (Bell) Willochell, of Latrobe and Nancy Hughes and her husband, Richard, of Greensburg; two grandsons, Nicholas and Derek Hughes; three sisters, Lena Tenerovich and her husband, Edward, of Latrobe, Rose Savinsky and her husband, Raymond, of Greenwald, and Carm Myers and her husband, Charles, of Latrobe; and three brothers, James Carasia and his wife, Helen, and Carmen and Angelo Carasia, all of Greenwald. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Bartholomew's R.C. Church, Crabtree, with the Rev. Augustine Flood, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery, near Crabtree.
