Kathleen T. "Kathie" Sefchik Mahokey, 55, of West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, died suddenly Monday morning, Dec. 27, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, June 4, 1944, a daughter of Helen M. Craffey Sefchik of Scottdale and the late John J. Sefchik, who died Jan. 19, 1970. Kathie was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, and of the Scottdale community. She was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Parochial School and a graduate of Scottdale Joint Sr. High School, Class of 1962. In addition to her mother, Helen M. Craffey Sefchik of Scottdale, Kathie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard A. Mahokey, with whom she celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on Aug. 31, 1999; her two sons and daughter, who will cherish her memory, Richard A. Mahokey Jr. and his wife, Kimberly (Hoover), of Monroeville, Kimberly A. Helmick and her husband, Thomas, of Morgantown, W.Va., and Jason D. Mahokey and his wife, JoErin (O'Leary), of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, and Adam Hoover, and Ryan Mahokey; and a brother, Raymond Sefchik and his wife, Patricia (Rozycki), of Scottdale. In addition to her father, Kathie was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Ann Mahokey, on Jan. 3, 1970; and her mother-in-law, Ruth J. Mahokey Horne on May 20, 1994. Friends are invited to join the family Wednesday at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale, for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass for Kathie with the Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Allegheny Chapter, Pittsburgh, PA, in memory of Kathleen T. Mahokey. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale.
Russell J. Noel, 70, of Trafford, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born March 22, 1929, in Coulters, Pa., a son of the late Clyde and Elizabeth Campbell Noel. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Pitcairn Borough Roads Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, American Legion Post #256, Pitcairn Fire Company #2, Alleywest and the Trafford Senior Citizens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Stutz Noel, in 1997; five brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Schickel and Alyce Noel, both of Pitcairn and Carole Barbour of Shaler Township; six grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Rathi. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DAVID A. RITTER FUNERAL HOME, 220 Edgewood Ave., Trafford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, Pitcairn, with Father James E. Somma as celebrant. Christine J. "Chris" Stefanko Schade, 55, of North Huntingdon, died at West Side Memorial Hospital, Plantation, Fla., Monday, Dec. 27, 1999. Born in Duquesne, Nov. 11, 1944, a daughter of the late George and Yolanda Jordan Stefanko. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin and Adopt-A-Pet. She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Schade; a stepson, David K. Schade of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a granddaughter. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment Irwin Union Cemetery.
Alverta E. Brown, 95, of Acme, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. She was born Dec. 15, 1904, in Wooddale, a daughter of the late Harry and Belle Brothers Wingrove. Early in her life, Alverta taught school in the Buchannan, Bear Rocks, and Rich Hill Schools. She attended the former California Normal School and was a member of the Appalachian Wagon Train, a life member of the Wooddale Grange and an honorary member of the Horse and Mule Association. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Earl D. Brown; three sons, Dale, Dean and Jack Brown; a daughter, Audrey Brown; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Brown; brothers, Clarence and William Wingrove; sisters, Nellie Wingrove and Elva Wadsworth; and a nephew, William Wingrove. She is survived by four children, Geneva Brown and her husband, Gilbert, of Greensburg, Zane Brown and his wife, Arlene, of Acme, Thomas Brown and his wife, Vera, of Acme, and Sally Brown of Acme; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elwood Wingrove and his wife, Margaret, of Wooddale. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Elam Bender officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery, Saltlick Township.
Sarah Louise Cummins, 81, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 18, 1918, in Greensburg, the daughter of the late Patrick and Clara Newhouse Cummins. She was retired from the Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, C.D. of A. #306, Court Seton of Greensburg, the Autumn Leaves and Rosary Confraternity of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, the Ladies Auxiliary of Hose Company #3 in Greensburg, Bell Telephone Pioneers, and the AARP. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Lawrence and John. She is survived by a brother, Walter P. and his wife, Dorothy Cummins, of Monroeville; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. William J. Fabel, of North Huntingdon, 79, on Monday, Dec. 27, 1999. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired industrial supply sales representative with Fairmont Supply Co. He was a member of the Forest Hills AARP and the Irwin VFW. Husband of 58 years to Mary M. "Sweetie" (Kreck) Fabel. Father of Sharon L. "Sherry" Mains and her husband, Harold, of Penn Hills. George E. Geyer, 87, of Scottdale Avenue, Scottdale, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 1999, at his residence. George was born in Scottdale, Dec. 8, 1912, a son of the late George W. Geyer, who passed away in 1936, and Alverna Mae Rice Geyer Myers, who passed away in 1984. George was the former proprietor of George Geyer & Son Excavating Co. He retired in the mid-1980's after working for many years throughout the Fay-West area. Years ago, George worked as a coal miner in the former Colonial Mines. George was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale. He enjoyed applying his carpentry and masonry skills as a hobby and also loved gardening, most noted for his delicious cantaloupes and tomatoes. George is survived by his loving family, his wife of 13 years, Mildred B. Engert Gray Geyer, whom he married June 7, 1986; a daughter, Doris J. Stoner and her husband, Robert, of Scottdale RD2; a son, Kenneth E. Geyer of Smithton RD1; a grandson, Jason J. Stoner and his wife, Jennifer, of Lexington, S.C.; and a stepbrother, Edward Myers of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Irene Raymond Geyer, on March 17, 1983. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Druann M. Gillis, 64, of Greensburg RD4 (Salem Township), died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 15, 1935, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late George E. and Viola Durst McCleery. She was a 1953 graduate of the Jeannette High School, and attended the University of Maryland and Temple University before receiving her B.S. from Seton Hill College. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for more than 20 years as a medical technologist at the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was also a medical technology instructor at the Penn State New Kensington Campus, and continued to work part-time at JDMH. She was a member of the Westmoreland Girl Scout Council Evergreens Group, an active volunteer with the Delmont Salvation Army, and a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Delmont, where she served on the Church council, and chaired the Stewardship and the 150th Anniversary Celebration committees. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy McDowell. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Richard J. Gillis; a daughter and two sons, Beth Ann Gillis of Halifax, Va., Michael R. Gillis and his wife, Margaret "Maggie," of Greensboro, N.C., and Randy S. Gillis and his wife, Wendy, of Greensburg RD4; a brother, Philip E. McCleery of Waco, Texas; and three granddaughters and two grandsons, Grace Crouch of Halifax, Va., Sean and Caitlin Gillis of Greensboro, N.C., and Abigail and James "J.D." Gillis of Greensburg RD4. Mrs. Gillis's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. Ronald Jaffre, 64, of Herminie, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born April 3, 1935, in Coal Center, a son of the late Marcel A. and Mary M. (Lambert) Jaffre. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the Wendel-Herminie #2 Athletic Association, the Lowber V.F.D. Station #16 Firemen's Club, and the West Hempfield American Legion Post #53. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Jaffre, in 1971; three brothers, Marcel, Robert and Louis Jaffre; and two sisters, Emma Campbell and Mary Pastrnak. Mr. Jaffre, "Ron," is survived by a son, Ronald A. Jaffre and his wife, Dana, of Herminie; a grandson, Rickie; a brother, Maurice Jaffre of Jeannette; and a number of nieces and nephews. Othello Marie Butler, 92, of the St. Anne Home, Greensburg, where she had been a resident for the past four years, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Othello was born March 10, 1907, in Carrolltown (Cambria County), the daughter of the late Michael and Philomena (Hoppel) Beck. She married Meade E. Butler on Sept. 23, 1929, in New Kensington, where she made her home for 63 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1947; an infant daughter; and three brothers, Alton, James and William Beck. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Meade E. Butler Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of West Hills, Calif., and the Rev. Father John M. Butler of Connellsville; three grandchildren, Meade E. Butler III and his wife, Barbara, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Mary Carol Barritt and husband, James, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Robert Butler of New York City, N.Y.; and eight great-grandchildren. Othello was active throughout her life in many civil and church-related activities, including the Lions Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the March of Dimes, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Christian Mothers. Visitation will be held in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A parish wake service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. A blessing service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Connellsville, with her son, the Rev.
