Wilda Hare Konieczny, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Aug. 4, 1912, a daughter of the late William R. and Blanche Long Hare. She was a former student of the Mt. Pleasant schools, and had previously worked at the former Bryce Bros. Glass Factory in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the VFW Post 3368, Standard Shaft Citizens Club and the Slovak Club. Wilda was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens Multi-Service Center and was an active volunteer for the Meals-On-Wheels program. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Konieczny, in 1983; five brothers, Robert, George, Wilber, Gene and Donald Hare; and three sisters, Elizabeth Hare Yohe, Florence Hare Camlin and Ruth Hare Jahoda. She is survived by 27 nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; seven cats; and a dog, Mitzi. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sherry Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Middle Presbyterian Cemetery. The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW will hold services in the funeral home at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Emil J. Lucas, 73, of Mt. Pleasant RD1 (Norvelt), died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in IHS at Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. He was born in United, Oct. 25, 1926, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Popei Lucas. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a construction supervisor by the Union Switch and Signal of Swissvale, and previously worked for 15 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the Hecla Sportsmen's Club. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Margaret M. Medved Lucas; two sons, Jerry Lucas and his wife, Connie, of Greensburg and Thomas Lucas and his wife, Debra, of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Erica, Ian, Sean, Zachary, and Joshua; three sisters, Anna Wojtas of Ohio, Irene Schumann and Matilda Firmstone, both of Mt. Pleasant; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Friday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Military graveside service will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 94 of United and the Armbrust Veterans. Sandra L. Hoffer, funeral director.
Hilda V. McVay, 84, of Greensburg, formerly of Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Front Royal, Va., a daughter of the late Thomas W. and Myrtle Walton Morris. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Morris; and two sisters, Anna Gochenour and Madeline Atwood. She is survived by her husband, Cecil G. McVay. Arrangements are in the care of the JONES FUNERAL HOME, 228 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, VA 22601.
William Todd Morrow, 83, of Ligonier, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Wilpen, a son of the late William A. and IsaDora Emmert Morrow. Prior to his retirement in 1978, Todd had been employed by the maintenance department of the Valley School of Ligonier. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ligonier Lodge #331 F&AM, Coudersport Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Old Colony Sportsmen's Club, and Ligonier VFW #734. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Shirey Morrow, in 1994; three brothers, John, Max and Jay Morrow; and two sisters, Adele Featherson and Margaret Mimna. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Henry J. (Linda) Troy of Latrobe; a granddaughter, Tracy Troy; and a great-granddaughter, Rachael Knupp. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McCABE FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 W. Main St., Ligonier, where services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert D. Cummings officiating. Interment in Ligonier Valley Cemetery, Ligonier.
Hazel Dils Newcomer, 91, of Irwin (Country Hills), died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999. She was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Uniontown, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Florence (Smith) Dils. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob J. Newcomer; a daughter, Florence Franklin; two brothers, Eugene and Glenn Dils; and a sister, Mildred Dils. Survived by two sons, Robert Newcomer of Youngwood and William Newcomer of Palm Desert, Calif.; four daughters, Sally Altman of San Diego, Calif., Janet Long of Ruffsdale, Naomi Garris of Roselle, Ill., and Dorothy Booton of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Bunnell officiating. Interment Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
Dominick J. Niglio, 80, of Greensburg, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 3, 1919, in Fayette County, a son of the late Joseph and Angeline Vecchio Niglio. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a medic in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a steelworker for the former Union Steel of Pittsburgh. He had attended Our Lady of Grace Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, John and Richard Niglio; and a sister, Mary Dubble. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Florence Inesso Niglio; a son, Frank J. Niglio of Greensburg; a daughter, Angie Racculia and her husband, Mike, of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Nicholas M. and Laurie A. Racculia; three brothers, Anthony, Andrew and James Niglio; and two sisters, Margaret Bickel and Helen Schnelbach. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery.
Edward N. Parfitt, 67, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born April 24, 1932, in Fitz Henry, a son of Violet (Diehl) Parfitt of Scottdale and the late Edward Parfitt. Prior to his retirement, he was an agent for the Prudential Insurance Co. with 25 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with Company E of the National Guard, was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Latrobe, the American Legion Thomas B. Anderson Post 515, the Lloydsville Sportsmen's Club, the Frontier Club, and the Pymatuning Sportsmen's Club. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Charlotte M. (Firmstone) Parfitt; two children, Bruce E. Parfitt and his wife, Brenda, of Mt. Pleasant and Pamela Terrick and her husband, Michael, of Munhall; two grandsons, Bruce Allen Parfitt and Michael Andrew Terrick; and a brother, Robert Parfitt and his wife, Carole, of Scottdale. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the church pastors officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. Military services will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 331 Weldon St., Latrobe, PA 15650, or to the American Cancer Society.
John Robert "Potty" Spear, 96, of Derry, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1903, in Derry, a son of the late James Alexander and Sarah Elizabeth (Ashbaugh) Spear. He was a member of Derry First United Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a car inspector, working out of Conemaugh. A 1925 graduate of Derry Borough High School, he loved football and to box. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Alma S. Homer; a brother, James E.; and two sisters, Flora McKowen and Frances M. Spear. Surviving are his loving wife of 73 years, Rose Kuntz Spear; son, Robert R. (and his wife, Nancy G.) of Latrobe; three grandchildren, Bruce A. Homer, Wendy Harr and Sherry Dempsey; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. David D. Wilson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry Township.
Victor Peter Alexander, 68, of Murrysville, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999. He was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Glenshaw, a son of the late Peter Paul and Jane Sullivan Alexander. He retired as a manager for the Aardvark Machine and Tool Co., Turtle Creek, with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Bartoszewicz Alexander; a daughter, Carol L. Buterbaugh of Murrysville; two sons, Robert S. of Murrysville and Brian J. of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren; a brother, David Alexander; and two sisters, Gloria Haas and Jane McPhearson. Visitation Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in the Mother of Sorrows Church with Father Joseph Trupkovich as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville.
Louis "Uncle Lou" Charley, 83, of Greensburg, fell asleep in the Lord's arms, Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 29, 1916, in Greensburg, a son of the late George and Anna Joseph Charley. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the former Walworth Valve Co. of South Greensburg. He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, South Greensburg, and the Hilltop Social Club. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran during World War II, serving in the 1504th Army Air Force Base Unit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony, John, and Albert Charley; and a sister, Ann Vaupel. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by his wife, Margaret A. Salvatore Charley; a son, William A. and his wife, Nancy Charley, of Greensburg; and four grandchildren, Robert M. Charley, Patricia A. Charley, Donna M. Charley, and William L. Charley, all of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will begin in the funeral home Monday at 10 a.m. and will immediately continue at St. Michael's Orthodox Church, South Greensburg, with Archpriest John Nosal officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township, with full military honors accorded by the Greensburg VFW Post 33 Honor Guard. Memorial services will be held in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
