Dixie B. Mariana, 70, of Murray, Ky., formerly of Export, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, in the St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. She was born June 30, 1929, in Export, a daughter of the late Alonzo C. and Anna O. Rozina Mariana. She was self-employed as a realtor and prior to her retirement, had owned and operated her own real estate agency, "Dixie Realty," in Las Vegas, Nev., for a number of years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur R. "Buster" Mariana. She is survived by a sister and a brother, Dorothy M. Karas of Delmont and William E. Mariana and his wife, Lucille, of Manor; by several nieces and nephews; and by a close friend and companion, Allen Jackson of Murray, Ky. Funeral services will be private. Miss Mariana loved traveling and her family, and has suggested that memorial remembrances in her name may be placed with any local library for the purchase of books and other travel related literature. William L. Martin, 59, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 7, 1940, in Connellsville, a son of the late Harry B. "Pepper" and Eugenia G. Kuhns Martin. He lived at Melcroft in his earlier years. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School in 1958, and was a member of King Solomon's Lodge #346 Free and Accepted Masons of Connellsville. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Pittsburgh Ski Club. He was a retired painting contractor with M&S Special Coatings, a family business. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marie M. Naccarato Martin; also the following children: Teressa Martin of Pittsburgh, Robin Savage of Pittsburgh, Nick Savage and wife, Deborah, of Monessen and Michael Savage and Christina of Greensburg; grandchildren, Nicole Lynn Savage of Monessen and Nina Rae Savage of Ocala, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Angus; a sister, Mrs. John (Kay) Ewing of Greensburg; and two nieces, Robin Lynn Baer and Kyla Lynn Baer. Friends will be received at the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Sunday and Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Huey officiating. Committal and interment
will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. King Solomon's Lodge #346 F&AM will conduct a memorial ritual at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Loretta G. McGrath, 74, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in the Loyalhanna Care Center, Derry Township. She was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Loyalhanna, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Josephine (Baum) Cicconi. Loretta was a retired real estate professional, was a former member of the Central Westmoreland Board of Realtors, and was a member of the Christ United Church of Christ in Latrobe. She was also the owner and operator of the former Loretta's Beauty Shop in Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. McGrath, in 1992. She is survived by three children, Thomas J. McGrath and his wife, Helen, of Rockville, Md., Michael P. McGrath and his wife, Karla, of Norfolk, Va., and Robin Jo Fritz and her husband, Richard, of Latrobe; four very special grandchildren, Matthew and Jason McGrath, and Melissa Jo and Bradley Fritz; two brothers, Gilbert Cicconi and his wife, Bette Lou, of Latrobe and Robert "Chick" Cicconi and his wife, Eleanor, of Ligonier; a very close friend, Doris Herald of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Christ United Church of Christ with her pastor, the Rev. Wayne D. Sautter, officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.
Josephine A. Mika, 67, of Latrobe, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. She was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Frank Chesla Sr. and Josephine Walchock Chesla. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a custodian by the Greater Latrobe School District. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Latrobe. Josephine was a wonderful mother, an outstanding wife and a caring friend. Josephine was also an avid bingo player. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Chesla, in 1970. She is survived by her loving husband, Francis J. Mika; her children, George Mika of Latrobe, Mrs. William (Karen) Gerhart of Crabtree and Mrs. Scott (Sandra) Campbell of Latrobe; nine grandchildren, Jodi, Patrick, Amber, Connie, Justin, BJ, Jennifer, Daniel and Sara; two great-grandsons, Patrick and Aaron; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Nara Chesla of Anchorage, Alaska, Frank "Fish" Jr. and Shirley Chesla of Latrobe, Thomas and Bonnie Chesla of Derry, and Nick Chesla of Ypsilanti, Mich.; four sisters, Helen Parfitt of Moyock, N.C., Katherine McDowell of Latrobe, Mrs. George (Mary Ann) Caldwell of New Florence and Mrs. Bud (Betty) Gaffey of Luxor; several special bingo buddies; and her beloved dog, Lucky. Friends will be received at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services are private.
Albeno Reck, 82, of Export, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999. He was born June 28, 1917, in Homer City, a son of the late Louis and Angela Reck. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Italian-American Club, both in Export. He was a World War II veteran, and a retired employee of Pittsburgh Aluminum Alloys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Tony, Levio and Sereno Reck. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Rose Morelli Reck; a son, Gary and wife, Debra, of Export; a sister, Ann DeZanet of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a granddaughter, Nicole. Friends will be received at the EDWIN N. WOLFE FUNERAL HOME INC., Export, Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Export, with the Rev. Mary E. Semianczak, 84, of Yukon, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at home. She was the mother of Alice Young of West Newton and Martha Stewart of Irwin. Sister of Mike Waleski, Anthony Waleski, Helen Siegfried, Madeline Romano, Catherine Walton, Ann Vierlind, Dorothy Reynolds, and Nellie Cipos. Grandmother of Tammy Galensky and James L. Young Jr. Great-grandmother of Tyler James Young. She was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Cavey; two brothers, Wassil Waleski and John Waleski; and an infant grandson, Robert James Young. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., 404 Sewickley Ave., Herminie, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Seven Dolors Roman Catholic Church, Yukon, with Father Paul R. Frederick John Stahlhut, 78, of Ligonier RD2, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Swissvale, the son of the late Elmer and Mildred Scott Stahlhut. He is survived by several loving cousins. Prior to retirement, he had been employed as an inventory supply clerk at Idlewild Park. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a life member and past commander of the Ligonier VFW Post #734, a life member of the Byers-Tosh #267 American Legion, the D.A.V., and was a member for many years of the Ligonier Township Hose Co. #2 (Darlington). Friends will be received in the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL HOME INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier, Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald A. Brown officiating. Interment Ligonier Valley Cemetery, Ligonier. Memorial gifts may be made to any local Ligonier veterans organization. The Ligonier Valley Veterans Honor Guard will accord full military honors at the graveside.
Michael D. Cignetti, 48, of Jeannette, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at his residence. He was born Aug. 9, 1951, in Greensburg, a son of Frank J. Cignetti and the late Anna Gendich Cignetti. He was the general manager of operations and accounts for the Justifacts Inc. of Delmont. Mike was a member of the St. Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church of Jeannette, a charter member of the former Jeannette Jaycees and held various offices in state and local Jaycees. He also was a past president of the former Delmont Kiwanis. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a brother, Terrance R. Cignetti. Including his father, Mike is survived by a daughter, Keirsten Nicole Cignetti; and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Marie Cignetti, both of Jeannette; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Archbishop Kyrill officiating. Frances L. Hobaugh Dias, 80, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her residence. She was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Paintertown, a daughter of the late W.J. and Mary T. (Kuhns) Hobaugh. She was a receiving clerk at Joseph Horne Co., Greengate Mall. She was a member of Paintertown Evangelical Lutheran Church and Paintertown W.E.L.C.A. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Dias; and by a loving uncle, Scott W. Hobaugh. Survived by a son, Wesley M. Dias and wife, Angel, of Gibsonia; two daughters, Claudia Dias at home and Kathleen DeWitt and husband, Robert, of Chalk Hill, Pa.; a brother, James L. Hobaugh of Delmont; and two grandsons, Robert V. DeWitt and Gary R. DeWitt. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Paintertown Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dorothy J. "Dottie" Steel Pekar, 66, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 10, 1933, in Irwin, a daughter of the late Jabez and Sarah Daugherty Steel. She was a banquet waitress for the Holiday Inn, Parkway East, for 23 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Irwin, the church choir and the Happy Methodist. Also, she was a member of the Herminie Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Paanan, Ruth Dence, Bette Reiter, Jane Lavelle, Harriet Hobaugh, and Leona Speck; and two brothers, Harry and Jabez Steel. Survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles Pekar; a daughter, Cindy Neil and her husband, John, of Shaler Township; a son, Charles M. Pekar and his wife, Nancy, of Irwin; two granddaughters, Michelle Lynn and Jennifer Lynn Pekar; two grandsons, John Curtis Neil II and Andrew Charles Neil; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank W. Sherman officiating. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon.
