Marjorie R. Long, 84, of Ruffsdale RD2, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Joyce Long in Colver, Pa. Born April 21, 1915, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Richard G. and Jennie J. Graham Lewis. She was a member of the St. Paul's Seanor Lutheran Church and the church choir. She was also associated with the Salvation Army and attended its Bible College in New York City from 1940 to 1941. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ormond F. Long; and three sisters, Elizabeth Riser, Tressa Mock, and Bronwen Lewis. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Long of Charleston, W.Va., and Daniel Long of New York City, N.Y.; a daughter, Joyce Long of Colver, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Gerald Long of Ruffsdale RD2, David Long of New Stanton, Thomas Long of Oxford, Mass., and Ormond C. Long of Mt. Pleasant; and three brothers, David Lewis of Winona, Mo., Richard Lewis of Whittier, Calif., and William Lewis of Chicago, Ill. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Paul's Seanor Lutheran Church, Hempfield Township, with her pastor, the Rev. L. Samuel Scheiderer, officiating. Interment will follow in the Madison Union Cemetery.
Kenneth R. Orbin, 82, of Youngwood, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. He was born Oct. 2, 1917, in Youngwood, a son of the late George W. and Mary N. Youger Orbin. He was retired from Robertshaw. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Youngwood, the United Methodist Men, Senior Citizens, and Administrative Board and Lay Speaker, all of the church, a member and past president of Youngwood Lions Club, and Lions District Governor of 14E from 1973-74. He received the Lion of the Year Award 1982-83, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, and the International Presidential Award. Also, he was a member of the State Council of the Lions Club, past president of the Medical Eye Bank of Western Pa., past borough secretary of Youngwood, past councilman of Youngwood, original board member of Youngwood Park & Pool, a member of the United Steelworkers Union, Robertshaw Retirees, and a board member of the Rehabilitation Center and Workshop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Weibel Orbin; sisters, Mary Elder and Pauline Orbin; and brothers, George, Alfred, Ralph, and Robert Orbin. Survived by his wife, Laverne Lind Orbin; a son, Dennis R. Orbin and wife, Shirley S., of South Greensburg; two brothers, Charles Orbin and wife, Mary, of Youngwood and Paul Orbin of Hunker; two stepgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood. Service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Christ United Methodist Church, Youngwood, with the Rev. Dr. Merritt Edner officiating. Interment Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. Lions Club will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions to the Christ United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
P. Arthur Rosendahl, 88, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Irwin, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Ocala. He was born Sept. 15, 1911, in Irwin, a son of the late Julius V. and Bertha C. Eckberg Rosendahl. Prior to retirement, he, along with his late wife, Helen Rosendahl, owned and operated the Rosendahl Jewelry Store, Irwin, which was founded by his father. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Ocala, and a charter member of the Norwin Rotary Club. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Julius C. Rosendahl; and a sister, Elenor Babian. He is survived by his wife, Ida Adams Rosendahl; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Adams of Chicago, Ill.; a stepson, Joseph Adams III of Royal Oak, Mich.; two sisters, Alberta Walker of Brooksville, Fla., and Virginia Huffman of Homosassa, Fla.; also nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Irwin Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon, with the Rev. Norman E. Nething officiating. The WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, is in charge of arrangements.
Carl D. Stahl, son of Charles R. Stahl and Dorothy E. Stahl, both of Latrobe, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, as a result of complications of diabetes. He was born March 21, 1958, in Latrobe. He was a member of Latrobe United Presbyterian Church, currently a student at Westmoreland County Community College, and a graduate of Latrobe High School, Class of 1976. He was a former member of the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department, a member of F.O.E. #01188, Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Department, AMVETS Post 94 of United and a social member of American Legion Post 515. Carl was interested in theater and before his illness he was affiliated with the Ligonier Valley Players, Apple Hill Playhouse, and Palace Theatre in various capacities. He was also a member of the Ligonier Valley Writers. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, John D. and Cora E. Earnest; and paternal grandparents, Carl H. and Constance Stahl. In addition to his parents, he is survived by an uncle, Robert Stahl of Ellwood City; aunts, Betty Carpenter of Washington, Pa., and Louise Coughenour of Lakeland, Fla. He is also survived by several cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Carl to the Dialysis Unit, Latrobe Area Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, or a charity of one's choice. There will be no funeral home visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. in the United Presbyterian Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Donald Graff officiating. The HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, is in charge of arrangements.
Matilda Gross Teeters, 71, of Jeannette, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late John and Mary Hayes Morgan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Timothy Gross; and two brothers, John "Jack" Morgan and Clyde "Bud" Morgan. She is survived by four sons, Harry L. Gross Jr. and his wife, Kathy, and Gary A. Gross and his wife, Bonnie, all of Latrobe, John C. Gross and his wife, Christina, and Paul Teeters Jr. and his wife, Rachel, all of Jeannette; a daughter, Kimberly Clougherty and her husband, John, of Greensburg; three sisters, Mary Agnes Struzzi and her husband, Bruno, Evelyn "Brownie" Lang and Donna Yates, all of Jeannette; a brother, Patrick Morgan of Jeannette; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Roy Dail officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
Phoebe Gray Davis, 83, of West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2000, at her residence. Phoebe was born in Vanderbilt, July 10, 1916, a daughter of the late Albert and Bessie Barricklow Gray. Phoebe was a loving mother and grandmother to her family. Years ago, Phoebe was an employee with the former National Distillery at Broadford. She also worked as a secretary with the Dunbar Township High School and served as a receptionist and secretary at the former Aaron's Furniture Store in Connellsville. Phoebe was also noted for being a respected piano teacher in the Scottdale area. She was a longtime member of the Everson Evangelical Church and served faithfully as the church organist for 37 years. She was also a Sunday school teacher of the Friendship Circle Class and served as director of the Youth Choir. Phoebe was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #383 of Scottdale, where she served as organist for 10 years and was a member of the Advisory Board for International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She graduated from Dunbar Township High School with the Class of 1933 and attended the Uniontown Secretarial School. Phoebe is survived by her loving family, two daughters, Cheryl Swackhamer and her husband, Richard Swackhamer, of Madison, Ohio, and Sue Ann Herd and her husband, Dr. Phillip Herd, of Acme; four grandchildren, Amy and Tyson Swackhamer, and Lauren and Janine Herd; a sister, Lilburn "Sue" Martin of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Phoebe was preceded in death by her devoted husband, M. Arnold Davis on March 10, 1999; and a brother, Lester Gray. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Donald Blair "Hat" Deemer, 46, of Avonmore, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1953, in Salina, a son of Blair V. and Marjorie L. Bortz Deemer of Salina Perrysville Road. He had been employed for 20 years as a roll turner with National Roll in Avonmore. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survived by his parents; two daughters, Samantha Lynn Augusta and Lindsay Dawn Deemer, both of Avonmore; a sister, Anna Mae Sokolowski and her husband, Dave, of Natrona Heights; two brothers, Robert A. Deemer and his wife, Renisa, of Cape Cod, Mass., and William L. "Bill" Deemer and his wife, Virginia, of Salina; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 400 Indiana Ave., Avonmore. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Friday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Bortz, pastor of the United Church of Christ, Apollo, officiating. Mary D. DePree, 72, of Latrobe, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Robert N. and Julia E. Mattioli Colaianne. She was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe, and its Rosary Society. She was retired from Dainty Pastry Shoppe, Latrobe, and Mountain View Inn, Greensburg. Survived by her husband of 52 years, William K. DePree; two daughters, Dolores Yazvec and her husband, James, of Youngstown, Pa., and Patty Roudebush and her husband, Kent, of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Robert J. Colaianne and his wife, Juanita, of Latrobe; three sisters, Gloria Angus, Ermita Carrarini, and Carol Matuszky, all of Latrobe; four grandchildren, Tracey Withrow and her husband, Bill, Renee Hall and her husband, Shawn, Jimmy Yazvec and Ashley Yazvec; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Brandon, Marissa and Brianna; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special sister-in-law and friend, Lois Bennett of Latrobe. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Unity Township. Holy Family Rosary Society will recite the rosary Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Cecelia I. Finfrock, 75, of Irwin, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Salemville, Pa., a daughter of the late Raymond and Della Gower Shafer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Della Manno. She is survived by three sons, William G. Finfrock of Irwin, Donald E. Finfrock Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Merritt Island, Fla., and Timothy O. Finfrock of Jeannette; a daughter, Holly Connor and her husband, Jim, of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Shafer and his wife, Barbara, of Greensburg. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leonard Stoviak officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery.
Leon S. Hadfield, 91, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at home. He was born March 14, 1908, in Wilmerding, a son of the late John P. and Martha Jane Snively Hadfield. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a master's degree in economics, owner of Leon's Cafe, Larimer, and a member of the Loyal Order Moose Lodge #236, Irwin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Shoup Hadfield; two brothers, George Buchanan and Robert H. Hadfield; also a sister, Myrtle C. Yorty. He is survived by nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev.
