Jessie McGowan Lidey, 71, of West Newton, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, in her home. She was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Maidsville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Daniel and Izetta Dull McGowan. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde "Buck" Lidey on Feb. 16, 1998; three brothers, John, James and Daniel McGowan; and two sisters, Elizabeth Sethman and Pearl Daniels. Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Reed of Fairfield, Iowa, and Jackie Harmon at home; and six grandchildren. Friends will be received at the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., 334 Main St., Fayette City, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday until 11 a.m., the hour of services in the funeral home with the Rev. James R. Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
Joseph E. Smith, 84, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000. He was born Dec. 14, 1915, in Turtle Creek, a son of the late Joseph and Arminta Laura (Cressley) Smith. He was a retired manufacturing employee from Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta Klingensmith Smith, in 1955; his second wife, Pauline Sipes Smith, in 1971; four brothers, Albert, Wilbur, Howard, and Roy Smith; and three sisters, Hazel Hott, Esther Eves, and Helen Williams. Survived by his wife, Marie (Testa) Smith; a son, Joseph Smith Jr. and wife, Gloria, of Sumter, S.C.; two stepsons, Kenneth Sipes and Arthur Blasco and wife, Joanne, of Harrison City; two stepdaughters, Rose Marie Gaudi and husband, Jerry, of Jeannette and Ruthanne Busato and husband, John, of Jeannette; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Pershing Smith of Chatsworth, Calif.; a sister, Pearl McElroy of Penn Hills; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel Friday at 1:30 p.m. with Father Joseph Martin officiating. Interment Brush Creek Cemetery.
William B. Uschock, 77, of Greensburg RD5, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at home. He was born Dec. 8, 1922, in Weltytown, Pa., a son of the late Wassil and Barbara Kovacsik Uschock. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Trauger, a 1941 Hurst High School graduate, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, and also a member of the 20th Air Force Guam Group. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad and also was owner/operator of the Uschock Furniture Store. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Anna, Mary, Steve, and Mary Uschock, Michael Uschock, Julia Krivoniak, Anna Mizikar, Peter Uschock, and Catherine Argie; and a son-in-law, Peter M. Glott. Beloved husband of 54 years to Irene Johnson Uschock; and the loving father of the following children: William Michael Uschock and his wife, Carolyn, of Greensburg RD2, Irene Diane Santmyer and her husband, James, of Mt. Pleasant RD4, Patricia Jane Glott of Greensburg, David Ryan Uschock of New Stanton, and Richard Alan Uschock and his wife, Valerie, of Greensburg; eight grandsons, Michael, Gregory, Jason, Craig, Nicholas, Jim, Joshua, and Nicholas; and four granddaughters, Jennifer, Regina, Jillian, and Rebecca; and three sisters, Barbara Sylvester of Pleasant Unity, Sophie Segreti of Pittsburgh and Josephine Lawrence of Bolivar. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Panachida service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 9:15 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. Christopher R. Burke as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Trauger. Military graveside service will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 94 of United and the Armbrust Veterans. A Parastas service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. Sandra L. Hoffer, funeral director.
Frances Swatz Marunich Nase, 78, of New Kensington, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, in Citizens General Hospital, New Kensington. She was born in Cokeburg, Washington County, and had been a life resident of the local area, living in Russellton prior to moving to New Kensington. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Anthony Nase; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Carole Marunich) Amantea of North Huntingdon; two sons, George Marunich Jr. of North Huntingdon and Dan Marunich of Washington, Pa.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Raymond of Lawrence, Mass., and Mrs. Romeo (Irene) Battistone of Belle Vernon; and a brother, Michael Swatz of Union Beach, N.J. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Swatz; two brothers, Frank and Romme Swatz; and two sisters, Lillian Hegedus and Elizabeth Ozick. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street, Lower Burrell, where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Very Rev. Paul R. Ziatyk. Burial will follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township.
Richard C. Pfaff, formerly of Murrysville, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at his home in Clearwater, Fla. His family will hold a memorial service Friday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Christ's Lutheran Church on Route 286 in Murrysville. All those who knew and loved him are welcome to attend. Family members include a son, Kurt Pfaff of Greensburg; a daughter, Irene Holtzer of Bellvue, Colo.; a sister, Audrey Ferris of Murrysville; and a brother, William Pfaff of Tucson, Ariz. The service will include music by Irene Holtzer accompanied by her son, Caleb, on the violin.
Rune E. Nystrom, 76, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of Murrysville, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Gainesville, Fla. He was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Sweden, the son of the late John E. and Dorothy Marie Jonson Nystrom. He was a self-employed farmer and provided eggs for the Murrysville area for many years. He was a former member of the Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, Murrysville, and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Tallant Nystrom, in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nystrom of Orange City; and four children, Charles H. of Willoughby Heights, Ohio, Dorothy Jean Harvison of Irwin, John C. of Cassoday, Kan., and James A. of Titusville, Pa. Also 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. No visitation. A chapel service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, with the Rev. Kenneth White officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Dorothy J. Bold, 82, of Jeannette, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at her residence. She was born Aug. 2, 1917, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Feuster. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Vincent H. Bold, in 1989; and seven sisters. She is survived by two sons, David Bold of Pittsburgh and Richard Stead and his wife, Mary, of Annapolis, Md.; two grandchildren, Kathy Munsell and her husband, Hal, of Virginia and Christopher Stead of Colorado Springs, Colo. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 North Second St., Jeannette, beginning Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
Jessie B. Hobaugh, 98, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at her home. She was born April 20, 1901, in Paisley, Scotland, a daughter of the late Colin and Ellen Smith Ferguson. She was a member of the Miller United Methodist Church, North Versailles, and was a judge of elections for the Seventh Ward district. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hobaugh in 1969; and by 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by one son, John Hobaugh of Warrington, Pa.; two daughters, Jean Lessig of Columbus, N.C., and Eleanor Hobaugh of North Huntingdon; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Miller United Methodist Church, Route 30, North Versailles, with the Rev. Jay Langley officiating. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon. Dalton H. Pack, 65, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 30, 1934, in East McKeesport, a son of the late Samuel and Anna Mae Roebuck Pack. Prior to retirement he was employed as a wireman for USX Edgar Thompson works, Braddock. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. Surviving are two daughters, Dalsan and her husband Michael Zona of Irwin, and Rita and her husband Jay Conner of Leeper; a son, Richard D. and his wife Marianne Pack of Irwin; six grandchildren; three brothers, Samuel Pack of East McKeesport, Richard Pack of Jeannette and William Pack of McKeesport. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin, Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m., at which time a blessing service will be held in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
Caroline M. Predajna, 80, of New Stanton RD1, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born Dec. 31, 1919, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Anselm and Bertha Unruh Schmitt. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Davis Supermarket, Greensburg, as a baker, and was also employed at St. Anne's Nursing Home, Greensburg, as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel A. Predajna, in 1968. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Stephen C. Predajna Sr.; two sons, Edward C. Predajna of West Newton and Stephen C. Predajna Jr. of Champion; a daughter, Nadine P. Dahlmann and her husband, James Jr. of Greensburg; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Peter Schmitt of Irwin; and two sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Suess of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Robert (Annette) Stiles of New Jersey. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Jeffrey P. Paschal officiating. Interment will follow in the Seanors Church Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
