Virginia "Ginny" Baird McCune, 90, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Melbourne. She was born Dec. 9, 1909, in Blair County, a daughter of the late Nathan A. and Cecilia Morrison Baird. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel K. McCune Sr.; three sons, Samuel K. Jr., Kenneth and Robert McCune; three brothers, George, John and Charles Baird; and two sisters, Ann Anthony and Hester Brown. She is survived by two sons, Michael McCune of Pine Island, Fla., and William McCune of Jeannette; a daughter, Sally Forsythe of North Huntingdon and Melbourne, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Al Baird of Level Green; and a sister, Iddella Richard of St. Petersburg, Fla. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial blessing service will be held at 4 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Larimer V.F.D.
Edith Wuslich Monet, 88, of Export, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000. She was born Dec. 9, 1911, in Export, a daughter of the late Mile and Milica Yakovich Wuslich. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Monroeville, Serbian Circle of Sisters of Export, and the Export American Legion and the Export Moose auxiliaries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert "Albert" Monet; two brothers, Nick Rebich and Samuel Wuslich; and two sisters, Mara Visnich and Nellie Macha. She is survived by two brothers, Miller Wuslich of Export and Joseph Wuslich of Arizona; a sister, Mary Manovich of Export; a sister-in-law, Barbara Wuslich of Export; a nephew, George Rebich of Claridge; a niece, Marianne Shayka of North Huntingdon, whom she raised as her own; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the EDWIN N. WOLFE FUNERAL HOME INC., Export, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. Pomen service Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Mildred J. Rhoades Parker, 83, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born Oct. 20, 1916, in Derry, she was a daughter of the late Harry G. and Pearl Byers Reynolds. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Derry, and a member of its Mary Martha Class. Prior to retirement, she had been employed by Devereux Foundation in Downingtown. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Downingtown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl E. Rhoades; her second husband, John A. Parker; four sisters, Lillian Walters, Olive Bell Reynolds, Sylvia May Reynolds and Dorothy Kinkead; and three brothers, Frank, Glenn and Howard Reynolds. She is survived by a son, Carl E. Rhoades Jr. and his wife, Nancy S., of Downingtown; two daughters, Edith R. Albaugh and her husband, Carl T., of Derry and Betty L. Zsembik and her husband, Ronald A., of Derry; a brother, Paul Reynolds of Derry; two sisters, Hazel McQueeney of Erie and Mable Conrad of Derry; six grandchildren, Steven E. Zsembik, Kathy Z. McCune, Dianna Z. Kerr, David Albaugh, Danielle Rhoades and Amy Huch; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, where services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Wilson officiating. Interment in Coles Cemetery, Derry Township.
Michael B. Byrne, 62, of Greensburg, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at home. He was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Scottdale, a son of the late Frank Fuller and Helen Brennen Byrne. He was a retired social worker for the Commonwealth of Pa. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Cathedral for 32 years. Michael was a graduate of the University of Virginia and a U.S. Army veteran. Survived by his wife, Jean A. Duggan Byrne; two daughters, Julie Lewis and husband, Paul, of Woodbridge, Va., and Eve Phillips and husband, Taylor, of Greensburg; a son, Matthew Byrne of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Lauren, Pierce, Charlie and Colin; a sister, Virginia Lynn Hines and husband, Tom, of Dumfries, Va.; three brothers, Dennis Byrne and wife, Barbara, of Camp Hill, Pa., Terrence Byrne and wife, Kathy, of Towson, Md., and Kevin Byrne of Bethany, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will be received at the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, (724) 837-0020, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Blessing service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Julia Mae "Chad" Connelly, 90, formerly of Youngwood, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in Palm Harbor, Fla. She was born March 29, 1909, in Alverton, a daughter of the late William H. and Julliette Ann Bletner Quartz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Connelly; a daughter, Judy Ann Fleck; three brothers, Carl, William and Clay Quartz; and a sister, Emily Kennedy. She is survived by a son, Thomas Michael Connelly and wife, Peggy, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David S. Jack officiating. Interment in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg.
Charles H. Gaebel, 86, of Strawpump, North Huntingdon Township, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1913, in Butler, a son of the late Thomas E. and Florence Henderson Gaebel. He was a retired purchasing superintendent for Conrail. He was a member of the Manor Presbyterian Church and an associate member of Christ United Presbyterian Church of North Huntingdon. He was a member of Shidle Lodge 601 F&AM, Irwin, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, M. Louise Kemerer Gaebel; two brothers, Edwin and Elmer Gaebel; and a sister, Dorothy Blair. He is survived by three sons, John C. Gaebel and his wife, Gerry, of Latrobe, Thomas J. Gaebel and his wife, Hope, of Irwin and Ralph W. "Tim" Gaebel and his wife, Kathy, of Jeannette; three grandchildren, Owen, Kurt and Rachelle Gaebel; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Linda K. (Hinish) Hood, 44, of Irwin (Herminie #2), died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 6, 1955, in Braddock, a daughter of William K. Hinish of Irwin and the late Elaine (Black) Hinish. Linda was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Norwin High School. In addition to her father, Linda is survived by her stepmother, Loretta (McKay) Hinish of Irwin; her husband of 18 years, Robert William Hood of Herminie #2; a son, Robert W. Hood, living at home; a daughter, Michelle Hood of Greensburg; two sisters, Darlene Rodman and her husband, Raymond, of Scottdale and Carolyn Dombrowski and her husband, David, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two stepsisters, Loretta Thomas and Margaret Browne, both of North Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Chuck F. Alpheus P. "Mike" Mitchell, 76, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at home. He was born July 1, 1923, in Greensburg, a son of the late Alpheus P. Sr. and Helen Terry Mitchell. He was a retired ironworker for American Bridge of Ambridge and a former owner of Outlet Pipe Co. of North Huntingdon. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local Union 3, Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was active with the NCAA organization during the 1970s, and had formerly bred, raised and showed beagles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Dittmer Mitchell. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Santoro of New Paltz, N.Y.; two sons, Terry C. Mitchell of Alexandria, Va., and Robert J. Mitchell of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren; a brother, John "Jack" Mitchell; and two sisters, Patricia Powell and Diane Mitchell, all of McKees Rocks; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Blanche J. Mitchell, 88, of Delmont, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She was born April 13, 1911, in Delmont, a daughter of the late John and Margaret J. Bierer Jones. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the Elliott Company in Jeannette. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Delmont and the Order of Eastern Star in Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary "Mayme" DeMint, Catherine Peoples, Anna Margaret Houston, and Rose Holmes; two brothers, Edward M. Jones, killed in action during World War II, and William J. Jones; and a grandson, James R. Brewer II, in 1955. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, John R. "Bob" Mitchell; a daughter, Mary Jane Brewer and her husband, James R., of New Alexandria RD1; a brother, Richard C. Jones of Greensburg; a sister, Dorothy Louise McMunn of Greensburg; a granddaughter, Jane E. Kelley and her husband, Joseph E. Sr., of New Alexandria RD1; a great-grandson, Joseph E. Kelley Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Jamie E. Kelley and her fiance, David Okopal; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mitchell's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. Jean Louise Tornblom O'Connor, 75, a resident of Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, formerly of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 17, 1924, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Henry D. "Hawk" and Ruth Foreman Tornblom. She was a retired secretary for Westinghouse Research and Development Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin and a graduate of Norwin High School, Class of 1942. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence B. O'Connor; and a sister, Betty Wilson. She is survived by a brother, David H. Tornblom of Camp Hill, Pa.; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert C. Hill officiating. Entombment will follow in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
