John David "J.D." Heltebran, 90, of Smithton RD, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born May 10, 1909, in South Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Hixson Heltebran. He was former owner of the two Gulf service stations in Connellsville; owner of Heltebran's Garage and Service Station, Smithton; a substitute mail carrier for the Smithton Post Office; formerly employed at Pritt's Feed and Supply, Smithton; a surplus food administrator for eight years in Greensburg; and a tax assessment officer for seven years in Greensburg and Westmoreland County, from which he retired. He was a member of the Hilltop United Methodist Church, Madison, for over 50 years, served on its board of trustees for 18 years and was president for 12 years. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 978 and the Waltersburg Lodge for 40 years; the Gummert Lodge 252 F&AM of Fayette City; the Coudersport Consistory; a volunteer emergency medical technician; founder and charter member of the Smithton-South Huntingdon Township Ambulance Service, where he served for 26 years as president and treasurer; a board member of the Hoffman Cemetery ; and a board member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association, Uniontown. He was also a Democratic committeeman and chairman for South Huntingdon Township for 25 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Newlin Heltebran; a brother, Leroy Heltebran; and two sisters, Mae Heltebran Snyder and Alice Marie Heltebran Beckinger. He is survived by his wife, Judith M. Heltebran; two sons, Larry and his wife, Karen, of Smithton and Lee and wife, Elizabeth, of West Newton RD; a daughter, Linda Tompkins and husband, Wade, of Herminie; a sister, Bland Sarsfield of Herminie; two brothers, Joseph and his wife, Vera Belle, of Belle Vernon RD3 and William of Akron, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Tim Legazza of Smithton and Richard Legazza and wife, Lori, of Star Junction; a step-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second Street, Smithton. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Hilltop United Methodist Church, Madison, with Pastor Lawrence Raughley III officiating. Additional viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Masonic service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Catherine D. Kinneer, 73, of Acme, died late Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 at Acme in the home of her daughter, with whom she was residing at the time. Catherine was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Kukol Janesko. She was a resident of the Acme area for most of her life and was a graduate of the former East Huntingdon High School. Prior to retirement, she worked as a secretary for the Tlumac Insurance Agency and later in the office of Magistrate Peg Tlumac. Catherine was a member of St. Raymond of the Mountain Roman Catholic Church, Donegal, and it's Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Birthday Girls Club of Donegal. She is survived by two daughters, Elaine White and her husband, Robert, and Noreen Brady and her husband, Patrick, all of Acme; two sons, Neil Kinneer Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Acme RD2 and Brian Kinneer and his wife, Brenda, of Acme RD1; eight grandchildren, Shannon Fess of Mt. Pleasant, Cale White, Johanna Golkasky, and Jill Brady, all of Acme, Krista Kinneer of Frederick, Md., David, Stephen, and Stacy Kinneer, all of Acme; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brett Fess of Mt. Pleasant; and a brother, George Janesko of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Neil E. Kinneer; and three sisters, Elizabeth Smithula, Irene Blanda and Margaret Uhring. Friends will be received in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Raymond of the Mountain R.C. Church, Donegal, with the Rev. John Harrold as celebrant. A committal service and interment
will follow in the Brown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 700, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
Ernest D. Lutz, 74, of Youngwood, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Greenwalt, a son of the late Charles F. and Alice E. Betler Lutz. He was president of Lutz Oil Co. of Youngwood since 1987 and prior to that he was a driver for the company owned by his parents. He was a member of St. Luke's Church of Youngwood, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Slovak American Club of Hecla. He is survived by a son, Edward E. Lutz and wife, Tanna, of Youngwood; three grandchildren, Tara, Eddy and Tyler; two step-grandchildren, Trevor and Colton; a brother, Charles E. Lutz and wife, Margaret, of Hunker; a sister, Lois G. Lutz of Youngwood; a special friend, Eleanor Lutz; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Theodore Bessey officiating. Interment Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Pittsburgh, or to the Youngwood Library, 17 S. Sixth Street, Youngwood.
Mabel I. Porterfield, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, went to her eternal rest, Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Mabel was born March 2, 1917, at Laurelville, a daughter of the late Ira and Elizabeth Gordon Miller. She was a member of the Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren. She was a homemaker and a loving mother of her daughter, JoAnn Citro and her husband, Daniel, of Mt. Pleasant RD7; and her two granddaughters, Deanna Conte and husband, John, and Danielle Citro. She also has a sister, Kathryn Snyder of Orlando, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Eugene "Hoot" Porterfield, in 1988; a brother, Sherman Miller; and three sisters, Evelyn Marker, Florence Harbaugh and Ceclia Wilkins. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles D. Whipple officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Ridge Memorial Cemetery, Pennsville.
Ellen Sheakley, 97, of Greensburg, formerly of Jeannette, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in the Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born June 26, 1902, in Sturges, a daughter of the late James and June Potts. Prior to retirement, she worked at Jeannette Hardware Co. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Sheakley; and a sister, Jane Chisnel. She is survived by nieces and nephews, and many friends at Redstone Highlands. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Redstone Highlands, 6 Garden Center Drive, Greensburg, with the Rev. David D. Hunte officiating. Pauline M. Smola, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999. She was a resident of Harrison City until she moved to Florida in 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and William Smola. She is survived by a brother, Edward Smola of Harrison Park; and a sister, Blanche Fritzpatrick of Tallahassee, Fla. She is also survived by three nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces; two great-nephews; and a great-great-nephew. She also had a number of close family friends. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. There will be a memorial service for her Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, Harrison City. All are welcome.
Virginia M. Toomey, 86, of Greensburg, formerly of Park Ridge, N.J., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Bronx, N.Y., a daughter of the late David J. and Mary (Reardon) Mahoney. She was retired from Park Ridge Public Library and River Vale Public Library. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy, the Holy Rosary Society, and was a Girl Scout leader, all in Park Ridge, N.J. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Toomey; her stepmother, Loretta Mahoney; and a sister, Muriel Smith. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Reitano and husband, Fred, of Greensburg; two sons, John R. Toomey and wife, Carole, and William D. Toomey and wife, Marilee, all of New Jersey; seven grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Kathleen, Kerry, Joseph, Keith and Kevin; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Avery, and Nathan; two brothers, David J. Mahoney of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Robert Mahoney of New York; and several nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held Thursday in the SPEARING FUNERAL HOME, Park Ridge, N.J., (201) 391-6666. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Park Ridge, N.J. Interment will follow in Maryrest Cemetery, Darlington, N.J. Florence Olinzock Tucci, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Michael and Helen Rosky Olinzock. She was a member of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, and was a graduate of the Hurst High School class of 1940. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a machine operator at Williamhouse. She is survived by three sons, Robert Tucci and wife, Alice, of Baltimore, Md., James Tucci of Elkridge, Md., and William Tucci of Mt. Pleasant; two granddaughters, Jennifer Tucci Francis and Emily Howerton; and two great-granddaughters, Sydney and Jodi Howerton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mario Tucci, in February, 1996; and two sisters, Gertrude Kray and Stella Honeychuck. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. by her pastor.
Florence M. Zello, 74, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 24, 1925, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Zello. She was a former employee of Jeannette Glass and a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, the Rosary Altar Society of the church, and the Cercemaggiore Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Pete Zello; and a sister-in-law, Louise Zello. She is survived by two sisters, Genevieve Zello at home and Mrs. Kyle (Mary) Duncan of Hopewell, Va.; five brothers, Henry Zello, Anthony and his wife, Concetta Zello, James and his wife, Charlotte Zello, Patsy and his wife, Helen Zello, and Joseph and his wife, Judy Zello, all of Greensburg; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, with the Rev. Leonard W. Stoviak as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Rosary Altar Society will meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 3 p.m. to pray the rosary.
Kevin A. Zitcovich, 40, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at home. He was born Nov. 3, 1959, in Bethel Park, a son of John P. Sr. and Anna Mae Dienert Zitcovich of Bethel Park. He was an employee of the Youngwood Supply Inc., and a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, North Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Katherine Zitcovich and William and Ida Mae Dienert; and a daughter, Lindsay Margaret Zitcovich. He is survived by his wife, Polly L. Johnson Zitcovich; a son, Nicholas A. Zitcovich; a daughter, Sarah L. Zitcovich; two brothers, John Zitcovich and his wife, Linda, of Bradford Woods, and David Zitcovich and his wife, Phyllis, of Matthews, N.C.; two sisters, Donna Berrish and her husband, Rick, of Plum Borough, and Cindy O'Toole and her husband, Jim, of Bettendorf, Iowa; also many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Lutheran Church of Our Savior with the Rev.
