Virginia R. Barr, 80, of Jeannette, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born October 12, 1919, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Stanley and Julia Litrun Barr. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the former Jeannette Glass Co. She was a member of the St. Boniface Church of Penn and its Christian Mothers and Silver Threads Group. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Sister Rose Julia Barr; and a brother, Walter Barr. She is survived by two brothers, Frank Barr and Paul Barr and his wife, Mary, all of Jeannette; two nieces, Mary Louise Barr Britz and Virginia Ann Barr Pastor; a nephew, Paul Michael Barr Jr.; three great-nieces, Amy and Holly Britz and Stacy Pastor; and two great-nephews, James Britz and Greg Meholic. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Boniface Church. Interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The St. Boniface Christian Mothers and Silver Threads Group will pray the rosary Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
Jeffrey A. Brownfield, 40, of Indiana County, formerly of Greensburg, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000. He was born May 7, 1959, in Greensburg, a son of Patricia Provins of Hostetter and the late William S. Brownfield. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Greensburg. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Robert G. Diehl. In addition to his mother, he is survived a son, Jeremy A. Brownfield of Greensburg; two brothers, William D. Brownfield and Robin H. Brownfield and his wife, Kay, all of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Kathleen Sue Brownfield and Sharon Brownfield, both of Greensburg; and the following nieces and nephew, Patricia and Megan Culbertson, Melissa and Mary Crimboli, Stefan Smolcik and Rachel Brownfield. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carenda D. Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
Marie D. Bush, 75, of Delmont, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born March 22, 1924, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Mary E. Gressman Ubinger. Prior to retirement, she had been employed for more than 20 years at the Shop 'n Save on Route 66, Greensburg. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Delmont, and the Delmont Women's Club, and volunteered at the Delmont Public Library. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Preston B. "Hammy" Bush, in 1996; a son, James B. "Shrub" Bush in 1996; and two brothers, Paul J. and Bernard K. Ubinger. She is survived by a son and a daughter, Linda M. Collins and her husband, Kenneth, of Export RD1, and David R. Bush at home; a daughter-in-law, Diana R. Chamberlain Bush of Delmont; a sister, Lillian Spoonhoward of Herminie; two brothers, William J. Ubinger and his wife, Nancy, of Tucson, Ariz., and Gilbert S. Ubinger and his wife, Ange, of Jeannette; and four grandchildren, Jodi Susick and her husband, Sean, of Greensburg RD4, Lisa Collins of Export RD1, and Jason and Debra Bush of Delmont. Mrs. Bush's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. BASH FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, (724) 468-8381, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held in the Salem Lutheran Church, Delmont, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Frederick C. Heitzenroder, officiating. Interment will be private.
Miriam L. Douglass, 80, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in the Edgewood Nursing Center, Unity Township. She was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Wallace B. and Nore (McQuown) Grube. She was a member of the Hempfield Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wallace; and three sisters, Lorna, Genevieve and Frances. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Russell W. Douglass; two sons, Gary Douglass and David Douglass and his wife, Kim, all of Latrobe; three grandchildren, Kathy, Christy and Craig; and a great-granddaughter, Abby. There will be no visitation. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. in the Hempfield Church of Christ, Greensburg RD12, with the Rev. Bill Pullin and the Rev. John Slatt co-officiating. Interment will be private. The HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, (724) 537-5575, is in charge of arrangements.
Stanley A. Dreliszak, 77, of Scottdale RD1 (Dreliszak Road), died unexpectedly, Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at his residence. He was born April 4, 1922, in Morewood, a son of the late Albert and Anna Siemanowska Dreliszak. Stanley was a lifelong member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. He was a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for several years. For many years, Stanley farmed with his family at the Dreliszak family farm, East Huntingdon Township. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces, serving with the U.S. Army during World War II with Troop G, 5th Calvary, attaining the rank of Tec. 4. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Army Occupational Medal (Japan), the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Stanley leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted brothers and sisters, Mrs. Michael (Catherine) Kaczmarek of Mt. Pleasant, Genevieve Dreliszak of Scottdale RD1, with whom he resided, Josephine Patula and her husband, Carl, of Mt. Pleasant, Leona Dreliszak of Scottdale RD1, with whom he resided, and Jane Hendricks and her husband, Paul, of Scottdale RD1; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Casimer Dreliszak, who died Jan. 2, 1987, Alvin J. Dreliszak, who died Jan. 19, 1993, Leo J. Dreliszak, who died Oct. 29, 1994, John E. Dreliszak, who died Jan. 15, 2000; and a sister, Bernice Lukasik, who died Aug. 3, 1995. Friends will be received in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Transfiguration R.C. Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Robert Washko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Transfiguration R.C. Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Earl E. "Jinx" Harris Jr., 39, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home. He was born July 13, 1960, in Latrobe, a son of Carol (Loughner) Staniscia and the late Earl E. Harris. He was a member of the Hostetter Club and the Baggaley Fire Company Social Club. Survived by his wife, Susan (Finley) Harris; his mother, Mrs. Carol Staniscia and husband, Victor, of Blairsville; three daughters, Amanda Harris of Seger, Pa., Mellisa Harris and Samantha Harris, both of Latrobe; a son, Victor Harris of Latrobe; a sister, Mrs. Martin (Marjorie) Gira of Irwin; three brothers, Mr. James Harris and wife, Susan, of Latrobe, Mr. William Harris and wife, Susan, of Torrance, and Terry Staniscia of Blairsville; and two nephews, James Harris Jr. and Nicholas and Alexander Gira. Preceded in death by his father, Earl E. Harris Sr.; and a sister, Carol Ann Harris. Friends will be received at the JAMES F. Marcella (Mazik) Kinkella, 88, formerly of Greensburg, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Mon Valley Hospital, Monongahela. She was born April 20, 1911, in North Braddock, a daughter of Martin and Mary (Zahradnik) Mazik. She was an assistant manager at Howard Johnson's, Pleasant Valley, retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Carbon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Kinkella; 11 brothers; and a grandson. Survived by two sons, Joseph J. Kinkella of Belle Vernon and Martin Kinkella of Export; a daughter, Marcella Mains of Chalfont, Pa.; a sister, Cecelia Lescinsky of North Braddock; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, Carbon, with Father Leonard Stoviak as celebrant. Interment Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
Alice M. Helbling, 81, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in UPMC Shadyside. She was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Harry and Alice Devine Williams. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Unertl Optical. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon, and its Christian Mothers and Emerald Club. Also she was a member of AARP. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Helbling; and a daughter, Mary Alice Kozlowski. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred "Millie" Rain of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren, Mary Lynn Fick, David J. Kozlowski, Sandra Kozlowski and Michelle Rain; and two great-grandchildren, Josh and Chase. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. in North Side Catholic Cemetery. Christian Mothers and the Emerald Club will recite the rosary Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Mary E. Kreiger Dempsey, 75, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born March 30, 1924, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Adam and Helen Kessler Kreiger. She was a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church, Madison; the AARP Chapter 3221, North Huntingdon; the Pinsaver Bowling League; the Help Weight Class; and the Wives of Sub Vets of World War II. She also served as a volunteer at the Aspinwall VA Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Dempsey; a daughter, Patricia Ann Dempsey; and a grandson, John Matthew Harskowitch. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Logan and her husband, James, of New Stanton and Barbara Harskowitch and her husband, Robert, of North Huntingdon; two sons, Walter A. Dempsey Jr. and his wife, Toni, of North Huntingdon and Ray L. Dempsey and his wife, Donna, of Greensburg; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Lish of Turtle Creek; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Lawrence Raughley III and Mary's granddaughter, the Rev. Paula Jo Logan, co-officiating. Interment will follow in Madison Union Cemetery.
Rudy J. Thomas, 75, of Export, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1925, in East Pittsburgh, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Karljevic Thomas. He retired from Westinghouse Nuclear Energy Center, Monroeville, with 35 years of service. He was a Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, and the American Legion, Trafford. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward J. Thomas, in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Petrina Thomas; a brother, James Thomas of McMurray; and 20 nieces and nephews. Visitation Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville. Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville.
