Betty Jean Vozel, 73, of Irwin (Herminie #2), died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late William and Theresa (Tartler) Watt. Mrs. Vozel "Betty Jean" was a homemaker. Her memberships included the Herminie #2 United Methodist Church, a social member of Herminie VFW Post #8427, and the Herminie S.N.P.J. Lodge #87. Betty Jean is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ludwig "Lud" Vozel; two daughters, Kerry Parish and her husband, Billy, of Newport, N.C., and Teri Schutter of Acme; four grandchildren, Vincent, Jeremy, Jason, and Jamie; three great-grandchildren, Vincent, Emily, and Madeline; a brother, William Watt of Latrobe; a sister, Doris Drop of North Huntingdon; a number of nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Charles Nicholas of Marietta, Ga. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Coles and Catherine Nicholas. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Rick Helsel officiating.
Daisy J. Harrold, 79, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in the St. Paul Homes, Greenville, Pa. She was born May 5, 1920, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late James R. and Hattie Walthour Jordan. She was a member of St. John Harrold United Church of Christ, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Harrold, on March 1, 1998; by a brother, Clifford Jordan; and a sister, Pearl Rosensteel. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce and her husband, George "Denny" Franklin, of Crawford, Neb.; two grandchildren, Darin Franklin of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lisa Aschwege of Millboro, S.D.; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Alyssa Dodd; and a sister, Viola Love of Greensburg. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul L. Westcoat Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
Cecelia M. Herrington, 91, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. She was born July 6, 1908, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Anthony and Michelena Sheminsky. She was a member of St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe. She was a loving and devoted mother to her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George G. Herrington; a brother, Edward Simms; and seven sisters, Pauline Rynkowsky, Julia Zuchowsky, Helen Burke, Frances Burke, Stella Smith, Agnes Musho and Wanda LaBensky. Survivors include a son, George E. Herrington of Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Mary Lou Kunkle and her husband, Thomas, Nancy A. Herrington and Gloria Christoff and her husband, Michael, all of Latrobe; a sister, Catherine Mitchell of Latrobe; seven grandsons, Michael and Gregory Christoff, and Marc, Scott, Thomas, Christopher and Devlin Herrington; four great-grandchildren, Cody, Leah, Carleigh and Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent Basilica. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Unity Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Vincent Basilica Parish or the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation.
Eulah (Lee) Strader Isaac, 96, of West Newton, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born in Ruffin, N.C., the daughter of the late Ellis Lee and Caroline Graves Lee. She resided in Fitz Henry, Pa., for many years; and was a member of the St. James Baptist Church there, where she served as past president of the Missionary Circle, a member of the Quilting Auxiliary, and the Kitchen Committee. She was the Church Mother. She was honored in 1988 by the W.H. & F.M. of the Y.W.B.A. for her many years of service. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands, Robert Strader Sr. and Wesley Isaac; two children, Lettie Edwards and Robert Strader Jr.; and a brother. Surviving are a daughter, Mona Ray of Kankakee, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Helena Strader of West Newton, Bruce Ray and wife, Moretta, Beverly Steward, Ingrid Ava Fortenberry, and Lettie Bust, all of Kankakee, Ill., the Rev. Leslie Strader and wife, Mary Ann, of Vanderbilt, Robert Strader and wife, Mary, of Fitz Henry, Derrick Edwards and wife, Janet, of Pittsburgh, and Woody Bush of Chicago, Ill.; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Friends will be received in the St. James Baptist Church, Fitz Henry, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., where services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Calvin Brooks officiating. Interment Olive Branch Cemetery, Smithton. Arrangements under the direction of the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 E. Main St., Uniontown.
G. Erric King, 72, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born March 11, 1927, in Tillicoultry, Scotland, a son of the late James and Janet King. Erric was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, where he had held the offices of elder, trustee, and deacon. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a mechanical engineer for Allegheny Power, and prior to immigrating to the United States in 1976, he was an engineering manager with a paper manufacturing company in the U.K. A veteran of the British Corps of Engineers, he served in the Middle East during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Winnie King; his daughter, Evelyn; two grandchildren; his sister, Ena in Scotland; his brother, James in South Africa; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service Sunday at 2 p.m. in Unity Chapel, Unity Township, with the Rev. Dr. David B. Batchelder officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bruno Ferrari Cancer Center, Latrobe Area Hospital, West Second Avenue, Latrobe, PA 15650, or to the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, 428 Main St., Latrobe, PA 15650. Park R. Monticue, 83, of Stahlstown, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born April 15, 1916, in Stahlstown, a son of the late Nathan and Elizabeth Larimer Monticue. He was retired from Vasco, now Allegheny Teledyne, Latrobe. Park was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Stahlstown, and had been a driver for the Chestnut Ridge Meals-on-Wheels. He was an avid baseball player, and in his younger years had been scouted as a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He belonged to the Ridgeview Golf League and really enjoyed golfing. Park was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Ankney Monticue (Sept. 26, 1996); and the following brothers and sisters: Elmer, Byron, Robert, Clair, Emory, Elwood, Maude, Pearl, Lula, Elsie, Viola, Daisy and Grace. He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Leonard and her husband, Bob, of Greensburg (Mountain View) and Pam Murphy and her husband, Terry, of Laughlintown; five grandchildren, Nickole Leonard DeChellis, Gregory and Donna Leonard and Sean and Kate Murphy; four great-grandchildren, Devin and Tyler DeChellis, Laura Ashley and Connor Murphy; and a sister, Loretta Peden of Ligonier. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC. & CREMATORY, Bell and East Church streets, Ligonier. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Trinity U.M. Church, Stahlstown, with the Rev. Audrey J. Bell officiating. Everyone go directly to the church. Clara Hughes McFadden, 87, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. She was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Thomas and Hannah Wagner Hughes. Prior to her retirement, she was a 42-year employee of General Tire and Rubber Co. in Jeannette. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. Survived by her husband of 72 years, Fred R. McFadden; two brothers, Alton and George Hughes, both of Jeannette; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the COSHEY-NICHOLSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. Jennie S. DelVecchio, 78, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Oakmont and Greensburg, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her residence in Naples. She was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Derry, a daughter of the late Jack and Concietta Seeno. She was retired as a self-employed flower arranger and was an avid bingo player. Mrs. DelVecchio and her late husband, David A. DelVecchio, were both veterans of World War II. Mrs. DelVecchio is survived by three children, David F. DelVecchio of Bethlehem, Pa., Susan K. DelVecchio of Greenville, N.C., and Thomas J. DelVecchio of Greensboro, N.C.; and three grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Robert Seeno, Art Seeno and Carl Seeno, all of Greensburg; three sisters, Sara Seeno, Peg S. McCurdy, and Evelyn Galley, all of Greensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family of Mrs. DelVecchio will receive friends at the COSHEY-NICHOLSON FUNERAL HOME, 319 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Saturday, Feb. 12, from 1:30 until 2 p.m. at which time a memorial service will be held with the Rev. Jeffrey Paschal officiating. Donald L. Nehls, 87, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1912, in Uniontown, a son of the late Otto J. and Blanche (Leighty) Nehls. Prior to retirement in 1977, he and his wife owned and operated Nehls' Beauty Salon in Washington, Pa. A veteran of World War II, Donald served with the U.S. Army in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, the Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515, and the VFW Post 3414, all in Latrobe; and the Lions Club of Washington, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John W. Nehls. He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Frieda G. (Washnock) Nehls; his niece, Jean Hughes and her husband, Keith, of Punxsutawney; and his nephew, James Nehls and his wife, Lorraine, of Jensen Beach, Fla. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with his pastor, the Rev. William E. Ordelt Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown. Military services will be held Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home. Thomas K. Rafferty, D.D.S., 46, of Ligonier, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in his home. He was born June 6, 1953, in Latrobe, a son of William M. Rafferty of Latrobe and the late Mabel Lorraine Rafferty. He was a self-employed dentist with practices in Latrobe and Bolivar. He was a 1971 graduate of the Greater Latrobe Senior High School; a 1975 graduate of St. Vincent College, Latrobe; and a 1979 graduate of the Temple University School of Dentistry. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a nephew, Michael Rafferty; and a brother-in-law, John Bruno. In addition to his father, he is survived by six brothers, William Rafferty of Warren, Mich., Daniel Rafferty of Latrobe, Patrick Rafferty of Irwin, Dennis Rafferty of Latrobe, Bernard Rafferty of Latrobe, and Edward Rafferty of McMurray; a sister, Regina Louise Bruno of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.
