Dorothy E. (Shawley) Matecko, 80, of South Greensburg, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at St. Anne's Home, Greensburg. She was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Tarrs, a daughter of the late Chester S. and Anna Sanders Shawley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Matecko Sr.; also by a son, Michael Matecko Jr.; and two brothers, H. David Shawley and Robert Shawley. Surviving is her adopted daughter, Patricia A. Good of South Greensburg, with whom Dorothy resided. Also surviving are two brothers, Chester F. Shawley and his wife, Rachel, of Herminie and Donald R. Shawley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Delcina Omlor and her husband, Kenneth, of Yukon, Mrs. Mary Catherine Caldwell of Latrobe, Mrs. Diana Hurd and her husband, Kelly, of Camp Verde, Ariz., and Mrs. Theresa Harbaugh and her husband, Gary, of Jeannette; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Donald Mondello officiating. Interment will follow in the Seven Dolors Church Cemetery, South Huntingdon Township.
Flora M. Monchak, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born June 8, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Paul and Rose Ragusa Stumpo. She was a graduate of the former Ramsay High School in 1949. She was retired from the housekeeping department at the Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. She was also a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Monchak, in 1998; a brother, Samuel Stumpo; and two sisters, Mary Herndon Belcastro and Helen Stumpo. She is survived by a son, Gregory Monchak and his wife, Karen, of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Georjan May and her husband, Jeffrey, of Connellsville; five grandchildren, Theresa Prindible, Jake and Sarah Clark, and Deanna and Taylor Monchak; and a sister, Angeline Stumpo of Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Pius X R.C. Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. James Clark as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Pius X Cemetery.
Lucille Adeline Shupe, 93, of Southwest Greensburg, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 11, 1906, in Scottdale, a daughter of Elza Austin and Bertha Louella Momeyer Shupe. She was a retired employee of the former A.E. Troutman store in Greensburg for 44 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greensburg and the Dorcas Class and the Cradle Roll of the church. For many years she was a volunteer with the Tel-Med of Westmoreland Hospital and a member of the Hammond Organ Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Flora Shupe Jones; and brother-in-law, Samuel Jones. She is survived by two nieces, Carol Gettemy and husband, Robert, of Greensburg and Sandra Dickinson and husband, David, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a nephew, Samuel W. Jones III and wife, Charlene, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; seven grandnieces and nephews; and three great-grandnieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert C. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillview Cemetery. The family wishes memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 15 E. Second St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
Walter A. Watkins, 86, of Bradenton, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000. Born Jan. 25, 1914, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late David R. and Jane Ann (Kahl) Watkins. He was a lifetime member of the First Assembly of God Church and the owner and operator of Avon Air Mobile Home Court in Bradenton, Fla., for 30 years. He was a loving husband and father, devoted brother, caring uncle and friend to all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David J., Thomas and Paul Watkins, and a sister, Ethel (Clark) Campbell, all of Latrobe. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Gess) Watkins of Bradenton, Fla.; a son, Walter Watkins, and his children, Amanda, Shawn and Shannon Watkins, of Bradenton, Fla.; a daughter, Garnet Holiday, her husband, Paul, and their son, Michael Holiday, of Young Harris, Ga.; a brother, Pershing V. Watkins and wife, Ellen, of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Violet (William) Sanderson and Olive M. Watkins, both of Latrobe; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, any contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, Bradenton, Fla. Funeral services are being arranged by BROWN AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 26th Street, Bradenton, Fla.
Nancy K. Walton Barton, 86, of Delmont, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Hempfield Township, a daughter of the late Florence R. and Cora Armour Walton. Prior to retirement, she was employed as a legal secretary for attorney Christ Walthour in Greensburg. She had also worked as a secretary for the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, D.C., and for the Old Republic Insurance Company in Greensburg. She was a lifetime member of the Delmont Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Barton; two brothers, Riley Walton and Eugene Walton; and three sisters, Mary Swinter, Bertha Brunot and Helen Shaffer. She is survived by a sister, Sara W. Probst of Greensburg; three stepsons and two stepdaughters, Gary Barton of South Thetford, Vt., Vicki Tasney and David Barton, both of North Quincy, Mass., Fred Barton of Mechanicsville, Va., and Pat Brewer of Folsom, Calif.; and by a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. Should friends desire, memorial remembrances may be made in Nancy K. Walton Barton's name to a charity of choice. Friends and family are also invited to attend a public memorial service to be held at a time and place to be announced at a future date. JOHN L. Felicitas Thea (Langer) Brklycica, 58, of Greensburg, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Germany, a daughter of the late Karl and Gertrud Langer. She was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, South Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Langer. She is survived by her husband, John E. Brklycica; her stepmother, Magda Langer of Mainz, Germany; an adopted brother, Thomas Langer of Mainz, Germany; two brothers-in-law, Joe Berk and Stephen Brklycica; four sisters-in-law, Tillie Brklycica, Ann Burk, Barbs Overly and Midge Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church, South Greensburg, with the Rev. Blane L. Resko, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
Patrick J. Fedele, 33, of Greensburg, after valiantly holding off leukemia for two and a half years, died Friday night, Feb. 11, 2000, at home, with the love and support of his family and friends. He was born Sept. 15, 1966, in Greensburg, a son of Anthony A. "Fiddles" and Margaret Jean Abraham Fedele of Greensburg. Prior to his illness, Pat was a copy editor in the Sports Department of the Florida Times Union in Jacksonville. Over the last two years he was a freelance reporter for the Uniontown Herald Standard and several newspapers in Florida and other states. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, and a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College. Pat closely followed sports at all levels, from high school to the pros. He was an avid basketball player and especially enjoyed pick-up games with many of his childhood friends from the Hilltop section of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. In addition to his parents, Pat is survived by a brother, Timothy A. Fedele; a niece, Katherine M. Fedele; and a nephew, Michael A. Fedele, all of Greensburg; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, both locally and across the country. Relatives and friends will be received at the CLEMENT L. Catherine P. Ferraro, 3, of Trafford, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She was born July 18, 1996, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of William S. and Kelly Schraf Ferraro. She was a member of St. Regis Church of Trafford and attended Trinity Preschool. In addition to her parents, she is survived by paternal grandfather, William L. Ferraro of Vero Beach, Fla.; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Schraf of Latrobe. Friends will be received at the DAVID A. RITTER FUNERAL HOME, 220 Edgewood Ave., Trafford, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Regis Church with Father James D. Tringhese as celebrant. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Irwin.
Martin J. Kukol, 79, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born March 19, 1920, in Loyalhanna, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Harviscak Kukol. He was a member of the Holy Family Church, Latrobe, and was retired from Teledyne-Vasco Co. with 42 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lauretta Johnston Kukol; a daughter, Cheryl Kukol Anderson; a great-grandson, Thad Michael Lloyd; four sisters, Margaret Ament, Barbara Kukol, Ann Hlavsa and Mary Torba; and two brothers, Joseph Kukol and John Kukol. Survivors include a son, James M. Kukol and his wife, Rose, of Latrobe; a brother, Edward Kukol of Latrobe; three grandchildren, Stacey Kukol Moff, Brenda Lloyd and her husband, David, and Martin A. Kukol; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, James Calabrese and Jennifer Calabrese; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Unity Township.
Hays L. Stahl, 71, of Jones Mills, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at his residence. He was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Jones Mills, a son of the late Ora and Pearl Logan Stahl. He was retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He was a member of the Millertown Community Church and over the years had served as deacon, superintendent and Sunday school teacher at the Valley Brethren Church, Jones Mills. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Stahl. Hays is survived by his wife, Mabel Baldwin Stahl; a daughter, Daviette and her husband, Rick Daniels, of Ligonier; two sons, Richard and his wife, Ellen, and Greg and his wife, Renee, all of Somerset; nine grandchildren, Susan and her husband, Mark Friedline, Debbie and her husband, Travis Barron, Jennifer, Matthew, Melissa, Greg and Mark Stahl, all of Somerset, and Chad and Brad Daniels of Ligonier; four great-grandchildren, Levi and Keri Friedline and Michael and Stephanie Barron, all of Somerset; and a sister, Virgie and her husband, J.D. Kinneer, of Champion. Private viewing and funeral services were held Saturday at the L. BOYD SNYDER FUNERAL HOME INC., Church Street, Donegal, with the Rev. Kerry Johnson and the Rev. David P. Huey co-officiating. Interment was in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
