John A. Lehosky, 81, of Claridge, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1918, in Claridge, a son of the late Paul and Julia Valencie Lehosky. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Jeannette Glass Co. He was a member of St. Barbara Church, Harrison City and Jeannette American Legion Post 344. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sholties Lehosky, in 1997; and a brother, Paul Lehosky. He will be deeply missed by his devoted daughters, son, and grandchildren, who will always remember his loving and kind ways. He is survived by his son, John A. Lehosky of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Karen M. and husband, Bob Fairgrieve, of Irwin and Darlene A. and husband, Sam Lonero, of Jeannette; two brothers, Daniel Lehosky of Monroeville and Franklin Lehosky of Greensburg; two sisters, Julia Harris of Long Island, N.Y., and Mary Cappeli of Monroeville; and five grandchildren, Amber, Jeremy, Brandee, J.J. and Kaylee. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Barbara Church with the Rev. V. Paul Fitzmaurice as celebrant. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Penn Township. The Jeannette Combined Legion will hold services Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and a vigil service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Stanley D. Pevc, 81, of Collinsburg, West Newton, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home. He was born in Rostraver Township, Nov. 15, 1918, the son of the late John and Mary Pevc. Mr. Pevc was retired from the East Pittsburgh Works of Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He was a former constable in Rostraver Township and also served with the West Newton Auxiliary Police. During World War II, he achieved the rank of master sergeant in the 39th Bomb Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was also a member of the 6th Bomb Group. He was a member of the Liederkranz Club, the S.N.P.J. Lodge and the Slovenian Club, all of Collinsburg, the Smithton American Legion and the Marconi Club of Smithton. He is survived by a son, John C. Pevc and his wife, Anita, of West Newton; four daughters, Linda Spickel of West Newton, Dolores Vivio and her husband, David, of West Newton, Ilene Bach and her husband, Sam, of Smithton, and Mary Hughes of West Newton; two sisters, Lillian Figiel of Collinsburg and Justine Zorko of Collinsburg; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores M. Pevc, on Dec. 21, 1998; and by a sister, Mary Hesson. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Pittavino officiating. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery.
Nancy J. Bossart, 64, formerly of Connellsville, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Oct. 3, 1935, a daughter of the late Robert T. and Mary Griffith Black. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bossart Sr.; six brothers, Homer W. Black, Robert C. Black, Harrold H. Black, Ross W. Black, Albert N. Black, and Paul Black; and a sister, Ida S. Bish. Survived by six children, Mrs. Ken (Carole) Bair of Jeannette, Robert Bossart and wife, Sue, of Alverton, William E. Bossart Jr. of Duquesne, David K. Bossart and wife, Lisa, of Madison, Ohio, Noah L. Bossart and wife, Lois, of Connellsville, and Jayne M. Bossart of Scottdale; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Donald W. Black of Ohio, Dean E. Black of Rochester, N.Y., and Alan D. Black of Mt. Pleasant; four sisters, Mary L. Lessman of Mt. Pleasant, Lorraine Lukas of Greensburg, Edith "Judy" Baker and Shirley M. Febinger, both of Texas. She worked at the Hill's Department Store in Uniontown. Friends will be received at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Friday with interment
to follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
Samuel E. Harper, 75, of Crabtree, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Crabtree, a son of the late Wyatt and Minnie Paggan Harper. He was a former employee of Jeannette Tire and retired from U.S. Steel, Braddock. He was a member of the First Antioch Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William A. and John Harper; and a sister, Sally L. Harper. Survived by a brother, Joseph Harper and wife, Inez C., of Philadelphia; a sister, Elizabeth Bailey of Bronx, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Ora Harper of Bethlehem; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will be received at the First Antioch Baptist Church, 726 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., where funeral service will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor David Williamson officiating. George Karazsia, 87, of Crabtree, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 28, 1912, in Zarica, Czechoslovakia, a son of the late John and Anna Felcian Karazsia. He was a retired miner from Republic Steel's Banning Coal Mine, and had been employed by the Jamison Coal Co. He also was owner/operator of the Karazsia Coal and Coke Co. He was a member of District 5 United Mine Workers. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Greensburg, and was a strong figure in its establishment. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Karazsia; a brother, Charles B. Karazsia; and a son-in-law, Joseph Givogri. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret Ribar Karazsia; a daughter, Janie Givogri of Crabtree; four sons, George Karazsia and wife, Sue, of Crabtree, Jack Karazsia and wife, Connie, of Latrobe, Bill Karazsia and wife, Kathie, of Washington Township and Thomas Karazsia and wife, Mary, of Greensburg; a daughter-in-law, Nancy, of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren, Kim Parisi and husband, Joe, Mark Givogri, George "Jute" and wife, Molly, Kevin and wife, Erin, Bill, Scott, Megan, Tomi-Marie, Bryan and Kristen Karazsia; four great-grandsons, Matthew and Michael Karazsia and Christopher and Patrick Parisi; a brother, John "Sharky" Karazsia of Crabtree; two sisters, Mary of Crabtree and Anna of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Paula Jean (Ballein) Kusmierek, 51, of Sutersville, formerly of Monongahela, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Borough. She was born June 6, 1948, in New Eagle, the daughter of Paul and Lena Vignoli Ballein of Elizabeth Township. She was a member of First Christian Church, Monongahela. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 22 years, John L. Kusmierek; a son, Raymond Calfo of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Donald Ballein and his wife, Kathy, of Monongahela; and a niece, Alyssa Ballein. Friends will be received Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Monongahela, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Taylor officiating. Robert William Campbell I, 75, of Manor, formerly of Murrysville, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000. He was born Sept. 23, 1924, in East Pittsburgh, a son of the late Peter and Elizabeth Catherine McFarland Campbell. He was a 1942 graduate of Franklin Township High School, and owned and operated Campbell's Barber Shop in Murrysville for many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was the first commander of the American Legion of Murrysville and was currently a member of the Jeannette American Legion. He also was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God, North Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Beeson and Ann Moore. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Hull Campbell; two daughters, Berklene Rasel and her husband, Michael, of Harrison City and Robin Immel and her husband, the Rev. Donald, of Uniontown; a son, Robert William Campbell II and his wife, Nancy, of Library; three stepsons, David Kelly and his wife, Sue, of Pittsburgh, Jeffrey Compton and his wife, Karen, of Rockford, Ill., and Kevin Compton of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Gladys Schafer and her husband, Ray, of Murrysville; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Evelyn F. Montgomery, 90, of Rockville, Md., passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 16, 2000, in the Potomac Valley Nursing Home, Rockville, Md. Evelyn was born in Mt. Pleasant, March 11, 1909, a daughter of the late John and Maude Rist Elder. Evelyn was a former actress and a loving homemaker, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington, N.J., where she resided most of her life. Years ago she was affiliated with the Pennsville Baptist Church. She was also a graduate of Pitcairn High School. Evelyn is survived by her loving family, a son, James Montgomery and his wife, Darlene, of Bethesda, Md.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Araminta Stewart of Trafford; and a brother, Charles Elder and his wife, Margaret, of Murrysville. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, C. Marvin Montgomery, on Oct. 18, 1973; and several brothers and sisters. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Sherry B. (Hernley) Murray, 51, of Scottdale, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 15, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Sherry was born in Connellsville, June 3, 1948, a daughter of the late Milton H. and Vivian Lambing Hernley, who passed away Dec. 25, 1999 and Feb. 9, 1981, respectively. Sherry was a former resident of Tampa, Fla., and a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, and sister to her family. She graduated with the Southmoreland High School Class of 1966 and was affiliated with the Everson Evangelical Church. Sherry is survived by her loving family; her two daughters, Heather Coleman and husband, Kirby, of Pensacola, Fla., and Jessica Murray of Scottdale; her two grandsons, Jerel and Jalen; her two brothers, Larry Hernley and wife, Sharon, and Jock Hernley and wife, Joni, all of Scottdale; her niece and nephews, Randy Hernley, Krissy Hernley, Jeff Hernley and wife, Anita, Nick, Jesse, and Marc Hernley; her aunts, Phyllis Sherbondy and husband, William, of Mt. Pleasant, Twyla Hatcher and husband, Vince, of Mecklinburg, Pa., Larue Johnson of Scottdale, and Anna Mary Ross and husband, Pat, of Scottdale; her uncle, Edward Lambing and wife, Betty, of Alverton; her stepmother, Shelby Jean Hernley of Palm Bay, Fla.; and her close friend, Kathy Zaffina of Scottdale. Betty Jane Poole, 74, of Ruffsdale RD2, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born May 4, 1925, in Ruffsdale, a daughter of the late Earl Hall and Laura S. Weitzel Poole. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James R. Poole, John N. Poole, and Earl E. Poole. Survived by two brothers, Donald A. Poole and wife, Nancy, of Greensburg RD11 and David H. Poole of Ruffsdale; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Dorothy) Kentigh of Ruffsdale; a foster brother, Kelvin Nelson and wife, Kisa, of Scottdale; a sister-in-law, Sally W. Poole of Mt. Pleasant; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of Christ Reformed Church of Ruffsdale and a graduate of East Huntingdon High School Class of 1943. Friends will be received at the C.
