Glenn R. McConnell, 75, of Murrysville, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Forbes Hospice Center. He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Grenville, Pa., a son of the late Meade and Mary Arner McConnell. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as the vice president branch manager for the Erie Insurance Group. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl McConnell; and two sisters, Gladys Zuschag and Dorothy Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Murray McConnell; three sons, Douglas R. McConnell of Lancaster, Terry L. McConnell of Erie, and Glenn Galbraith of Irwin; a daughter, Ginger Dubosky of North Huntingdon; a sister, Thelma Witte of California; and six grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 176 Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bruce Zarnick officiating, followed by entombment in Twin Valley Memorial Park.
Frances J. Stefanov, 84, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born May 19, 1915, in Whitney, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Hurite Barlock. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Pa., and its Rosary Society and the Latrobe Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen and Joseph Barlock; and two sisters, Helen Johnstone and Mary Byerly. She is survived by her husband, Stephen J. Stefanov Sr.; a son, Stephen J. Stefanov and his wife, Pauline, of New Alexandria RD1; a sister, Cecelia Patak of Chester, Va.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Stefanov, Mary Hall and her husband, John, and Steven Stefanov and his wife, Angela; three great-grandchildren, Danielle, Christiana and Stephen; two step-great-grandchildren, J.R. Hall and Shane Starcher; and her two favorite pets, Scruffy and Lady. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe . A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Ralph Tajak, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
Charles W. Stough, 87, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born April 6, 1912, in Hempfield Township, he was a son of the late Harry and Alice Errett Stough. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an inspector by the Elliott Co. of Jeannette. He was a member of the Brush Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church. Charles was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He also was a member of American Legion Post 472 of Manor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin daughters, Patricia and Marcia Stough; three brothers, Lee, Earl and Clyde Stough. Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise Evans Stough; and two daughters, Barbara Wilson and husband, Robert, of Glenshaw and Linda Wray and husband, Donald, of North Hills, Pittsburgh. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Laura and Brittany Wray; a sister, Esta Stubbs of Herminie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Brush Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Houser officiating. Frank Botts, 93, formerly of 15 Washington St., Latrobe, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born Oct. 23, 1906, in Latrobe, a son of the late George and Jennie (Coughenour) Botts. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former Pierce Woolen Mill in Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma (Morocco) Botts; two sisters, Elizabeth Hudock and Florence Baker; and three brothers, Charles, William and Harry Botts. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Giles and her husband, Carl, with whom he made his home in Monroeville; two grandchildren, Dawn and Lori Adams; and three great-grandchildren, Julia, Quinton and Gabrielle Adams. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.
David L. Cole, 60, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at his home. He was born March 8, 1939, in Greensburg, a son of the late Elmer and Imelda Nedley Cole. He was a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office and a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Don Cole; and a daughter, Lisa Ann Cole. Survived by his wife, Frances A. Verdone Cole; a son, David J. Cole and his wife, Tina, of Greensburg; two daughters, Colleen Cole of Latrobe and Kimberly Sue Cole at home; a brother, Delmer Cole of Jeannette; two sisters, Doreen Thompkins and Diane Little, both of Greensburg; also two step-grandchildren, Eric and John. There are no public visitations. Services and interment
will be private. The JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, is in charge of arrangements.
Pearl L. Eiford, 82, of Scottdale RD1, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in the Eicher's Family Home, Normalville. She was born Dec. 15, 1917, in New Brighton, a daughter of the late Roy W. and Minnie Ohler Anderson. Pearl was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was a member of the Owensdale United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Ronald W. Eiford and his wife, Nancy, with whom she had resided, of Scottdale RD1; two daughters, Ella Mae Carty and her husband, Bernice, of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Kay A. Hesson and her husband, John, of Greenville; six grandchildren, Laurie Pritchard and husband, Don, of Hanover, Ron Eiford Jr. and wife, Kim, of Alverton, Melonie Androstic and husband, Jim, of Scottdale RD1, John Hesson Jr. and wife, Karen, of Cresson, Kelly Linzenbold and husband, Brian, of Transfer and Clark Carty and wife, Darlene, of Brunswick, Ohio; and three sisters, Rella Weyand of Normalville, Dollie Grimm and husband, Howard, of Normalville and Ruby Wood and husband, James, of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Melvin D. Eiford, on Dec. 9, 1990; three brothers, Roy W. Jr., Charles and James Anderson; and four sisters, Elsie Marie Anderson, Minnie Harbaugh, Beulah Breakiron and Ethel Young. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m., the hour of a funeral service in the funeral home with the Rev. David Lee officiating. Interment will be in the Normalville Cemetery.
Geraldine W. Foley, 83, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Rochester, Pa., a daughter of the late Henry B. and Ethelyn Mae Smith Weigel. She was a former employee of the Monaca Savings and Loan and was a graduate of Monaca High School and of Robert Morris Secretarial School. She was a member of the Maplewood Presbyterian Church of Greensburg and a deacon of the church and was a longtime volunteer with the Westmoreland Manor and the Redstone Highlands. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Foley II; son, Walter J. Foley III; brother, Dr. Joseph Weigel; sister, Erma Blacketor; and brother-in-law, Everly Blacketor. Surviving are her children, Ethelyn F. Bishop and husband, Frederick, and Joseph T. Foley and wife, Mei Yuk; grandchildren, Joseph T. Jr., Johnathan, Walter J. IV, Patrick M. and Kathleen A. Foley; daughter-in-law, Nancy C. Foley; sister-in-law, Frances Weigel; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good and dear friends. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen LaSor officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Monaca. The family respectfully requests memorial contributions to either the Redstone Highlands or the Maplewood Presbyterian Church.
Angelo Raymond Garner, 72, of South Greensburg, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 18, 1928, in South Greensburg, a son of the late Raymond and Lena Lentini Garner. Prior to his retirement, he had been the owner and operator of the Modern Barber Shop on South Main Street in Greensburg for approximately 50 years. He was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church and the A.M.S. Club, both of South Greensburg, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Garner. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marie Pirolo Garner; his adoring children, sons, Raymond and his wife, Karen B. Garner, of Jeannette and Ronald and his wife, Marsha Garner, of Greensburg, and a daughter, Tammy and her husband, James Tocco, of Greensburg; his loving grandchildren, Justin Garner, Jason Garner, Angela Tocco, and Patrick Garner; his devoted brothers and sisters, Phillip and his wife, Carmella Garner, of South Greensburg, Joseph and his wife, Edna Garner, of Greensburg, Margaret Long of Greensburg, Lucy Thomas of Baltimore, Md., Gloria and her husband, Vincent Piccolo, of Greensburg, and Linda and her husband, Stanley Dobies, of South Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno Catholic Church, South Greensburg, with the Rev. Blane L. Resko, O.S.B., as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Mausoleum, Delmont, with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33 Honor Guard.
Frank P. "Hooks" Wargo, 86, of Penn Township, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Golden Heights Personal Care Home, Penn Township. He was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Clairton, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Petro Wargo. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for National Tube in McKeesport. He was a member of St. Barbara Church in Harrison City, the Young at Hearts of the church and the Penn Township Super Seniors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Zeransky Wargo, in 1997; and four brothers, John, Michael, Steven and Paul Wargo. He is survived by a son, James F. Wargo of Penn Township; a sister, Anna Pucalik of Mayport; and two grandsons, James M. and Daniel J. Wargo. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Barbara's Church with the Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Barbara Cemetery, Penn Township. A vigil service will be held Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Lorenza J. Baker, 79, of Penn Township, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born July 26, 1920, in Penn Township, a son of the late Nelson Presley and Agnes Wampler Baker. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist by Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh for 43 years from 1941 to 1983. He worked on parts of the first nuclear submarine, the Nautilus, that went under the North Pole. He was also the assistant chief of the Westinghouse Fire Department and was an ordained deacon of the First United Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Edward Baker. He is survived by his wife, Mary Mathias Baker, whom he met Feb. 27, 1939, and married May 10, 1941; two daughters, Bonnie L. and husband, James Warder, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Loriann and husband, Pat Witte, of Dana Point, Calif.; a brother, Jerome Baker of Penn Township; two sisters, Irene Mathias of North Huntingdon and Margie Vargo of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Lynn Wilson, Beth Ann Stetar, Heather Eaton and Jarrod Menz; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Stetar and Colin Wilson. He was a father figure to many of his family. Visitation with the family will be held at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Ardara United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Carlisle Lloyd officiating.
