Ann D. Ward, 78, of Slickville, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Motherwell, Scotland, a daughter of the late Patrick and Sarah J. Morgan Gallogly. Her hobby was quilting, and she was a member of the quilters' club, St. Sylvester Church, and the American Legion Post 18, all in Slickville. During World War II, she served with the U.S. Army Air Force in the European theater of operations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Ward in 1993; a son, John P. Ward in 1986; and three brothers, James, Joseph and John Gallogly. She is survived by five children, Kathleen A. Ward of Greensburg, Doreen A. Ward of Slickville, James J. Ward and his wife, Margaret, of Ayer, Mass., Mary Ann Bragg of Norfolk, Va., and Martin D. Ward and his wife, Cathie, of Hellertown; a brother, Patrick Gallogly and his wife, Betty Ann, of Mars; a sister, Mary Ward and her husband, John, of Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren, Meghan Ward, Patrick Bragg, Alanna Bragg, Kelsi Ward (for whom she was also godmother), Abby Ward, and James Ward. Mrs. Ward's family will receive friends at the JOHN L. Marie Houp Davey White, 87, of Greensburg, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in St. Anne Home, Greensburg. She was born May 12, 1912, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Arnold and Elizabeth Shonter Houp. She was a member of St. Bruno's Catholic Church of South Greensburg. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a food service manager with the Hempfield Area School District. She was a member of the Greensburg Lioness and the Catholic Daughters of America. Marie enjoyed playing cards and was a member of various card clubs. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands, Thomas R. Davey and J. Guy White; a son, Thomas R. Davey; and a brother, Arnold C. "Dutch" Houp. She is survived by a son, Terry A. Davey and his wife, Joan, of Greensburg; two daughters, Margaret A. Curry of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Elizabeth Jane Zumbro of Torrance, Calif.; five grandchildren, David, Dennis, and Dale Curry, Richard Zumbro, and Tiffany Davey; and a sister, Elizabeth Hanson and her husband, Ralph, of Greensburg. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bruno's Church, South Greensburg. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Should friends desire, memorials may be placed with St. Anne Home, 685 Angela Drive, Greensburg.
Helen (Galinac) Gyenes, 74, of Murrysville, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in her loving home. She was born April 6, 1925, in Saltsburg, Pa., a daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna (Bedick) Galinac. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Export. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and John Galinac. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, John Gyenes; a son, John Gyenes of Pittsburgh; three daughters, Jean Frand of Penn Township, Bonnie Christophersen and husband, Chris, of Westport, Conn., and Doreen Brammell and husband, Rob, of Hilliard, Ohio; three brothers, Lawrence Galinac of Latrobe, William Galinac of Cleveland, Ohio, and Thomas Galinac of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Weravetz and Dorothy Roeder, both of Arizona. In addition, Helen is survived by 14 ®MDBO¯®MDNM¯loving and well-loved grandchildren, Joe, Lauren, Joshua, and Jared Frand, Brittany, Kelsey, Erik Christophersen, Robert, James, Zsuzsa and John Gyenes and Ashley, Carla and Leslie Brammell. Family and friends will be received at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC. AT TWIN VALLEY, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Export, with the Rev. Anna K. Bureau, 68, of Derry, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Loyalhanna Care Center, Derry Township. She was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Uniontown, a daughter of the late Frank and Katherine Malinak Rolniak. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Frank. She is survived by her husband, Harry B. "Skippy" Bureau; three sisters, Katherine, Margaret and Mary Ann; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Donn S. Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.
David C. Anderson, 62, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute of Pittsburgh. He was born Dec. 20, 1937, in Tracy, Minn., a son of Mina (Bender) Anderson Rodgers of Marshall, Minn., and the late Frank Anderson. He was retired as a registered respiratory therapist for the UPMC McKeesport Hospital. He was employed by Complete Home Care and Med-Max, both of Pittsburgh, and was also employed by Trombino Music Center in Westmoreland Mall. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Republican Club of North Huntingdon, McKeesport Sportsmen's Association, and a member of the Pennsylvania Society for Respiratory Care. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Marcia Burchell Anderson; two daughters, Ashley Anderson at home and Mary Lysinger of New Jersey; a son, David W. Anderson of Arizona; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Kelling of Connecticut. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Walney, pastor of Prayer Time Cathedral of White Oak, officiating. Interment will take place in the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.
Catherine Rodenz Stuchal, of Adamsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Peter and Mildred McKinley Rodenz. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Paul and George Rodenz; and a sister, Anne Louise King. She is survived by her husband, Clayton G. Stuchal Sr.; a daughter, Anna Marie Miller of Jeannette; and a son, Clayton G. Stuchal Jr. of Adamsburg. Also surviving are three brothers, John and Joseph Rodenz of Adamsburg and Nicholas Rodenz of Wendel; and a sister, Margaret Perillo of Lakewood, Calif. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. R. Bruce Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
James J. Gilligan, 79, of Derry, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at the William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Latrobe, a son of the late William L. and Mary Josephine Schwartz Gilligan. He was retired from Latrobe Forge and Spring, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and VFW Post 444 of Derry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mary Nolfi Gilligan, in 1979; four brothers, John, Louis, Robert and Thomas; and three sisters, Anna Mary, Margaret and Caroline. Jim is survived by two sons, Charles J. "James" and his wife, Lynn, of Trafford and Patrick G. and his wife, Judy, of Latrobe; three grandchildren, James H., Jeffrey L. and Shane P. Gilligan; a great-grandson, Justin James Gilligan; a sister-in-law, Ann Gilligan of Latrobe; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., 548 N. Chestnut St., Derry. Mary Gertrude McCarthy, 81, of Jeannette, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born May 26, 1918, in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Gertrude Miller Leslie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William McCarthy; and a son, Terrence McCarthy. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church of Jeannette. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia McCarthy of Jeannette; a son, Charles McCarthy of Jeannette; two grandsons, Chad and Derek McCarthy; a great-grandson, Nathan Rathgeb; three sisters, Winifred Visco and Hazel McAllen, both of Turtle Creek, and Betty Numar of Boca Raton, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
Walter H. Morrow, of Delmont, formerly of Wilkins Township, on Friday, Feb. 18, 2000. Beloved husband of Carol E. Morrow. Dear father of Nancy Morrow Norris and her husband, Robert N., of California, Linda Morrow Choma and her husband, John, of Cranberry Township and David H. Morrow and his fiancee, Andrea, of Wilkins Township. Loving son of LaVogne V. Morrow and the late Walter H. Morrow Sr. Twin brother of Jack V. Morrow and brother of Arlene M. Rink. Grandfather of Jesse David and Ryan Hunter Norris and Johnny Choma. Mr. Morrow retired after 43 years of service with PNC Bank. He was past master and treasurer of Infinity Lodge F&AM #546. Benjamin C. Simpson, 94, of Mt. Pleasant RD6, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Aug. 20, 1905, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a son of the late Clarion James and Mary Jane Crosby Simpson. Mr. Simpson was a coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A., and he was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways for many years. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God and its Men's Bible Class. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Mildred Murtland; an infant son, John; two brothers, John and Frank Simpson; and five sisters, Bessie Sullen, Alice Lesseg, Edna Simpson, Margaret Simpson and Olive Busch. He is survived by his wife, Maude Ansell Simpson; three children, Mary Alice Millward and her husband, Clarence, of Mt. Pleasant RD6, Evelyn Kunkle and her husband, Ray, of Tarrs RD3, and Edward Simpson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Simpson was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Yost officiating.
