Dr. Herbert J. Morrow, of New Alexandria, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Brenizer, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Catherine Morrow. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie; brother, Howard; infant grandchild, Rachel Anne Denara; a son-in-law, Frank Denara; a great-step-granddaughter, Heather. He received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating magna cum laude in 1947. He received the James Heard Award for scholarship and internal medicine, and the Bernard Goldman Award for the highest scholastic standing in dermatology. While at Pitt, he was the president of the AOA National Medical Honor Society. He interned at Homestead and South Side Hospitals in Pittsburgh. He did postgraduate work in arthritis and diabetes at Brooke General Hospital, San Antonio, Texas, and cardiology at the University of Buffalo Medical School. He served in the combat medical department in Bataan in the Philippines in World War II. He set up practice in New Alexandria in 1952, and had an expanded practice in Crabtree. He was past president of the Latrobe Area Hospital Medical Staff and a member of the board of directors. He was a school physician for the Derry Area School District and health officer for New Alexandria. He took a physical retirement in 1984. His professional affiliations include: Latrobe Academy of Medicine, Westmoreland County of Pennsylvania State Medical Societies and the American Medical Association. His social affiliations included: New Alexandria Firemen's Club, American Legion, Lions Club, St. James Church and the Blairsville and the Latrobe Elks. Surviving are his wife, June Weaver Morrow of New Alexandria; three children, Mrs. Frank (Kathryn) Denara of Brenizer, Mrs. Joseph (Michele) Bell of Blairsville and Herbert and wife, Susan, of New Alexandria; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-step-grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets in New Alexandria. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church in New Alexandria with the Rev. Father Lawrence T. Persico as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department.
Thelma R. Snyder, 82, of Stahlstown RD1, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born March 22, 1917, in Champion, the daughter of the late Samuel and Nora M. Reese Stout. She was a resident of Stahlstown since 1997 and before that had been residing in Mt. Pleasant. She had formerly worked as a waitress for different restaurants in the area and had also worked as a hairdresser for Trimpy's in Somerset. She was a former member of the Somerset VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she was a past vice president, and was currently a member of the Donegal American Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she was past treasurer. She was a past member of the Mt. Nebo Church of God. She is survived by a daughter, Carrie "Bunnie" Shawley of Stahlstown; a son, Roy "Sonny" Snyder and his wife, Sandra, of Donegal; seven grandchildren, Lawrence Shawley of Stahlstown, Homer Shawley Jr. of Orlando, Fla., Jeffrey Shawley Sr. of Scottdale, Thelma Lydick of Delmont, Daniel Snyder of Donegal, Kerrie Pelliccione of Greensburg, and Heather Reese of Mt.Pleasant; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Stout of Champion. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Braden Snyder; and two brothers, Paul and James Stout. Friends will be received in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Watson officiating. A private committal service will follow in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Saltlick Township. The Donegal American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a service Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Anna Virginia (Lazor) Fadrosh, 87, of Mt. Pleasant RD1 (United), died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in the St. Anne Home, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 25, 1912, in United, daughter of the late Adam S. and Anna E. Safko Lazor. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Westmoreland County Courthouse and previously worked as a clerk for Sears and a packer for Porcelier Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on Aug. 3, 1991; infant brother, Adam; infant sister, Anna; and brothers George, Andrew, John and Joseph Lazor. She was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church in United and its altar society and the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. She is survived by her son, Gerard Fadrosh, of Williamsport; a sister, Catherine Lazor, of United; three brothers, Stephen Lazor of Latrobe, Paul and Anthony Lazor, both of Greensburg; nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held at the funeral home Monday at 10:20 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Florian Catholic Church, with the Rev. John M. Foriska as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Florian Cemetery. A wake service will be held in the funeral home Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Wayne DeClaudio, 52, of Sutersville, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, in Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Borough. He was born Aug. 19, 1947, in McKeesport, the son of Margaret Morris DeClaudio Chopp and the late August DeClaudio. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Sutersville. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war; and was a member of the L.O.O.M. #1358, Sutersville, and VFW Post #7812, West Newton. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Paula (Brunory) DeClaudio; a son, Michael DeClaudio; a granddaughter, Desiree; a brother, Brian DeClaudio and wife, Deborah, of Sutersville; a sister, Kathy Lubinsky and husband, John, of Irwin RD1; his stepfather, Andrew Chopp; and the following stepsisters and stepbrothers, Barbara Jarmon and husband, Cecil, Rita Pruni and husband, Michael, Andy Chopp, Colleen Martz and husband, Roger, Terry Chopp and wife, Becky, and Pam Chopp. Also a number of nieces and nephews, and dear friends and their children. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Sutersville, with the Rev. James D. Vasil as celebrant. Interment West Newton Cemetery. Rosary service Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Helen P. Jellison, 81, of Loyalhanna, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at home. She was born July 22, 1918, in Loyalhanna, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Johanna Belsan Palek. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald A. Jellison; a son, Gerald A. Jellison Jr.; and five brothers, Rudolph, Louis, Henry, Charles and Ernest Palek. She is survived by a daughter, Marsha Disciascio and her husband, Don, of Latrobe RD4; a son, Richard Jellison and his wife, Barbara, of Latrobe; two sisters, Lee Wisneski and Rose Donato; three grandchildren, David Disciascio, Jennifer Fetter and Elizabeth Lenhart; and a great-grandson, Michael. Friends will be received in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. David Batchelder officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.

Francis R. "Crooner" Furtak, 69, of New Alexandria, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Whitney, a son of Mary Wilcox Furtak of Hostetter and the late Frank Furtak. He was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Whitney, the Frontier Club of Latrobe, St. Joseph's Club, and the Hostetter Club. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Furtak; his second wife, Alberta E. Furtak; two brothers, Stanley and Walter Furtak; and a sister, Cecilia Drexler. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Walter Cole Jr. of Latrobe; two daughters, Betty Patrick and her husband, Donald, of New Alexandria, and Sherry Furtak of Latrobe; two brothers, Joseph Furtak and his wife, Marie, of Boston, Mass., and Michael Furtak and his wife, Donna, of Hostetter; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:15 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church with the Rev. Chad Ficorilli O.S.B. as celebrant. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
Infant son of Scott J. and Donna Sue Zimmerman Geary of Derry RD1, died Wednesday Dec. 1, 1999. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Samuel M. Geary; and a sister, Rachel Elizabeth Geary at home; paternal grandmother, Faye Hardesty Geary of Latrobe; and maternal grandparents, Donald Zimmerman and Kitty Kelly, both of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Hugh J. "Benny" Geary. Private services will be held, and interment

Edison R. Hurst, 77, of Mt. Pleasant RD6, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at his home. He was born March 19, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Willis and Margaret Jordan Hurst. He was retired from Permali Inc., of Mt. Pleasant, and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Willis, William and Thomas Hurst; and two sisters, Sarah Hurst and Bella Mae Geary. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lukasik Hurst; four children, Patricia Mullen of Mt. Pleasant, Judith Kubasky and her husband, Raymond, of Mt. Pleasant, Ronald Hurst and his wife, Cheryl, of Connellsville, and Donald Hurst and his wife, Loretta, of Greensburg; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Allen Hurst of South Carolina and Sheldon Hurst and his wife, Marjorie, of Mt Pleasant; and four sisters, Eva Lucas of Pittsburgh, Edith Rice, Sarah Piezak and Rita Daniels and her husband, James, all of Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Nicholas Trongo officiating. Interment will follow in the Visitation Cemetery.
