E. Pauline Campbell, 88, of West Newton, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born May 14, 1911, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Charles and Edith Bleich Allenbaugh. She was a member of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Harry Campbell, in 1994; a brother, Carl Allenbaugh; and a son-in-law, Dr. Milton Hirsh. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hirsh of White Oak and Rebecca Varga of West Newton; four grandchildren, Dr. Lauri Gosnell of Washington Crossing, Staci Dooney of Bellingham, Mass., Alan Hirsh of Alexandria, Va., and David Hirsh of Brookline, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Hirsh, and Chelsea and Samantha Gosnell; and a sister, Gladys Frye. No visitation. A private graveside service will be conducted in West Newton Cemetery by the Rev. William A. Sukolsky. Memorials may be made to the West Newton United Presbyterian Church, or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton.
Adam J. Connors, 5 years of age, of High Street, Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 11, 1999, in the Uniontown Hospital, as a result of injuries sustained in a two-car accident in the City of Uniontown. Adam was born in Mt. Pleasant, Aug. 11, 1994, the son of Brian S. and Jennifer B. Connors Ebbert. He was baptized in faith as Catholic and was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Scottdale. Adam was enrolled in the kindergarten class at Rumbaugh Elementary School, Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his mother and father, Brian S. and Jennifer B. Connors Ebbert, Adam is survived by his maternal grandparents, John "Jack" and Barbara Earnesty Connors of Everson; paternal grandparents, Frank P. V and Diane L. Clark Ebbert of Mt. Pleasant; paternal great-grandfather, Frank P. Ebbert IV of Florida; paternal great-grandmother, Gertrude Clark of Mt. Pleasant; paternal great-grandmother, Leona Cassler of Uniontown; two uncles, Mark D. Ebbert of Scottdale and John Connors Jr. of Everson; two aunts, Jocelyn Connors and Katie Earnesty of Everson; and a number of great-uncles and aunts, and cousins. Adam was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, William and Bridget Flanagan Connors, and Arthur and Gladys Swank Earnesty. Adam's family will receive friends Monday in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, from 1 to 9 p.m. A blessing will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. A parish wake service for Adam will be held Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
J.P. Ludwig, 73, of Harrison City, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in the IHS of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg. He was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Penn Township, a son of the late John Phillip and Cora Elizabeth Kline Ludwig. Prior to retirement, he was a crane operator at the Elliott Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Jeannette, USWA Local #1145 and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis McClune Ludwig of Harrison City; a daughter, Fay Ludwig at home; two brothers, John P. Davis of Greensburg and Edwin Davis of Harrison City; two sisters, Estella Seslar of Mechanicsburg and Cora May Bezak of Brookville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Martin R. Koss and the Rev. Gary J. Simpson co-officiating. Interment with full military rites by the Jeannette Combined Veterans will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Export.
Charles W. "Bill" Martin, 72, of Bessemer Street, Scottdale (East Huntingdon Township), passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 12, 1999, at Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Bill was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Charles E. "Abe" and Evelyn "Lena" Love Martin. Bill was a former employee of the Duraloy Blaw-Knox Co., Scottdale. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Scottdale. He was a former member of the Scottdale Borough Auxiliary Police and had served as a volunteer for the Area Agency on Aging. Bill was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Seaman 2nd Class, and was decorated with the Victory medal. In addition, he served with the U.S. Navy's 103rd Co. as an Honor Man. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann (Fuller) Martin; two loving daughters, Karen L. Wisler and husband, Donald, of Leetonia, Ohio, and Billie M. Cramer and husband, Carl, of Westminster, Md.; five grandchildren, Michael Carr, Capt. Shane Carr, Stacey Carr, Chad Cramer and Carrie Fritz; two great-grandsons, Justin and Grant; two sisters, Betty Chacken of Ligonier and Phyllis Church and husband, Lee, of Michigan; two brothers, Harry Martin and wife, Helen, of Mt. Pleasant and James Martin and wife, Irene, of Eighty-Four; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. A private funeral service will be held for the family, followed by chapel committal service and interment
in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in memory of Charles "Bill" Martin.
George B. Martin, 70, of West Newton (Pineview Estates), died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1929, in McKeesport, a son of the late George B. Jr. and Hazel (Stewart) Martin. Prior to his retirement in 1978, Mr. Martin was employed by LTV Steel, Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William "Bill" Martin, in March 1997. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Quinn) Martin; two sons, Ken and his wife, Karen Martin, of Mt. Pleasant and John and his wife, Mary Martin, of Greensburg; a daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Leonard Cudnik, of West Newton; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel and her husband, Ernie Goodman, of Churchill. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 p.m. Interment will be private. Viola Habrat Pawlikowski, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at the Parish House in Perryopolis. She was born June 18, 1908, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Adam and Helen Jurczak Habrat. She was a member of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, and the Rosary Society. She was a student of the former Transfiguration School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Bryce Bros. Glass and later the Lenox Crystal of Mt. Pleasant. She is survived by her son, Thadeus Philip Pawlikowski and his wife, Billie, of Fort Collins, Colo.; two grandsons, Robert and John Pawlikowski; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert Pawlikowski; five sisters, Bridget Habrat, Helen Habrat, Ann Habrat, Angela Barbara Nell Habrat and Mary Balcerek; and five brothers, Joseph, Frank, John, Ted and Stanley Habrat. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in the Transfiguration R.C. Church. Interment will follow in the Transfiguration Cemetery.
James California, 70, of Vandergrift, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, in his residence. Born Feb. 2, 1929, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late James and Cora Costrini California, and had lived in Vandergrift all his life. Mr. California was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps. He was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Vandergrift, and enjoyed cooking for the Meals-on-Wheels Program in Vandergrift. He was also an avid fisherman. Mr. California was a parole agent with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and previously had served for a number of years as a police officer in Vandergrift. Survivors include his wife, Connie Valentini California; two sons, James III of York, Pa., and John of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carole) Lewis of Syracuse, N.Y. and Michelle California-Aguiar of Toronto, Canada; four granddaughters; and three sisters, Anna Marie Ramaley, Mrs. Richard (Pauline) Vietch and Janet Christopher, all of Vandergrift. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Bolcar. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME, A Golden Rule Member, 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Lucy Julie DeRosa Hamrock, 62, of Scottdale, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Sept. 25, 1937, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Anthony and Florence DeRosa. Lucy was a faithful lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale. She was a retired employee of Power Ex of Youngwood, former Westinghouse Corp., with 39 years of service. Lucy was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1963. She also assisted St. John's Pierogie Ladies. Lucy was the beloved mother of Gene Hamrock and wife, Rhonda (Bolen), of Scottdale. Her joy in life was being the grandmother of Vaughn, Brandon and Paige Hamrock, all of Scottdale. She is also survived by three brothers, Peter DeRosa and wife, Betty, of Scottdale, Dr. Anthony DeRosa and wife, Pat, of Canfield, Ohio, and James DeRosa of Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Thelma "Corky" DeRosa of Scottdale; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, who predeceased her at the tender age of two months, she was preceded in death by Anthony and Catherine DeSantis, who lovingly raised Lucy, and whom she considered her parents; and a brother, Liberator "Lib" DeRosa. Lucy's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist R.C. Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. A parish rosary will be recited at 2 p.m., and a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m., both on Wednesday, in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 700, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, in loving memory of Lucy Julie Hamrock.
Mary Sadosky, 87, a resident of Huntingdon Ridge, North Huntingdon, formerly of West Newton, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born March 24, 1912, in Bruceton, a daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Snyder) Turki. Mrs. Sadosky was a homemaker, and a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Sadosky, in 1986; and two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Turki. Mrs. Sadosky is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Connie Cross and her husband, Merle, of West Newton; a son, Donald J. Sadosky and his wife, Ida, of California; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella Sleber, of Philadelphia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
Barbara J. Brakus, 96, formerly of West Newton, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in Mt. Vernon Health Care Center, Elizabeth Township. She was born Sept. 4, 1903, in Poland, a daughter of the late John and Sophie Kotlinski. She was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, West Newton. She was formerly active with the Senior Citizens in West Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bozo Brakus. Survived by six children, Edward Brakus of Berlin, Md., Mary Rock and Alice Rock, both of West Newton, Agnes Pencoske of Elizabeth Township, Josephine Honish of Henderson, Nev., and Barbara Holmberg of Englewood, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Private visitation will be held Sunday at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. John A. Regoli as celebrant. Private interment
in St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora.
