Sister Catherine Seton Sweeney, 80, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity, Seton Hill, Greensburg. She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Pittsburgh, the eldest daughter of the late Raymond D. and Helen (Henninger) Sweeney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Harney and Helen Mangan. She is survived by an aunt, Sister Mary Gabriel Henninger, S.S.M. of St. Louis, Mo.; a niece; and four nephews. Sister Catherine Seton entered the Sisters of Charity March 25, 1940, from Resurrection Parish, Brookline. She earned her B.S. in nursing education and her M.Ed. from Duquesne University in 1952 and 1959. Sister Catherine Seton graduated from the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and began her long tenure there. She served as a registered nurse, clinical instructor, medical-surgical and operating room supervisor, assistant director of nursing service and assistant director of in-service education. Later, she served as a medical records technician. In 1973, the hospital recognized her 25 years of service. Following retirement in 1987, Sister Catherine Seton provided nursing consultant services at Elizabeth Seton Center and the Stephen Foster Center. There, she initiated caregivers support groups which met monthly to help caregivers solve problems encountered in caring for frail elderly persons at home. A prize-winning painter and avid photographer, Sister Catherine Seton also belonged to the Sisters Choir, St. Paul Cathedral Choir and the Oasis Chorus. For many years she was active on the Sisters of Charity Vocation Awareness Committee. Friends will be received Sunday and Monday from 1:30 to 6:45 p.m. at Caritas Christi, 459 Mt. Thor Road, Greensburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Assumption, Caritas Christi. Interment

Rose E. Trilli, 89, a resident of West Newton since 1997, formerly of Monessen, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Drago Barruso, she was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Monessen. She was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monessen, and the Italian Society of Mutual Aid. Survivors include her husband, Ralph V. Trilli; a son, Ralph A. Trilli of West Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie and William Doherty of Gilroy, Calif.; two sisters, Josephine Evonko of Charleroi and Frances Hrebnar of Monessen; two grandchildren, Sharon Stewart of Berkeley Heights, N.J., and Sean Doherty of Milford, N.H.; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Nolan and Zachary Stewart and Celeste Doherty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Charles Barruso; and three sisters, Anna Mikula, Virginia "Bubbles" Barruso and Nancy Barruso. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm, 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where a blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church with Father Paul Lisik as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.

Alfred F. Daugherty, 45, suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001. Loving husband of Donna Daugherty; father of Rachel Daugherty-Voshall (Neal) and Jackie "Pooh" Daugherty-Throop (Robert "B.J."); proud grandfather of Brittany, Dallas, Dylan and Neal Jr.; son of Nira and the late Daniel Daugherty. Al was honored to have served with the U.S. Marine Corps for over three years at Cherry Point, N.C. He also worked at Neville Chemical Company for over 20 years. Robert C. Garlicki, 70, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in UPMC Passavant. He was born in Pittsburgh on April 6, 1931. Mr. Garlicki was a police officer for the City of Pittsburgh and a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survived by his sons, Bruce A. Garlicki and Stephen C. Garlicki; and grandchildren, Lyla Anne Garlicki and Joshua Owen Garlicki. Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Kowger. Visitation Saturday 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. in the H.P. Charles E. "Sonny" Harris, 88, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001. Beloved friend and companion of Gloria Carroll of Penn Hills: devoted father of Doris Tyree of East Liberty, Serena Keith of East LIberty, Charles E. Keith of Penn Hills, Richard D. Keith of Penn Hills and Vincent Keith of Hinesville, Ga.; cherished grandmother of Gloria Keith, Rashee Keith and Dior Keith; also survived by a great-granddaughter, Brea Saunders; a great-grandson; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who loved him dearly. Mr. Harris was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an excellent musician, composer, band leader and entertainer. Helen (Tachovaka) Hertzic, age 82, of Moon Twp. since 1942, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001. Wife of the late Joseph Hertzic Sr. Beloved mother of Nellie Ann Soucek of National Park, N.J., and Joseph F. Hertzic and his wife Dianne of Moon Twp. Sister of Ann DeMeo of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Catherine Medwig of Carnegie. Grandmother of Mark, Frank, Helen, Michele, Sanford and Joe. Great-grandmother of Nicholas, Jonathan, Jason, Alyson, Kyle, Jenna, Amy Lynn and Lauren Amber. Helen was a pastoral assistant for many years at St. Margaret Mary Church in Moon Twp. She started and maintained a special education program in the parish for 45 years. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers Group, St. Vincent DePaul, the parish council and Gilmary School. Helen was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Garrett County, Md., to the late Frank and Nellie (Hrendich) Tachovaka. Visitation Saturday and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in COPELAND'S MOON TOWNSHIP FUNERAL HOME, 981 Brodhead Road. The St. Margaret Mary's Women's Guild and Christian Mothers will say the rosary Sunday at 2 p.m. Mass Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church with the Rev. John Ayoob and the Rev. Martha Kaiser, 82, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Valley Care Masonic Home in Sewickley. SHe was born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 9, 1919, daughter of the late Adolph and Margaret (Beitler) Kaiser. In addition to her parents, Miss Kaiser was preceded in death by a brother David. Mis Kaiser is the sister-in-law of Linda Kaiser and aunt of Lauri and Erich Kaiser. Prior to her retirement, Martha was employed in the investment industry in sales. She was a member of the National Secretaries Association.
