Thelma Jourdain, 72, born May 1, 1927, in West Newton, of Buena Vista, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Borough. She was a daughter of the late Louis Glaser and Helen "Nell" Scot Glaser. Wife of the late Earl "Squirrel" Jourdain. Survived by her children, Carol Wills of McKeesport, Jan LeJeune of South Hills, Jim Jourdain of Penn Hills, and Cheryl Smith of Buena Vista; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister, Carl Glaser of Michigan and Connie Sterner of Ruffsdale. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Co. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the RALPH L. JOHNSON FUNERAL HOME, Buena Vista. Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. August Thalman officiating. Interment West Newton Cemetery.
Betty Ann Kennedy, 77, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Uniontown, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Holy Spirit Hospital. She was born in Brownfield, May 21, 1922, daughter of the late George W. and Beatrice Jolly Lehman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Kennedy; and a brother, George "Bud" Lehman. A member of Central Christian Church, graduate of Georges Township High School, a clerk in Fayette County Courthouse, a member of B.P.W. New Salem, and Menallen Grange, New Salem. She and her husband owned the Republic busline. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Paula Jo) Grant of Mechanicsburg; two grandsons, Robert III and Brian; and a brother, Thomas Lehman of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received in the JAMES D. BARNETT FUNERAL HOME, 196 W. Main St., Uniontown, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of services, with the Rev. Tommy Garrison officiating. Alfred Laber, 93, a resident of North Huntingdon Township for many years, and most recently a resident of St. Anne Home, Greensburg, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in St. Anne Home. He was born March 7, 1906, in Irwin, a son of the late Joseph and Barbara Cipra Laber. Alfred was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Irwin for more than 45 years. Alfred was employed as a draftsman for the Westinghouse Air Brake Co. of Wilmerding, from which he retired in 1971. He worked there for 36 years. Outside this employment, he enjoyed gardening and hunting throughout his life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stehney Laber, to whom he was married for 63 years. He is survived by his only son, the Rev. J. Kenneth Laber, pastor of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Erie, and his wife, Susan, of North East, Pa.; and his grandchildren, Heidi M. Laber of Oakland, Calif., and Christian S. Laber and his wife, Ellen, of Ventura, Calif. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin. Funeral services will be held Monday at a time to be announced. Memorials may be given to the memorial fund of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Main and Fifth streets, Irwin, PA 15642.
James G. Leighty, 74, of Reston, Va., formerly of Scottdale, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 11, 1999, in Reston Columbia Hospital, Reston, Va. Jim was born in East Huntingdon Township, Oct. 7, 1925, a son of the late Frank and Mary Lint Leighty. He married the former Iva Mae Byers on Sept. 12, 1948. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family and was a retired pattern repairman with Duraloy Blaw-Knox Co. of Scottdale, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was formerly employed at U.S. Steel's Irvin Works Division. A veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, Jim served as a Shipfitter 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Reston Bible Church in Virginia and a graduate of East Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1943. Jim is survived by his loving family, his wife of 51 years, Iva Mae Byers Leighty; three children, Tom Leighty and his wife, Colleen, of West River, Md., Ernie Leighty and his wife, Dawn, of Vienna, Va., and Bonnie Shaffer and her husband, Ron, of Fairfax, Va.; seven grandchildren, Corinne, Jared, Justin, Dane, Grant, Michael, and Jami; two sisters, Viola Leighty Brooks of Alexandria, Va., and Janet Leighty Keim and husband, Richard, of Scottdale; and a brother, Donald Leighty and wife, Erma Rose, of Scottdale. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, (724) 887-5300, Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Terry V. Murray officiating. Graveside committal services and interment
will follow in Scottdale Cemetery.
Richard D. Molt, 71, of Level Green and Segal, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in Segal. He was born Sept. 22, 1928, in North Braddock, a son of the late Frederick W. and Erma Ashbaugh Molt. Prior to retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter. He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean conflict, he was a past member of Trafford American Legion Post 331 and VFW, both of Trafford, and the Level Green Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn Molt; and four brothers, John, Fred, Raymond Wilbur and Robert. He is survived by two brothers, Walter L. of Level Green and David E. of Brookville; and a sister Leona Hendickson of Texas. There will be no visitation and services will be private. The JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME, Trafford, is in charge of arrangements.
William J. Moravetz, 80, of Penn Township, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in Jefferson, Ohio. He was born July 21, 1919, in Patton Township, a son of the late John A. and Emma Daschkiewich Moravetz. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Drost Moravetz, in 1999; and a brother, Frank Moravetz. Survived by a son, Jack Moravetz of Jefferson, Ohio; a daughter, Cheryl A. VanBuren of Woodstock, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Sharon and Jessica Moravetz, and Bradley VanBuren. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph W. Kiewra officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.
Dolores Grabiak Nitkiewicz, 67, of Southwest, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Nemeth Grabiak. She was a member of Transfiguration Church and its Holy Rosary Society, the Kosciuszko Ladies Auxiliary of Mt. Pleasant, and a member of the former Hecla Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Julius "Chinky" Nitkiewicz; the following children, Cheryl Yohman and her husband, Terry, of Southwest, David Nitkiewicz and his wife, Lynn, of Mt. Pleasant RD1 (Weltytown), and Linda Polakovsky and her husband, Chris, of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Nicole and Amanda Yohman, and Rebecca and Nicholas Polakovsky; a brother, William J. Grabiak and his wife, Kathryn, of Southwest; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Transfiguration Church with the Rev. Robert M. Washko as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Transfiguration Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 241 Fourth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or the International Multiple Melanoma Foundation. Transfiguration Holy Rosary Society will recite the rosary Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home, and immediately following the Kosciuszko Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service. Mary Margaret Pivik, 100, of Murrysville, on Friday, Nov. 12, 1999. Wife of the late Joseph Pivik. Beloved mother of Mildred McGowan, Gloria Vuletich, Orvin Pivik, Carol Hart, Mary Braun, Joseph Pivik, and the late Elmer Pivik, Carolyn Pivik, Verna Flanders and Chalmer Pivik. DAVID E. RANDOLPH JR. David E. Randolph Jr., 66, of Medina, Ohio, formerly of Greensburg, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Joan Ann Randolph; and a grandchild. He is survived by a daughter, Joan Young; three sons, Marc (Patricia), Scott, and Rex (Janet); his adopted family, Mollie Pfister, Charles Pfister (Terri), James Pfister (Rebecca), and Suzan McCreanor (Jim); and five grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the WAITE & SON FUNERAL HOMES MEDINA CHAPEL, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio, and Monday from noon to 1 p.m., the time of services. Cass Rinkacs, 64, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at her home. She was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late William and Mary McDougall. She was formerly employed as a clerk by Flex Medco RX. Cass was a member of St. Stephens Byzantine Catholic Church, North Huntingdon, and the Ladies Guild, Markvue Manor Women's Club, was a volunteer for Norwin Public Library, and was voted Mother of the Year in the Irwin area in the 1980s. She is survived by her husband, Denis J. Rinkacs; five sons, William J. of Apollo, Denis J. of Pittsburgh, John S. of North Attleborough, Mass., Thomas J. of White Oak, and David E. of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Christine Liner of North Augusta, S.C.; a sister, Patricia McLaughlin of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren, C.J., Wynonna, Sammy, Paul, Jacob, and Maddie. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stephens Church, followed by interment

Anna C. Babick Smail, 82, of Mt. Pleasant RD6, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Jessup, Pa. (Crabtree), a daughter of the late Steve and Elizabeth Onnefrey Babick. She was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Smail, in 1981; an infant son; a granddaughter, Pamela Hoadwonic; a grandson, James Tomich; a sister, Mary Bania; a brother, Steve Babick; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Smail. Surviving are the following children, Anna Marie Tomich and her husband, Charles, of Mt. Pleasant RD1 (Norvelt), Louise Hoadwonic and her husband, Nick, of Ruffsdale RD2, Thomas Smail and his wife, Mary, of Mt. Pleasant RD6, and Sam Smail and his wife, Wanda, of Mt. Pleasant RD6; eight grandchildren, Cynthia Bosnic and her husband, Brian, Tami Tomich, Nick Hoadwonic and his wife, Debbie, Donna Carney and her husband, Ron, Thomas "T.J." Smail, Sam, Josh, and Jack Smail; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Tomich, Louisa and Terry Carney, Billie and B.J. Hoadwonic, and Dante Bosnic; three sisters, Elizabeth Orischak of Southwest, Sophia Leyshock of Dunbar, and Pauline Oplinger of Southwest; and nieces and nephews.
